The police officer continued to roar at me. I looked at him without saying a word.
His smile gradually turned sinister. "Don't think we can't do anything to you because you're young. Let me tell you, even if the Emperor of Heaven comes today, you are not leaving this place until you admit to your crimes! Stop wasting everyone's time. Hurry up and tell me. You were at the nightclub because you were prostituting yourself, weren't you?"
I stared at him with widened eyes. Where does that even come from? Did you even do any investigation? Pity that I've already decided not to speak or I'd get into a debate with this incredulous man.
The man glanced at the time and his brows furrowed deeper. On the other hand, I became more at ease and confident.
When he slammed on the table again, the door opened from outside. Another officer came in. The man stood up to salute the new arrival, "Cap, Captain Nie!"
Captain Nie's eyes fell on me and I stared back at him fearlessly.
"Captain Nie, we arrested this girl at the nightclub. Someone reported that there was activities of prostitution at the nightclub. We went to the scene and caught all the suspicious people but this girl is the most suspicious. Our tech people can't even enter her laptop. There must be something illegal..."
"You got the wrong person, let her go." Captain Nie interrupted his chatter. The man's words were stuck in his throat. "Did you not hear me? Let her go!" Captain Nie repeated with impatience.
"But..." The man still wanted to argue.
Captain Nie said, "The girl's lawyer is already waiting outside the door. Do you want to talk to her lawyer? He's ready to serve you a lawyer's letter!"
"Wait, they want to sue me? But why?" The man's face darkened. "On what basis? I was only acting to the law!"
I commented, "Does your face not hurt lying like that?"
"Shut up!" He charged over and swung his fist at me. I didn't even move. His fist stopped before my nose. I challenged. "Why did you stop? Looks like you do know police brutality is unlawful."
"You..." He hissed but eventually, he pulled his fist back. He had good self-control. This meant that he was an experienced dirty cop and knew how to toe the line.
I scoffed.
"Write the report and let her go!" Captain Nie waved his hands. His voice was cold.
I stood up and shook my handcuffs at the dirty cop. I smiled proudly at him. I was trying my best to anger him. Unfortunately, he was only a paper tiger. He didn't have the courage to do anything. With the order from Captain Nie, he had no choice but to let me go.
I rubbed my sore wrists and smiled at him. "Officer, I'll be leaving then. See you later!"
I walked out the door and chanced upon Captain Nie who was standing there. I bowed to him. "Thank you."
He sighed under his breath. He held the door open for me and whispered in my ear. "Miss Nan, can I ask for a favor?"
I raised my brow as I walked out.
Captain Nie closed the door behind me and whispered, "Miss Mai is not willing to leave."
I chuckled. The princess is really not to be trifled with.
Captain Nie was about the same height as Jing Tian. His facial features were hard and handsome, and he looked cold and stern due to his occupation. However, he had an air of righteousness.
He pursed his lips and sighed. "For Jing Tian's sake, please help me."
I was shocked. "You know Jing Tian?"
He nodded. "We were classmates in primary school."
I asked, "Do you two have any bad history?"
He looked at me in confusion. "Of course not. He was the one who called to come back to the station in the middle of the night."
I smiled. "Alright. For Jing Tian, I will help you this time."
Captain Nie sighed in relief. "I don't know who did this to you but don't worry, I will look into it and return you this favor."
I smiled. "No need, you owe Jing Tian the favor, not me. I will settle my problem myself."
Captain Nie sighed. "That is what I was trying to avoid. Jing Tian's favor is extremely hard to return. But what can I do when I have a bunch of idiots as my officers?"
I chuckled.. Now I was certain this man was Jing Tian's real friend.
