Chapter 260 - Stupidity

"Mrs. Mai told me to return Jing Tian to Gu Yan. But I need to know, when has Jing Tian ever been Gu Yan's for me to return him to her? Even if she is your new goddaughter, you shouldn't side with her so blindly, right?" I looked at her mockingly.

Mrs. Mai's gaze sharpened. "If not for you, Gu Yan would have married Jing Tian already. The Gu and Jing Family already had plans to build an alliance through marriage. You ruined it, so am I wrong to demand you return Jing Tian to Gu Yan? He is not yours to begin with, and you stole him from another by force. Now, you have the face to talk such nonsense with me? What an uncultured swine."

I looked at her calmly. Honestly, she was not as fun to be around as Mai Qi but I had to remind myself that she was Mai Qi's mother.

"First of all, they would have gotten married if I hadn't appeared? Madam, you've looked into my background. I have always been around. I didn't appear out of anywhere so their failed arranged marriage had nothing to do with me.

"Secondly, so what if the Gu Family and the Jing Family had a plan to achieve union through marriage, they can still carry on with it. I am not stopping them. 

"Lastly, I stole Jing Tian? Do you know who Jing Tian is? He is Master Qi of the Jing Family. How do you expect me to steal him? Do you think I kidnapped him and locked him up at home? Madam, you overestimate me." I looked at her with a smile.

"You! Don't you dare to play word games with me. I have already done my research. Gu Yan and Jing Tian are childhood friends. When Jing Tian was overseas, Gu Yan had been waiting for him to return. But before she could do anything, you already took her place! For the sake of Jing Tian, he abandoned your fiance. He was your fiance's uncle! How shameless can you be?" Mrs. Mai was so angry her face was red.

I laughed. "Madam, you are more naive than I thought. You're led by your nose but you don't even know it. Regardless I am not obligated to clarify things for you. If you wish to align yourself with that group of people, suit yourself. However, Mai Qi is my good friend, I will not leave her no matter what. Jing Tian is my future husband, he is the man I will love for the rest of my life. There is nothing that will change that."

This foolish woman, no wonder Mai Qi's father had to meet me in private to talk about his daughter. Mai Qi's mother would only sell her daughter out without even realizing it. I felt sad for Mai Qi.

I stood up to leave. Mrs. Mai's voice turned shrill. "You're not afraid of losing everything that you have today?"

I sat back down. "Fine, Madam, what is it that you want me to lose? I feel like if we don't talk this out today, you'll never let me go."

She looked at me fiercely. "What about your little uncle's life?"

The smile on my face faded.

Her smile became more ghastly, "Tong Le is currently in Country M, looking after the young lady who is abandoned from the Jing Family. His Dragon's Gate is merely a motley crew of gangsters. I can take his life any time I wish. And that Jing Ni, I hear she is your friend too. Their two lives are not enough to bend you to my will?"

How can a woman be so naive and crazy?

I smiled but the smile didn't reach my eyes. I really didn't want to waste my anger on such a foolish woman.

"Madam, did you use your own people to investigate me and my uncle, or someone just fed you the news?"

She didn't speak but her eyes hesitated.

"Dragon's Gate is just a motley crew of gangsters? That is the funniest joke I've heard in a long time.. Madam, I'd advise you to get smarter. Don't believe everything people say, or you might die without knowing why! It doesn't matter if you die but it'll be a tragedy if you drag down Mai Qi and her father down with you!"
