Sun Fuyu spent the entire afternoon secretly teaching Wen-ge’s sword some defensive techniques. He spent a lot of time just convincing the sword, and finally coaxed it by saying, it’s not technically fighting, it’s defending! If you are unable to defend Wen-ge, what if someone else takes you away?
When Wen Zhihao returned from his trip collecting rocks and flowers, he saw that little tense frown on Sun Fuyu’s face as he communicated silently with the sword. So Wen Zhihao sat down quietly next to Sun Fuyu and did some actual work writing the nice talismans for his quota. At this rate, he’ll finish them ahead of the deadline.
When dinner time arrived, Sun Fuyu still wasn’t happy with the progress. “Wen-ge, I’m not finished yet…”
“Hm, keep the sword then,” Wen Zhihao said easily. Now that he could use the cart to fly, he didn’t really need the sword anymore, though the sword was faster and shiny and more cultivator-aesthetic.
Sun Fuyu’s brows pinched together. “No, I’ll definitely give it back whenever I need to leave! Wen-ge, you must keep the sword with you!”
“I’ll listen to you.”
Sun Fuyu pouted. “You’re simply saying that you coax me.”
Wen Zhihao’s eyes curved as he smiled. He reached out and patted Sun Fuyu’s head. “But I want to make you happy.”
Sun Fuyu’s eyes softened. “Mm,” he hummed quietly.
“But for now, why not take a break? Aunty Liu packed some food for us.”
Sun Fuyu nodded. He set Wen Zhihao’s sword down alongside his own sword so that they could get to know each other.
Wen Zhihao took out the food. Due to their outdoor-away-from-the-sect location, one of the dishes contained the very fragrant durian.
Sun Fuyu was about to pick up his bowl and chopsticks but then paused. He withdrew his hands, placing them on his lap. “Wen-ge…”
Wen Zhihao stopped. “Not hungry?”
“Did you really offer to hand feed Zhou Sheng?”
Wen Zhihao blinked. He tilted his head thoughtfully. “Did I?”
Sun Fuyu nodded somberly. “En, Zhou Sheng told me.” Sun Fuyu’s bottom lip stuck out slightly. “Why did you offer? Zhou Sheng is our senior! Did you really hand feed him, Wen-ge?” He looked at Wen Zhihao, his eyes slightly watery and his brows pinched upwards in a puppy-dog expression.
Wen Zhihao uncontrollably reached out and pinched Xiao Yu’s cheek.
“Wen-ge!” Sun Fuyu grumbled, his pout deepening coquettishly.
Wen Zhihao suppressed a smile. He stopped pinching Xiao Yu’s cheek and tapped him on the nose instead. “I’ve never hand-fed Zhou Sheng,” Wen Zhihao assured him. “I’m not sure I’ve handfed anyone. The children can all feed themselves. Alright, sit closer to me, Xiao Yu…”
Sun Fuyu’s eyes brightened and his pout disappeared. He shuffled closer to Wen-ge until their thighs pressed against each other. He placed his hands in his lap and looked expectantly at Wen Zhihao.
Wen Zhihao smiled, while internally, his heart strongly urged him to pinch Xiao Yu’s cheeks again. “Okay, open wide, Xiao Yu.”
Sun Fuyu obediently opened his mouth.
With a spoon and chopsticks, Wen Zhihao carefully fed Sun Fuyu one soup dumpling. “Good?”
“Mmm!” The dumpling soup tasted sweeter than usual in Sun Fuyu’s mouth. This made Sun Fuyu Wen-ge’s first!
Sun Fuyu rubbed his shoulder against Wen-ge. After swallowing, he said, “Now for Wen-ge.” With an exquisitely controlled qi blade, he sliced one of the scallion pancakes into single-bite-sized pieces. He used his own chopsticks to pick one up, dipped it in sauce, and held it out to Wen Zhihao.
Wen Zhihao leaned forward slightly and accepted the flaky and aromatic morsel of food. Then it was his turn to feed Sun Fuyu.
Sun Fuyu exuded happiness. When Wen-ge fed him a spoonful of mango-tapioca soup, he forgave Zhou Sheng for interrupting them before.
After they finished eating, Sun Fuyu leaned against Wen-ge and together, they watched the sunset over the field of chrysanthemum flowers. Warm and content, Sun Fuyu forgot about Lin Yijun’s earlier interruption. Hmm, now he needed to convince Wen-ge to make some attack and defensive talismans...
Over the next few days, Sun Fuyu would teach Wen Zhihao’s sword in the evenings after he returned from his missions or cultivation practice. Meanwhile, Wen Zhihao started to read up on offensive and defensive talismans because Sun Fuyu had asked him if he knew how to make some new kinds—and he didn’t want to disappoint.
Five days later, Lin Yijun and Zhou Sheng returned to the Golden Sun Sect.
“Since I kidnapped you outside the beasts’ enclosures, I should return you there,” Zhou Sheng joked.
It was early in the morning, and Wen Zhihao wasn’t at the enclosures. The two of them nodded politely when a junior cultivator, Wang Li Wei, hurried out of the small beasts’ enclosure with a red face.
“Here you are,” Zhou Sheng said.
Lin Yijun frowned slightly. “You’re leaving right away? You like these beasts, don’t you?”
“I shouldn’t enter—”
“—Just go in if you wish, at your own peril,” a passing-by Huang Jialing threw out.
“Then the big ones,” Zhou Sheng said.
Lin Yijun let Zhou Sheng enter first, while he quickly swallowed an anti-cat-allergy pill.
Zhou Sheng wasn’t stupid—he noticed Lin Yijun swallowing an unknown pill. But that was Lin Yijun’s business. Zhou Sheng brightened when one of the large furry beasts padded its way towards him. The beast circled him and rubbed against him.
- Human smells a bit like sleepy human~
- Stupid cat, demonic cultivator human has a sleepy stone!
Seeing Zhou Sheng pet the fluffy demonic cat, Lin Yijun bolstered his courage and walked next to Zhou Sheng. Lin Yijun reached out…
The cat dodged and rubbed against Zhou Sheng on the other side.
Lin Yijun’s hand froze mid-air.
Zhou Sheng smirked. “Likes me more.”
Lin Yijun pulled his hand back. “You are more familiar,” he said stiffly. Across the enclosure, he spotted the large white cat that he had petted previously. It was lying down, stretched out in the sunlight. With an upright and serious posture, Lin Yijun approached it.
But as Lin Yijun crouched down, the cat rolled away from him. The rejection stabbed Lin Yijun in the chest. He stiffly stood up once more.
Zhou Sheng sniggered. Seeing Lin Yijun pompously expression of, I meant for that to happen, Zhou Sheng couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh, Lin Yijun...They don’t...they don’t…” Aiya, look, even the other beasts were moving out of Lin Yjiun’s path!
Lin Yijun scowled at the ground. This was the first time he had ever heard Zhou Sheng laugh, but did it have to be at his own expense? He wanted to pet a demonic cat too! Last time, the white one had let him, but why not now? The difference was...Wen Zhihao?
Outside the enclosure, Huang Jialing could hear and understand the cats’ talk.
- Grrrr! This human didn’t like us before! He sneezed so much!! Snot all over my fur, urrggh!
- His face went all red too! He was very angry!!
- Didn’t sleepy human say it was a cat allergy?
- Who made him allergic, hm? Who would be allergic to us? Are humans allergic to other humans? NO! He clearly dislikes us and made an excuse!
- Cat allergy? Sounds fake!
- I saw him hugging that dog. He doesn’t need us anyway.
- He’s coming over here. Get out of my way, you stupid cat!
Huang Jialing: “...” She suddenly felt that Lin Yijun was extremely pitiful.
