Chapter 27
I thought calmly.
‘You’re out of your mind.’
It was best to avoid a madman.
As I turned around and walked, Argention caught up again.
The same was true of the other side.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“If it’s a dance that needs to be done anyway, it doesn’t matter who the partner is, right?”
He seemed to be determined not to give up.
“Okay, let’s dance, then.”
Argention was the craziest man in the original.
I would be in trouble if I was stuck with an obsession flag like ‘You’re the first woman to treat me like this.’
“It’s an honor.”
The slightly raised eyebrows were gently curved, and I almost lost my mind without realizing it.
‘I can see why Roselina wanted to get involved with him so badly.’
“Let’s hurry up and go.”
“As you wish.”
I snorted and urged him.
As I went out to the center stage of the hall, a waltz flowed out.
Argention laid his hand lightly on my waist.
“I can ask you now. Why are you here?”
“Is it too late to say that I want to know more about you?”
“Don’t joke around and tell me the truth.”
“Oh, you don’t believe me. I’m just sad.”
Even when asked while dancing, Argention only spoke smoothly.
“Okay, I guess you don’t want to tell me. Then I have a way.”
“What is it?”
“If you keep doing that, I’ll like you”
Argention had a strange face.
‘Okay, I guess it worked.’
The sight sent me a smile of satisfaction and drove a wedge.
“You wanted to divorce me, but how could you make a surprise appearance like today? It’ll shake my heart, right? I can’t be swayed. I’ll like you again. I’m gonna go back to the Palesdon mansion and stick around all day.”
It was my affection that the villain in the original was afraid of.
“Then divorce will be out of the question. Do you want that?”
I was satisfied to see the slightly hardened face of Argention.
“If you don’t like it, don’t give it a chance.”
The music’s over just in time.
I came down from the center stage without lingering.
At the height of the feast.
Elizabeth appeared.
“The Duchess of Brighton. You’re here. I heard you’re resting because you’re not feeling well. Are you okay?”
“Thanks to your concern, I’ve improved a lot. I came here to watch the banquet even for a moment.”
“Good to see you’re here. I’m relieved that the Duchess of Brighton is safe.”
“What do you mean, safe?”
When Elizabeth asked back, the ladies whispered in secret.
“She’s back in Brighton, right?”
“Sure enough. There’s already been a commotion.”
“I was surprised to see you still the same as before.”
Elizabeth’s lips drew an arc as they twisted and cracked the skillful Rosalina.
“Everyone welcomes my daughter. It’s a real pleasure.”
Pretending not to understand the gossip about Roselina, Elizabeth smiled.
“I’ve been looking forward to today. It’s the day my lovely daughter hosted the banquet, right?”
“You have a deep love for the Duchess of Palesdon.”
“Of course, she’s the most precious treasure in the world.”
What does this mean?
The ladies exchanged secret glances through their fans.
“Thank you to everyone who came to Brighton today.”
Then, Rosellina stood in front of the podium with a toast.
“I’m here as a Brighton.”
The remark caused a stir in the banquet hall.
There were many witnesses who watched the incident at the restaurant before to emphasize that she’s a daughter of Brighton.
“I think the rumor that they’re getting divorced is true.”
“But earlier, the Duke of Palesdon treated the Duchess like a wife. It wasn’t like they’re getting divorced.”
“You people. It’s to show that family relationships are still there, whether or not they are divorced. It’s all a show.”
“Then they’re really going to get divorced.”
Roselina continued her toast, no matter what the nobles talked about.
“I want to thank my father for welcoming me back. I offer you this fairy-blessed glass, wishing you good health and happiness all the time.”
“Your return has been a blessing to Brighton, and I will thank you on behalf of Brighton.”
The Duke of Brighton received the cup Roselina gave him and lifted it high.
“For the infinite glory of the Empire!”
“For you!”
He emptied the cup in one gulp.
Elizabeth, who was watching from afar, shone her eyes.
How long have I been looking forward to this moment, with the intention of destroying it if it doesn’t become mine?
‘It won’t last a few minutes.’
She smiled happily and began counting down to herself.
Cough.
Soon the Duke began to cough, as Elizabeth had expected.
Cough.
Coughs rang out in the banquet hall.
People wondered when the unusual sound grew longer.
“What? I don’t think he’s choking.”
“What’s wrong with him?”
“But he looked healthy today.”
A moment when people are confused.
Cough!
The Duke of Brighton coughed again.
His throat swirled, and the duke hurriedly raised his mouth.
But his efforts were overshadowed by the red fluid running through his fingers.
“Blood?”
Someone who recognized it murmured softly.
“Oh, my God.”
The atmosphere froze in an instant.
“Honey!”
It was Elizabeth’s desperate voice that woke up the silence that had been around the banquet hall for a while.
“What’s going on?”
“Call the doctor!”
People began to shout separately as if the sound were a signal.
“Honey! What the hell is going on? Are you all right?”
Elizabeth ran toward the podium.
The Duke of Brighton, who coughed a few more times, staggered.
As if he’s about to collapse if you leave him like that.
“Honey! Somebody please catch him! Please.”
Elizabeth sat down and sobbed as if her whole body had lost strength.
Then.
“Where’s the doctor?”
Roselina cleared up the chaos.
She ordered the Duke to sit in a chair and sent a person to bring in a doctor.
And the way she’s comforting people.
“Everyone, calm down.”
It was so calm.
It was natural to explain the situation to the doctor who arrived soon after.
At that moment, doubts sprouted in people’s minds.
“Why is she so calm? Like someone who knew this was gonna happen.”
“She expected this? Then why did she stay still?”
“Why? She’s the mastermind of this case!”
The duke drank Roselina’s wine then vomited blood.
It was an undeniable fact that everyone in the banquet hall was a witness.
“The Duke of Brighton has been poisoned!”
Eventually, someone shouted, but no one stopped him.
The culprit was not identified, but no one knew who the culprit was.
Everyone was thinking the same thing.
The return of Brighton’s disaster, the most evil woman to ever exist, poisoned the Duke of Brighton!
“Why? The Duke of Brighton is her biological father, no matter how evil she is!”
“A true villain doesn’t care about that.”
“Who would want to kill their parents with their own hands?”
“Hey, have you seen the Prince of Brighton? Have you heard of any sightings?”
“I don’t have any. Oh, maybe…”
“Yeah, there’s talk that his death was also the work of the Duchess of Palesdon.”
Rumors spread quickly as plausible stories were added.
“Oh, my.”
Elizabeth, who was leaning on a knight, barely got up.
Her tear-stained face aroused people’s sympathy.
“Honey, honey…”
Elizabeth, who was crying while calling the Duke of Brighton, turned to Roselina.
“Roselina, my daughter. It’s not true, is it?”
“What are you talking about?”
Elizabeth shed thick tears.
“I have trusted my daughter. Even if people have been pointing fingers. Everyone’s misunderstanding my daughter. In fact, everyone will know one day that she’s a sweet, good girl.”
“Is the Duchess of Palesdon sweet and kind? It’s over the line.”
“Shh. You’re so slow, aren’t you? Listen quietly!”
A few tactless people were stared at and shut their mouths.
“It was like that this time too. You suddenly came into the mansion, and I raised you like the former duchess did! I believed Dorota had made a big enough mistake to be kicked out. I didn’t react at all at first. She’s someone who’s like a grandmother to you.”
“She kicked out that nanny?”
“I’ve heard that she has a bad temper, but it’s really poisonous.”
Elizabeth’s testimony followed.
“Servants come to me every day and I didn’t believe them even if they were scared. On the contrary, I scolded them for not serving their masters properly.”
“Even my biological mother can’t do that.”
“’I’ve seen the Duchess of Brighton again. I didn’t know she was such a good mother.”
At last Elizabeth reached the platform.
Then she clasped Roselina’s hands with both hands.
“A few days ago, you ran out of the room with blood all over your body. But fortunately, my daughter was fine without a scratch.”
“So who’s the owner of the blood?”
“Maybe the Duchess Palesdon?”
Elizabeth continued to speak affirmatively to people’s questions.
“The weapon was found in Leodor’s room. And today the duke emptied the cup he had received from his daughter and collapsed. It happened as soon as my daughter came back. Is this the result of my faith?”
Elizabeth, who thought she had put Roselina in a corner, sobbed and ended the act.
