When Eve got inside the car, a surge of panic squeezed her chest. The reception was far from over. There were still things to do such as the bouquet toss, the games, the garter—which she didn't mind missing—and more. Although most of the guests might not mind an early, handful of people would and they had the ability to make her guilty about it.
But, when the building faded away and they drove out of Maize City, those fears melted away.
Eve eventually figured out that it must be because she had left her phone so no one was calling or messaging her about the party. At least, she didn't receive any of them.
She peeled her eyes off the window and peeked at her husband.
Unlike her, Ambryan seemed calm. It was hard to tell if the serene expression was genuine or for show. His gaze stayed on the road but his relaxed posture implied how familiar he was about these roads. It had to be somewhere he had gone before.
A secret hiding place, perhaps?
"Will you tell me where we're going now?" Eve asked. They already passed the outskirts of the city. Wasn't this good enough for him to reveal their destination? "If we're really about to go on our honeymoon, can we please go someplace where I can change first?"
Ambryan smirked without looking in her direction. "Sure."
He didn't say anything more than that. Eve crossed her arms over chest and exhaled sharply. He hadn't denied what she said so it must be true. Whatever. If anyone tried to scold her, she'd point the blame towards him.
She waited for him to fulfill her request.
What she received was far better than her expectations.
A few kilometers from Maize City was a large gate. Neither of them spoke nor did anyone get out of the car. Eve searched for clues to their location. Then, the gates parted open for them.
They closed again once they managed to cross.
Empty lots surrounded them from both sides. Every now and then, either a house or a construction site popped up. Eve guessed they had entered a developing subdivision. It was far out from the city so the wide space made sense.
But why were they here?
The vehicle reached a small hill where they found another gate. Ambryan reached into his inner breast pocket and fished out a small remote control. He pressed a button, aiming the device through the windshield. The lock sounded as the gates opened for the car to pass through.
Eve sat up straighter, one hand on the door and the other on the dashboard. She ducked her head to see further into the horizon. A modern house slowly emerged in her line of sight. She counted two floors apart from the small shed on the rooftop.
Despite its size, it had a minimalistic design. Neutral colors painted the exterior walls.
A garage had been built as part of the house. Ambryan headed for it straight away, turning off the engine once he parked the car. He climbed out of his seat and helped Eve. Her brown eyes darted in different directions as she took it all in.
"Is this what I think it is?" She breathed out.
Ambryan grabbed her hand and led her to the servant's entrance. "What do you think?"
He switched the light on as soon as she stepped foot inside. The door had led them to a state of the art kitchen. It had to be the size of his bedroom up at the penthouse. Her heels echoed around the empty space. She began to explore the place, not minding if Ambyran let go.
But he didn't.
Instead, he let her lead him around the house.
"This is your house, isn't it?" Eve questioned.
She was 99% sure it was his residential home. It had his personality written all over it. For instance, the black furniture and marble countertops—both things that made cleaning easier. There also wasn't a carpet in sight nor were there photo frames and trinkets on the walls.
Ambryan sighed disappointedly. He stepped closer and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. He propped his chin on the top of her head. "And here I thought you're smarter than that."
"Please don't tell me we broke into someone's house—"
"It's our house, Eve. OUR house."
"..." Eve pressed her lips together and gulped. Her hand reached for his wrist. They stood in front of the living room with their only light source coming from the kitchen. "You know that's what I meant."
"Mm," Ambryan pressed his lips together. He kissed her hair and gradually moved down the side of her head, biting her ear. "But you need to start getting used to it. We'll be living here when we come back. It's a little far but it has its perks."
He forced her to face him. Her brown eyes trembled as she looked up into his deep violet ones. He cupped her cheek and ensnared her waist. His husky breath brushed her face. "For instance, there isn't anyone around to hear us. Not unless we scream loudly enough."
Eve hadn't realized she fell into a daze until his lips descended to capture hers.
She gasped and Ambryan seized the chance to deepen the kiss. He guided her backwards until her legs hit the edge of the sofa. Nowhere else to run, Ambryan pulled her hips closer. Heat bundled inside his lower abdomen.
Then, his lips explored lower, tracing the neckline of her dress. He also moved his hands to the sides of her chest. He hooked his thumbs along the edges of the neckline, gently peeling the fabric off her fair skin.
Eve shivered as cold air caressed her exposed chest.
Her head hung backwards at once when Ambryan began fondling her there. He lifted her up so she could sit on the amrest. Little did she know, it wasn't for her comfort. Ambryan had used it to move closer until he was between her thighs.
His hands on her back, he gained better access to two beautiful mounds.
Whatever the evening had in store for him was interrupted by loud ringing. The telephone on the small side table beside him relentlessly irritated his ears. Ambryan chose to ignore it and pinched his wife.
Eve hitched her breath and grabbed onto his shoulders. Her eyes remained closed. The more Ambryan pressed his face onto her chest, the more she leaned back until her feet hovered above the floor. Her grip on his shoulders tightened or she'd fall onto the cushions.
The ringing soon faded into a beep.
"AMBRYAN HATHAWAY, YOU BETTER GET BACK TO YOUR WEDDING PARTY THIS INSTANT!" Avery yelled over the phone. "Don't even pretend you can't hear me! I know you snuck into your residential home! That bride better be in clothes or my security team will have quite a sight to beheld—"
Without looking, Ambryan slammed his hand on the telephone. His face was still buried on his wife's chest. "Who said telephone lines are useful? They're clearly bothersome."
A disheveled Eve chuckled. Her breaths came in and out in pants. The areas he touched still tingled from the sensation. "Why do you even have it if you're hardly here?"
"In case of emergency."
She ran her hands through his hair. "You want me to unplug it?"
"Then, mother will surely know we're here." Ambryan clenched his hands into fists, groaning. It was quite the sight for Eve. It was like comforting a toddler.
"So we escape to our honeymoon now?" She suggested.
Ambryan propped his chin on the midline of her chest. Eve raised her eyebrows from the surprised expression he wore. "Dearest wife, I didn't know you were so eager to consummate our marriage."
Eve smirked right at his face. Their noses nearly touched. She whispered on his lips in response. "Hadn't we already done that last night?"
"Really? I can't remember. I must be getting old. I think I need help with such fond memories."
He felt her laugh under him. "Quite strong for someone old, dear hubby."
"I'm sure that's from pure desire."
Eve grinned from ear to ear. They stayed like that for a moment, their foreheads touching. Her brown eyes hooded until she could spot his lips. They were much more tempting in the dark. Was it because they were harder to see? So she needed reassurance that they were there?
As soon as she thought about it, Eve stopped herself from digging further.
It sounded quite unhealthy...
… but when Ambryan closed the gap for a kiss, she had forgotten all about it.
Headlights flashed through the front windows. Ambryan grumbled profanities and helped his wife fix her dress. His mother really was unpredictable. He couldn't guess which moments she'd be on his side and which moments she'd be against it.
This was his wedding day. Why couldn't he have what he wanted? He had done everything to please everyone for this special day. All he wanted was alone time with his wife. Since the ceremony was over, couldn't they let him have her to himself for the rest of the night, at least?
Sensing Ambryan was lost in his thoughts, Eve touched him where he'd reacted from the most.
He jumped, startled by her boldness. Eve wrapped her arms around her stomach. She bent over laughing from his reaction. His violet eyes drilled into the back of her head but she didn't care. It was tiny suffering compared to what he would face for the next few hours.
"Is it that funny?" Ambryan muttered.
Eve wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. Knocks came from every entrance the house contained. She gazed downwards to assess his situation. Her hand clamped over her mouth. She swallowed down her giggles but her shoulders betrayed her.
"Do you want to use my veil? I'm sure it will help conceal that from everyone."
