1 The Anomaly Encounters a Falling Star

The cultivation society had reached its peak. Ordinary people were a dream of the past. In today's world, humanity had completely evolved, and the entire population managed to reach level one within a few years of birth. At least that is what society believed anyways. There existed a single anomaly in this world, one person who remained ordinary despite humanity's advancement.

At this moment, a young man was walking down the sidewalk, passing by street vendors with his nose stuck in a book. He ignored the vendors hawking their goods, as much as he was interested in the items such as flying swords, mystical treasures, and enhancement pills, the truth is they were all useless for him for this young man was that very anomaly. This young man's name was Yu Chang, and his world is about to come crashing down on top of him, quite literally.

On the far side of City A, a young female cultivator around the age of 27 was sprinting through the sky. Her dao name was Falling Star. She was given her dao name for her tendency to "fall" from the sky upon reaching her destination. It was in such a way that the Anomaly was fated to encounter a Falling Star.

Yu Chang was still casually strolling through the city when a shout came from above.

"Little brother daoist, please step to the side."

As Yu Chang wasn't a cultivator, he continued on, ignoring the shout. After all, that person couldn't be talking to him since he wasn't a cultivator. Unfortunately for him, Falling Star was unaware of his situation, and the "little brother daoist" she had called out to was precisely Yu Chang. With a crash, the encounter came to pass.

Sitting on top of Yu Chang, Falling Star sighed. "What's with you little brother? I tried to warn you, but you just ignored me…" Falling Star's inquiry was interrupted by the fountain of blood spurting out of Yu Chang's mouth. "Oh, that's not good…"

Still straddling Yu Chang, Falling Star accessed her mystical storage system and pulled out several healing drugs of varying strength.

"I don't know which one of these to use. Hey, little brother wake up, tell me how strong you are so I know which medicine to give you." Yu Chang gave no response as he continued bleeding out. "Well, I can rule out level seven or higher, since he would not have been hurt so bad if he were that strong. I'll just give him a combination of all the medicines for levels one through six, one of them should work…" With her choice made, she stuffed the opening of several medicine bottles into Yu Chang's mouth one after the other, pouring the medicine in.

Falling Star observed Yu Chang carefully. She noticed the little brother's bleeding had stopped, and shallow, ragged breaths escaped from his lips, but he did not wake up. Falling Star's perfect brows furrowed while she was deep in thought. She was trying to decide what to do next. Finally standing, she stomped on the sidewalk leaving a meter-deep hole in frustration. "Such a perfect morning ruined… Come on little brother; I'll carry you to the hospital." Falling Star bent over and scooped up Yu Chang, carrying him in the legendary "princess carry" style and took off again.

Five hours later in the hospital waiting room, a female doctor abruptly entered.

"Senior Star, you're little Yu's senior sister?" the doctor asked skeptically.

Falling Star tilted her head thinking for a moment then nodded.

"Then you know about his peculiar situation then?"

"His situation?" Falling Star asked.

The doctor frowned. "Do you not know that little Yu is probably the only known ordinary human above the age of five in the entire world? I checked many times using multiple procedures; there is not a single trace of spiritual energy within his body."

"Oh that," Falling Star responded casually. However, on the inside she was astonished. "Is there anything wrong with him other than that?"

"I wouldn't necessarily say it's a problem, but your actions have had an unusual effect on little Yu. The combination of medicine introduced into little Yu's body reacted weirdly. Currently, these medicines are constantly healing, breaking down, and strengthening his body in a never-ending loop. There is no telling when it will stop, how strong his body will be, or when he will awaken for that matter. Though now even if he wanted to be a cultivator, it would be ten times harder then it was all ready for him to breakthrough."

"I don't understand, why would it be harder?"

"Think of it like using a teaspoon to fill a swimming pool. In the beginning, young cultivation hopefuls can only draw in a minuscule amount of spirit energy. However, due to the changes in little Yu's body, it will take an enormous amount of spiritual energy to break into level one. This issue will get exponentially worse as he progresses if he can even manage to break into level one. You saved his life, but you may have doomed him to remain ordinary for the rest of his life."

Falling Star's shoulders slumped as she heard the doctor's report. "Is it possible to conceal the files not only from little Yu but also from everyone who doesn't already know? If you can do so, I would be willing to sponsor this hospital from this point forward."

"Very well, I will see to it personally. From this point forward, if little Yu has any medical issues make sure to send him directly to me, Bái Xuě. There is one more thing you should know. If little Yu does succeed in overcoming these obstacles, he will be immensely powerful."

"I see, is it alright if I wait in his room with him until he wakes up?"

"Sure, sure. If you need anything, don't hesitate to come find me."
