After capturing the dual-element Ground Armor Beast, Cao Yan had officially taken the first step towards succeeding in his mission.
He and Eggy continued advancing towards the depths of the forest with the hopes of capturing more demon beasts.
Ever since Eggy entered the forest, although it seemed to be turning here and there, it was actually advancing towards a specific direction. Its goal appeared to be very clear.
Cao Yan had already spent four hours in the forest. It was 3 pm now, and it was getting dimmer as they got deeper into the forest. The ancient trees towered above them and were covered with twisting vines.
Eggy was getting cautious and had also reduced its speed.
Whoosh!
As Cao Yan walked, something shot out from beside him, aiming straight for his throat.
It was a lizard with green and yellow patterns, disguised as a vine. It was a stage-two demon beast, just like Eggy.
It dared to actively attack Cao Yan and Eggy because lizards were spiders’ nemesis. They would often hunt spiders for food, and therefore, this lizard did not think much of Eggy. After killing Cao Yan, dealing with the spider would be a piece of cake.
The lizard, having made the wrong judgment, immediately paid the price.
It wanted to attack by sending its tongue out at lightning speed, aiming to puncture Cao Yan’s throat. However, the moment it was about to launch its move, Eggy shifted with incredible speed and lifted one of its limbs. With a single stab, blood splattered all over.
The lizard’s tongue was severed. It fell to the ground, writhing like a small snake. At the same time, Eggy used its other limb to pierce through the lizard’s jaw from the bottom up.
The whole process was cold-blooded and ruthless.
Eggy displayed its viciousness to a tee.
“You wastrel! This forest chameleon is a stage-two color-changing camouflage demon beast. I can sell it for quite some money, but you just had to kill it in two seconds.” Cao Yan glared at Eggy.
Eggy decided to pretend not to hear Cao Yan and started digging in.
Actually, right before the lizard attacked, Cao Yan could already sense the danger with his spiritual energy, and so did Eggy. The two of them would always be scheming, and even without any communication, they had good chemistry. Earlier, they feigned ignorance toward the lizard’s presence while secretly splitting their roles. Cao Yan would be in charge of luring the demon and Eggy would use its killer move to settle it in one blow.
As night fell, the sky was cast in a fiery red glow.
An hour later, Eggy brought Cao Yan to a tree in the forest. It waved its limbs, motioning its master to climb up.
“I have a slight fear of heights. Why the hell would I climb up a tree?” Cao Yan raised his head to study the tree. He found it too tall, as tall as a skyscraper.
Cao Yan had brought some tools to aid in climbing trees. He took out a pair of soft metal gloves with barbs and put on a metal shoe cover that had a crescent hook. After that, he nimbly made his way up the tree.
Eggy followed along without any difficulties.
Three minutes later, the two were at the mid-section of the tree. As soon as they squatted at one of the branches, Cao Yan asked Eggy why they were here, for he was really scared of heights. His legs were shaking, and he was afraid he might wet himself if he stayed up there any longer.
Eggy waved its limbs and pointed in a direction. Cao Yan followed its limb and was surprised.
There was an even taller tree in the distance. The tree stood taller than the surrounding trees, and there was a giant bird’s nest, the size of a three-room apartment, on its crown. The most shocking thing was, mini whirlwinds enveloped the bird’s nest. As the howling whirlwinds intersected and separated, the clouds in the area rolled and swiveled like crashing waves. It was a sublime sight to behold.
The relevant knowledge from the demon pet trainer skill book started flashing in his mind, helping Cao Yan to quickly make a judgment on what kind of demon beast rested in that nest. It should be an avian beast that could manipulate winds and storms, named the Qingyun Bird.
Judging from the magnitude of the storm, Cao Yan could tell that the Qingyun Bird bird was at least an Elite.
Stage-four and stage-three might just be one rank apart, but it marked the difference between the Subordinates and the Elites, and that made them worlds apart. The two levels could not be compared at all.
“Eggy, you fool! I asked if there were any eggs to steal, and you brought me to an Elite demon’s nest? The two of us aren’t even enough to make a meal for that bird. Don’t you know any better?” Cao Yan chided his pet.
Eggy was intelligent and could connect with Cao Yan spiritually, so it could roughly understand that its owner was dissing it. It quickly expressed its differing opinion, waving a limb and pointing at its backside.
Cao Yan realized that he could actually understand its gestures. “You mean the bird in that nest just laid an egg, so it’s very weak now?”
Eggy used its limb to knock on the trunk beside it, making a dull thud, to express that Cao Yan had guessed correctly.
“If it’s not as strong as it usually is, which stage is it roughly at? Can you handle it?” Cao Yan continued asking.
Eggy tilted its head. Obviously, it did not know what a stage meant. Therefore, it was unable to reply to Cao Yan’s question.
Cao Yan looked at the giant nest in the distance and thought for a while. In the end, he decided to give up on the eggs and not take the risk.
Hunting in the forest was no child’s play. A single mistake could easily cost one their life. Cao Yan did not need to risk his life for money and do something that he was not even half certain of.
As he was about to climb down the tree, Eggy suddenly lifted a limb and pointed in another direction.
Hm?
This fellow had another plan?
Cao Yan looked in the direction Eggy was pointing in. It was already evening, and night would come faster in the forest. It was difficult for Cao Yan to clearly see in the darkness, even though he was on a tree.
However, Cao Yan still tried to take a closer look in the direction Eggy was pointing at.
The big bird was Eggy’s first plan, but it was an Elite and was not to be trifled with. The target for the second plan should be a little weaker, right?
Cao Yan was confident that Eggy would at least have that much intelligence to not bring its owner to court their deaths together.
When the duo climbed down the tree, Cao Yan waved his hand. Eggy darted forward first in the direction it was pointing in.
They spent around half an hour reaching their destination. Along the way, they were attacked by demon beasts twice. While they were at it, they captured one of the demon beasts, a stage-two forest leopard. Cao Yan quickly kept it in a demon ball before Eggy could eat it.
Night had fallen, and it was completely dark now.
Ever since Cao Yan became a pet trainer, there had been some slight changes in his body. Now, he could see a little in the dark.
Eggy, who was leading the way, suddenly stopped. It stealthily crouched, and Cao Yan followed suit as he looked ahead.
The pure moonlight filtered down through the canopy. There was a pool of clear water ahead. The water was emerald green and was still. Though, Cao Yan could not notice anything amiss.
The pool of water was stretched out across 10 meters. There were strange-looking rocks and trees of varying heights all around.
Cao Yan quickly discovered what was special about this place.
There was a cave hidden amidst the trees and rocks by the pool. It was enshrouded in darkness and appeared mysterious under the veil of the night.
There’s a demon beast in this cave?
Cao Yan looked at Eggy and thought. This time, it’s obviously not a bird since it resides in a cave…
