Her eyes followed him to a corner by the window where Carlson made a phone call in a low voice.
Noticing the strange look in her eyes, Mrs. Yang asked, "Who was it? Why your expressions all changed?"
Leena turned around and said, "Nothing." Then she lowered her head to eat and picked up some food for Yanni.
After answering the phone, Carlson came back with a serious look on his face.
"What's wrong?" asked Leena.
However, Carlson suddenly smiled and said, "Nothing. It's New Year's Eve. Let's eat first. The hot pot soup tastes really good tonight!"
Seeing that he wanted to change the topic, Leena didn't ask more. But she knew him well after getting along with him for so long. There must be something on his mind.
After the New Year's Eve dinner, Leena and Carlson took Yanni to the small square downstairs to set off fireworks. Mrs. Yang also went downstairs for a while, but it was too cold, so she went home to watch the Spring Festival Gala.
Leena played with Yanni for a while before other children in the community came over. Yanni had playmates, so Leena just left. She stood far away and watched with Carlson.
Carlson lit a cigarette and smoked in a daze. The smoke ring he blew out soon melted in the cold night sky, and formed a haze togeth
uding Jack and Dylan!"
Leena frowned and said nothing.
Carlson drove at a fast speed all the way to the seaside mansion of Mr. Martin, which was near the coast where Leena had fallen into the water in order to save him.
When the car passed the street, Leena saw that the street was overcrowded with people. Although it was cold, there were still many people outside. The shopping mall was brightly lit, and the neon lights were shining. Many windows were decorated with red color, which was in line with the theme of new year. All these made snowy night really beautiful.
This was her new year. As long as she was with him, it was destined that her life would be unusual. Other people were accompanying their families on the New Year's Eve, but they were hurrying back for Mr. Martin's funeral. Even if the person who died was his enemy, he could still visit him for interests.
When they arrived at Mr. Martin's house, there were already a lot of people gathering there. When she walked in, she thought that aren't these people celebrate the New Year's Eve? Did they all come to Mr. Martin's house to stay all night on the New Year's Eve? In the mansion, a large group of people were wearing a long face and weeping with their heads down, but more were snickering.
