2.5 Months Later:
Mo Qingchen waited for Qian Meng at the entrance of the restaurant. She had an important meeting outside her office, so she had barred him from coming. Instead, the worried husband had made sure Li Min drove Qian Meng around and that she had her food and water on time.
He looked at his watch once again and then at the road by which she was going to arrive. He saw her car a few minutes later and sighed in relief. At least, she was finishing all her meetings on time. He could trust Li Min to force Qian Meng to follow her schedule.
The car stopped in front of him and he took an urgent step forward to open the door for her. He placed his hand over her head and carefully helped her out.
"How are you feeling?" was the first thing he asked when he saw her face. She looked tired.
She gave him a shallow smile and held his hand tightly.
"Do I look that bad?" she asked.
He shook his head. "You just look tired. I am sure you will feel better once we have you fed," he said gently and thumbed the stray strand of hair away from her face.
She scoffed. "At this rate, I am going to be a fat little pig. Are you sure it's the baby making me gain weight or the food you are stuffing me with, Mr. Mo?"
He chuckled softly, even though he didn't find the situation hilarious. Her expression had gotten worse since yesterday. She was having headaches and she barely had any appetite. He was trying to get her fed, but she could barely keep anything down.
He had even called the doctor and he had said it was simply morning sickness and nothing to worry about.
The over-worried and doting husband accepted this diagnosis with a grain of salt and kept trying to get her whatever food she wanted to eat or craved.
"Has everyone arrived yet?" Qian Meng asked as they entered the lavish restaurant.
"My parents are here. Xiao Chen and his family is here too. Yize is yet to arrive," he informed her. "My dad is his usual robot self. He seems to be pressuring Xiao Chen into getting married with his girlfriend. Ignore the conversation and don't get stressed no matter what he says," Qingchen told her in a whisper as they made their way to their private room.
The long winding staircase made her dizzy just looking at it.
She sucked in a deep breath and slowly walked up the stairs. Mo Qingchen could sense that she was not feeling well.
"Are you okay?" She nodded. But the feeling just got worse. "Let's just go home if you don't feel well. Let's cancel. I'll explain to everyone." He tugged on her hand and felt her press his hand tighter.
"I'll just sit down and it will be fine," she assured.
Once she reached the top of the stairs, she felt a lot better. She took a breath of relief and walked forward. She slowly let go of his hand and walked forward. Opposite to the row of private rooms, a small birthday party took place.
It was a group of rowdy youngsters who loudly sang the birthday song. Qian Meng's spirit soared and she looked at the group with wonder as she walked forward.
In a split second, a loud bang enveloped her senses and from the corner of her eyes, she saw flames erupt. The combined forced ripped her out of her senses so violently that she lost her balance. Her heels twisted too fast to recover. Her body fell sideward, away from Mo Qingchen. She didn't make a sound. It all happened within a flash of light.
Everything went black before she reached the bottom.
Mo Qingchen almost missed catching her. His eyes widened as he lunged to stop the fall. He could only awkwardly stop her from hitting the ground. Once he had a hold of her, he could only slowly put her on the ground.
When Qian Meng slowly regained consciousness, she rose to the sound of chaos around her. Confused, she took a few moments to remember where she was.
"Absolutely not!" Mo Qingchen roared ferociously. The voice opened her eyes. Her surroundings were blurry at first, but she soon realized that she was in Mo Qingchen's arms. Mo Yize stood in front of them, looking more livid than she had ever seen her friend be.
Her gaze wandered beside Yize. Why would Qingchen's demon of a father be standing there? She closed her eyes and reopened them.
He was still there. She slowly remembered that she was on her way to meet them.
"Sir, please. Let her help her up," someone said from the side. The voice was foreign, but Qian Meng was sure it was none of the staff.
"Bro, it's okay. You don't need to let any stranger touch her. Let me and dad help her up. We need a doctor to look her over, okay?" Mo Yize urged in a stern voice. She knew that tone. Yize was seconds away from throwing a fit and having her way at any cost.
"Mo Qingchen, let me help her up," his father's calm voice replied.
"No!" he roared more viciously. "She needs a doctor, not a noxious parasite like you." He pulled her in closer, protectively. His murderous tone made everyone around them paise.
"We just need to move her out of the hallway. We will wait in the private room until the medics arrive, okay?" Yize tried to reason.
"Qingchen," she croaked. His eyes shot down to hers. "It's okay. He won't hurt me."
The turmoil in his eyes struck her like a hammer. He looked scared. Not just concern covered his face but absolute terror.
He held her gaze for several moments before opening his mouth to reply. Just as the words were about to come out, he was interrupted by the paramedics briskly sweeping into the room, whom, she might add, Qingchen was also sceptical of.
