Chen Xin had to check on his transportation capabilities since he was stepping outside.

Chen Xin had an SUV so he did not need to clear out the backseat for two containers to easily fit inside his car. However, he might not be able to fit a refrigerator inside.

He had to figure out how to move a refrigerator back to his bunker if he traded the vegetables.

Maybe he could tie it to the car roof? Or maybe he could place the refrigerator at an angle and tie it with ropes?

It was not easy to carry it back with an SUV.

However, it was not that big of a deal, if Chen Xin could get a refrigerator, he could find a way to bring it back to the bunker.

He lived in the city for many years and had a lot of friends here. He could easily use fresh vegetables to get help.

Despite that, Chen Xin was unsure of how many friends would help him out. He was not sure if they were still alive or are struggling in the government shelter.

The car was abandoned for a month and had a layer of dust on it. Other than that, the car was okay, Chen Xin refueled it and was ready to go.

Chen Xin prepared himself to go outside the bunker.

He was unsure of the situation outside so he needed to take precautions. For example, there might be toxic gases outside, he also needed to consider the temperature and any other potential hazards.

Chen Xin had to protect himself even if he had a car.

Chen Xin took out his outdoor gear. His windbreaker sportswear would help him avoid bugs, it was waterproof and great for staying warm too. However, it would lose its warmth if it got wet.

Outdoor hypothermia was dangerous even in the summertime, plus it was like winter out there, he had to wear clothes that would keep him warm.

Apart from the specialized clothing, Chen Xin brought his gas mask along with him. He was concerned about the air quality outside.

There was a wildfire releasing all sorts of toxic gases so Chen Xin had to make sure he could avoid the smoke.

Chen Xin was ready to go. He hesitated and reached for his weapons.

The Vermillion government did not give up and ensured order during the apocalypse. They provided citizens the government shelter too and maintained control. However, Chen Xin could not be sure of what the situation outside was.

Law and order existed before the apocalypse and the government bunker, but what if they no longer had a bunker?

Chen Xin was not sure if the world was as peaceful as he remembered.

Weapons were a necessary precaution, it was more effective than fumbling around when faced with danger.

He hung his EDC equipment on his clothes, placed a dagger in the back, hesitated then placed another dagger in his boots. He took his ASP stick that he hung on the keychain hanger.

Chen Xin was confident in his fighting skills, he believed with these weapons he could handle two to three men, as long as they did not have a gun.

Chen Xin made a mental note to upgrade the weapons one day. If he had a gun he would feel much safer.

After he spent all his survival points on the water system, he was left with only 28 survival points. He would have to wait until next month for another upgrade.

Chen Xin packed and brought along four 25L plastic containers, then opened the bunker gates.

The big plastic containers were for fuel, he stored 4000 liters of gas fuel in the bunker and already used 300 liters.

He spent another 50 liters on the car. Chen Xin needed to secure another source for fuel.

There were two gates in the bunker, Chen Xin opened the inner gate and started the car. He drove into the tunnel connected to the outside world.

Chen Xin stopped the car, got out, and closed the inner gate. He put on his gas mask, took a deep breath, and opened the outer gate.

He was alienated from the outside world for a month, it had been a month since the meteorite crashed.

What did the world look like during an apocalypse? How many people had survived? What was the situation outside?

A myriad of questions filled his mind. He was confused and afraid to open the gates. He was scared to find out that it was the end of the world and he was the only survivor.

It was not likely, but anything could happen in an apocalypse. Chen Xin could not ignore that possibility.

He needed to find out and see for himself.

He took another deep breath, forcefully pushed down on the gate handle, and pulled!

The gate opened.

There was no light outside.

Chen Xin looked at a dark sky. It was supposed to be early afternoon, but it looked like it was late evening. The sky was covered with black clouds. Comets could be seen from time to time.

The surface was charred from burning and covered in ash grey dust.

Chen Xin found himself looking at an unfamiliar world.
