Leena was in such a state of shock, she found herself at a loss for words. She couldn't help but stare at Alina in awe. It was the legendary goddess herself! This was just too unbelievable to be true. She recalled how she'd known about her through Carlson just the night before. She had mentioned how she wanted to meet Alina someday, but she never thought she'd get to meet her so soon.
Leena admired her a lot. Thus, she felt honored to be in Alina's presence, almost jealous, even.
Leena shook herself out of her trance and stuck out her hand. "It's so nice to meet you, Miss Alina! I didn't expect it was you."
"You didn't expect it was me?" Alina echoed with a wry smile, shaking Leena's outstretched hand. "Did you know me?" Leena could feel herself getting lost in Alina's big, beautiful eyes.
"Not really," she replied, quickly gathering her bearings. "It's just that I've heard a lot of great things about you."
"From whom? Carlson?" Alina asked, taking a sip from her wine. If Leena wasn't mistaken, she could've sworn there was a hint of sadness in Alina's tone.
"Yes," Leena replied cautiously.
"Carlson really does love this place," Leena started to say, staring blankly into space. Snapping back to reality, she looked at Leena seriously. "Do you know why I came here to see you?"
Before Leena could answer, a young man approached them. He was dressed decently, but his shirt collar was a bit tousled up from drinking. "Our boss has his eyes set on you, Miss. Why don't you go meet him?" he said, as though he were ordering Alina. Alina ignored him. Impatiently, he snapped, "Do you have any idea who our boss is?"
Leena glanced at the direction the guy came from and quickly guessed that his boss was the one who was staying in the VIP room. However, before she could say anything, Alina had rolled her eyes and said to the guy, "Me? Go to your boss? Tell him to come over here."
"How dare you!" the man said angrily. "Don't you know who I am?" He let out a string of expletives, so crass that Leena winced. She stood up abruptly and strode over to the man who was harassing Alina, placing herself in between them.
"Go ahead, call your boss over," Alina said calmly while sipping from her glass of wine.
"I know how important Mr. Zhang is in A city, but that doesn't give him, or anyone for that matter, a right to disrespect this lady right here," Leena hissed into the young man's ear.
The young man completely disregarded what she said and continued to force Alina to head over to his boss. Alina didn't budge, though. Finally, the young man went back to report to his boss, Mr. Zhang. This infuriated him, so he headed to where Alina was sitting. However, when he got there, he seemed to be totally smitten by the beauty before him.
Leena shook her head helplessly. To her, Mr. Zhang was just a local rich businessman who acted like a tyrant relying on his distant relative who was also a government official. He didn't know that Alina had a more powerful background. If Carlson was right, Alina was his brother's girlfriend. And who was his brother? The boss of the Empire Group.
"Miss Alina, as I live and breathe," Mr. Zhang said in a sweet voice, bowing deeply towards her. The people around the bar counter, who had all been watching quietly, were all stunned that Mr. Zhang lowered his head for her.
Alina looked at him with a sly smile. "Mr. Zhang, here you are, behaving like you own the world or something," she scolded playfully, though there was a certain viciousness in her eyes.
"Miss Alina, I didn't know it was you," Mr. Zhang said hastily. "What brings you here?"
"Why? Am I not allowed to be here?"
"No, not at all! That's not what I meant!" he said helplessly.
"Didn't you just want me to be your escort?" Alina asked, narrowing her eyes at the man.
Mr. Zhang hurriedly held his hands up. "No, no. I didn't know it was you!"
Alina smiled and picked up her wine glass. Walking towards Mr. Zhang, she asked, "Mr. Zhang, may I propose a toast?"
He nodded in resignation, looking totally defeated. To everyone's dismay, Alina then raised the wine glass above his head and tipped its contents all over him.
Even Leena was taken aback by Alina's bold actions. Mr. Zhang might not be as powerful as the boss of the Empire Group, but that didn't mean he was powerless. Alina was just the Empire Group boss's girlfriend. How could she
act so arrogantly? Instead of snapping at her, Mr. Zhang closed his eyes and endured the humiliation. The people around them watched, stunned at her fearless act. The young man quickly jumped in and pointed at Alina. "Who the hell do you think you are? How dare you do this to our boss?"
Just then, people came flocking inside the hall. A man rushed over to Leena with worry written all over his face. He asked if they should step in, but Leena just shook her head. She figured that the best thing to do right now was to let this act unfold organically, only interfering if necessary.
Alina suddenly burst into crazed laughter. It was obvious she was drunk from all the wine she'd drunk. Suddenly, her phone started to ring. "Where are you?" she spat into the phone. "Aren't you going to come over yet? Or are you waiting till I get bullied before you interfere? Well, I certainly am being bullied here in the Heaven Hotel. Come here right this instant and teach them a lesson!" She squeezed the phone in her hand. "I'm giving you one chance! One!" Then, without waiting for a response, she hung up the phone.
After a while, a group of men approached them. They were from the Empire Group. One of them spoke with authority. "Who among you have been bullying Miss Alina?"
Mr. Zhang's eyes widened in a state of panic. "Spencer, it was just a misunderstanding!"
When Leena turned around to see who was talking, she was shocked by who she saw. "Spencer, w-why are you here?" she stuttered.
Yes, it was Spencer Lu. He was the son of a high-ranking official, and was also good friends with Miguel. Despite the fact that Spencer's status was a little lower than Miguel's, he still had a good family background and he held a high position in A city. Even a man as powerful as Mr. Zhang wouldn't dare to offend him.
Spencer was taken aback by Leena's question. His imposing demeanor suddenly evaporated. "You..." He struggled to find words. "Why are you still at work today?" he asked instead, changing the topic. "I thought you would be at home resting today."
After she started dating Miguel, Leena had developed a good relationship with Spencer.
"Miss Wang asked for a day's leave, so I came to cover for her," Leena explained.
Spencer was even more baffled. "Where is he?" Alina asked discontentedly, interrupting their conversation.
Spencer seemed to want to say something, but when his eyes fell on Leena, he hesitated. "He has something to deal with tonight," he finally said. "He asked me to pick you up instead."
Alina snorted, obviously displeased. Then, she placed a cigarette against her lips, and lit it. "Is he busy? Or is he just afraid? I know what he's really like!" Then, she turned around abruptly and started to leave.
"Take care of these bastards for me!" she ordered them as she left. "Alina!" Spencer called.
"Wait up!" Alina ignored him and kept on walking. "Take care of them," Spencer barked at his men.
"Please, Spencer! It was just a misunderstanding!" Mr. Zhang pleaded. But Spencer didn't listen. Just as he was about to take off after Alina, Leena grabbed him by the arm. "Spencer, don't do it. You know you can't beat up Mr. Zhang here! It'll mar my reputation, as well as the hotel's," she said firmly. "Also, what the hell is wrong with you tonight? Do you even know Miss Alina?"
"Ah, forget it!" Spencer roared in frustration. Muttering to himself, he said, "How did I get so unlucky? How did I end up getting involved in such a ridiculous thing!" "Oh, for goodness' sake!" Just as he was about to order his subordinates to take Mr. Zhang out, Alina came back.
Spencer saw her, and immediately noticed something was unusual about her. "Miss Alina, what are you doing?"
However, Alina just pushed him to the side and headed straight for Leena. Placing her hand gently on her shoulder, she said, "We will meet again." With that, she turned around once more and left.
When Alina had placed her delicate hand on Leena's shoulder, Leena noticed the ring on her ring finger. It was a beautiful platinum ring in the shape of a magnolia flower. It was so exquisite, it was hard to ignore. But Leena's mind quickly shifted from the ring to what Alina said. What did she mean by that?
Unfortunately, Alina had already left. Spencer hurriedly mumbled some incoherent explanation then hurried after Alina, leaving Leena so confused. What was going on here?
