It didn't matter as long as she was healthy! I hoped that she would get better.
We went to back Jing Tian's home together.
Auntie Lan was shocked and then surprised. I believed the surprise was because of Qu Hao. She probably didn't expect there would be a third party between my little uncle and Jing Tian.
By the time we returned, Auntie Lan had already formed a tight friendship with Auntie Bai Rui. Auntie Lan was very happy because she had never been to such a lively occasion before.
When Jing Tian told his mother that Jing Ni and Auntie Bai Rui were going to stay with them, Auntie Lan was so excited. She assumed this was because her son cared about her and wanted her to have company. Auntie Bai Rui was already considering moving over before we brought it up because she found a kindred spirit in Auntie Lan. They were both lonely people.
After they had formed their own groups and stopped paying attention to us, Jing Ni and I sneaked away so we could chat in private.
The swing in the back garden was built for us last year. Sister Kong had people install them so that we could relax during the exam period.
Jing Ni and I took the swing.
"Ni Ni, there's something I need to tell you," I told her carefully.
Jing Ni didn't say anything. She held onto the swing and looked at me. She uttered, "Nanxing, I belong to Sky City. I won't close any of you out again."
I raised my chin and ordered. "Of course! If you dare to do it again, I will beat you! I'm telling you, once you join Sky City, there's no leaving. Even if you die, you'll be Sky City's ghost! When we all die, we'll start another Sky City in hell to haunt the living!"
I laughed at my own joke. Jing Ni laughed with me. There was a hint of sadness in her smile.
I stopped smiling and looked at her. "But I have to tell you something else. After your incident, my little uncle beat Shi Feng so badly that he had to be hospitalized. When the Shi Family came looking for reparation, my little uncle announced to the public that you're his fiance."
Jing Ni looked at me nodded slowly. "I know."
I looked at her. "But I heard you call Tong Le little uncle earlier. Don't you want to be my little aunt?" I was very careful.
The corner of Jing Ni's lips twitched. There was the ghost of a smile.
"Nanxing, I won't be your little aunt."
"Why? Is Tong Le not good enough?" I asked. I was conflicted. I couldn't tell if I wanted her to take the offer or not. But my instinct told me that I wanted her to follow her heart. I didn't want her to marry herself off to my little uncle out of gratitude. It would be unfair to both of them.
However, Jing Ni had a soft personality. If she married Tong Le, at least my little uncle would protect her for life. He would not let her end up in the same ending as she did in her previous life.
Jing Ni shook her head gently. "No, Nanxing. Mr. Tong Le is very good. It's just that I can only see him as my little uncle and not a husband. He saved my life. I can't marry him but I will give up my life for him."
I breathed out the breath I didn't know I was holding.
It was a sigh of relief for Jing Ni and my little uncle.
Honestly, while I was not against them being together, I didn't want either of them to compromise. Life was short. A few decades were gone in a snap of a finger. At the same time, life was long. Husband and wife had to spend days together. If they had to compromise every time, days could feel like years.
So I was thankful they didn't force themselves to compromise and mistreat themselves.
