Chapter 20:Late

It was around lunch when Su Feng's phone buzzed loudly, startling him awake. He rubbed his eyes, annoyed by the sound. No one had his number except for family members.

"Hello," he answered, his voice hoarse.

"Su Feng?" asked a familiar voice. He checked the name on the screen, where 'Song Mei' appeared.

He sat up and remembered that he and Song Ren stayed up last night discussing formulas, exchanging ideas, and drinking a bit of wine. He remembered going to his private room in the building with her, where they wanted to talk comfortably.

He glanced over, finding Song Ren on the other end of the bed with her long hair cascading over her shoulders, sleeping peacefully sound.

The space between them was distant, filled with documents and papers all over the sheets. It looked like a night of studying before final exams. Except they were both discussing theories.

"Uh...Su Feng?" questioned Qian Meigui.

"Ah, sorry, Song Mei, what's wrong?" he replied.

"Have you seen Song Ren anywhere?" she shyly asked.

While holding the phone to one ear, Su Feng gazed over at Song Ren, who held documents in her hand in her sleep. Su Feng's lips curled.

"Yes," he said, "She's with me right now."

"Perfect," she began, "May I speak with her?"

"She can't. She's sleeping," Su Feng responded casually.

"..."

"Wake her up; she'll kill you if you don't at this moment."

At that, Su Feng shivered. He recalled a time when he had forgotten to tell Song Ren about an event the student council was supposed to host. When Song Ren found out, she pulled his ears, making him dress up as a mascot to support the event, and then she made him take off the head and parade around with the body. Many people took pictures, and his ears did not heal for a few days.

"I'm scared," he said quietly over the phone.

Su Feng noticed Song Ren stirring. She raised her head groggily, her long black hair falling over her face like a demon-witch.

"Send help, woman," he said to Qian Meigui.

"Make sure you bring her here as soon as possible; Song Ren has an important meeting that will define her career," she responded.

"Got it."

When Su Feng turned around, Song Ren was glaring at him suspiciously. "What time is it?" she asked.

"It's a bit over lunch," he replied, the fear caught in his throat.

Song Ren stood up quickly, "Shit!"

"Don't worry, I will drive you," he said immediately. "I think you left your sunglasses and scarf in my lab; I'll get it right now."

"There's no time," she said while hurriedly placing her shoes.

Su Feng grabbed the keys from the nightstand. They then rushed out of the room near his office. There were many scattered across the building for overworked employees, but this was his private room.

Xia Lanfen watched as her boss leave the master room wearing the same clothes from the night before. The woman he was with was also wearing the same clothes from the night before, although unmasked. And she was shocked beyond words. That woman stayed with him overnight?

Xia Lanfen looked closely without seeming too nosey. The woman's face was hard and reserved, not a woman that screamed damsel in distress, but someone far more dignified and powerful. But she had never seen her before. If she was essential in the social scene or if she meant anything to Su Feng, she would have a name for the girl.

Su Feng followed Song Ren down the elevator. He did not care about what the employees thought about him, but he was afraid of what they thought of Song Ren. They both came out of the office room looking dishevelled and messy. The thought burned his cheeks, but he knew that Song Ren was silently fuming with anger.

When Su Feng stole a glance at her, she was already glaring at him with an appearance of imminent death. Su Feng shivered.

They both walked to the car parked outside the building, and Su Feng sped off. Song Corporation was not far from Sun Group, so they got there within twenty minutes.

As soon as they entered the building, Su Feng caught sight of the interior of Song Corporation, which looked different than Sun Group. Sun Group had a more traditional mixed with contemporary architecture, whereas Song Corporation looked as if it came from a time-travel film.

Qian Meigui was waiting with a man in the lobby when they arrived. "Song Ren," Yang Minzhe called out.

Yang Minzhe approached her and said, "They will be arriving soon."

"All right, I just need a few more minutes to prepare myself," she responded.

"Of course," he said.

Yang Minzhe glanced over at the man that accompanied her. He gaped at the sight of Young Master Feng. Young Master Feng is at Song Corporation with his lady boss? He felt as if he was about to faint. Why is the man she hated the most doing here? Together?

He wished he could tell his friends if Yang Minzhe had any, but he remembered the contract he signed not to release any private or secret information. Plus, he would never sell out Song Ren.

He could not believe he was in the presence of Su Feng! But he always believed that his lady boss was way cooler! But why was the young master glaring at him? He knew he looked sweaty, but he could not help but feel nervous about the stressful situation.

"Thank you for bringing her here, Young Master Feng," she said and bowed.

"It's my pleasure," he responded, "And there's no need for formalities, we are to be family soon," he said.

Qian Meigui smiled. "Indeed," she said before walking away.
