19 Manager Lu

Chapter 18: Manager Lu

Bai Lin turned towards his lackeys and pointed towards Van.

"Teach him a lesson."

The four lackeys hesitated for a bit before realizing the intensities of their leader's anger. They shot forward and started throwing out their Martial Techniques.

"Vortex Fist: 5th Form, Hurricane Torrent!"

"Darkness Descends!"

"Raging River!"

"Volcanic Eruption!"

Surprisingly, the four lackeys were quite strong. But if you considered the fact that they were the young elites of Potent River Sect, it wasn't as surprising anymore.

Van calmly stood in his spot with an amused expression.

"I haven't fought much and my body hasn't really gotten used to this new power, yet. So let's try this!"

Van threw out a Void Fist with his full cultivation base, making sure to confuse the Qi fluctuations. He withheld a bit of his power to make sure that the Outer Sect disciples weren't too heavily injured.

Previously, the guard captain was sitting in the corner nervously watching the situation play out. The young elites were at the 10th Stage of Body Fortification. After all, they were chosen to be the guards of the silkpants, Bai Lin.

The four lackeys were sent flying in different directions all of them eventually impacted something that stopped them from flying any further. The first two were in severe shape with many ribs cracked and their legs broken. The last two were in better shape with only an arm broken. That is if you didn't consider the little bit of internal bleeding.

Van smiled wryly as he heard the moans and groans of the four lackeys rolling on the ground. He should've withheld more power. He saw Bai Lin shaking in fear in front of him and the guard captain finally coming over to curry some favor with Van while he could.

"I thought you were going to teach me a lesson?"

Van stood there like a lonely hero with his head up and his hands behind his back. Bai Lin had a strange expression that quickly turned back to one of fear. Bai Lin was sweating quite intensively as he watched Van stand there with his piercing eyes. He gulped and started to make excuses.

"Ww.w.w.what Lesson? That was my lackeys' ideas! Senior! Don't get the wrong ideas!"

"Hey! You told us to..."

The lackeys were suddenly silenced and Bai Lin made sure that they couldn't talk for a while.

"See! Problem solved! Senior, I apologize for the trouble these four might have caused."

Bai Lin started to smile nervously. Van looked at this situation agape.

This silkpants is really vicious. Even beating up his own men for his own personal benefit. Van sighed, it wasn't like this was an irresolvable issue between two parties that required a fight to the death so Van decided to let the kid off.

"Your apology sounds relatively sincere. Try not to trouble your betters next time."

Van walked back into the carriage and was showered by praises from the guard captain every step of the way.

Bai Lin let out a relieved breath as he watched Van's carriage land on Manager Lu's guest flying platform. He then turned back to the four lackeys.

"Don't cause trouble for me! You hear that! Next time you try to, I'm sending you to Potent River's 1,000 Toxic Snake Valley!"

The four lackeys shivered as they heard their young master's words. 1,000 Toxic Snake Valley was a fate worse than death. As cultivators of the Potent River Sect, they understood the implications too well.

Manager Lu was a man at the 5th Stage of Dantian Formation. He was not someone to be trifled with, especially in the lower reaches. He was an unparalleled genius in the lower reaches. He reached the 1st Stage of Dantian Formation when he had reached 20, missing the mark for entering the Middle Continent by 2 years. Now, he has the exalted position of Transportation Services Manager for the Red Eagle Pavilion.

Manager Lu was currently talking to a youth clothed in white robes with red trimming. It was one of the Outer Sect Disciples of the Potent River Sect. In fact, it was the 6th ranking disciple on the Red Stream List. There were 3 lists in the Potent River Sect: The Red Stream for Outer Sect Disciples, The Red River for the Inner Sect Disciples and the Red Sea for the Core Disciples or disciples of important figures in the Sect.

The youth was requesting a favor for going to Frigid Vale City, where one of the stronger branches of the Potent River Sect was. Many Outer Sect Disciples had it hard in the main branch with the fierce competition and instead tried to make a name for themselves in the outer branches. The problem was that the youth could not afford the fee and was currently trying to curry some favor. Basically, he was trying to get a "free lunch" from Manager Lu.

After a few minutes of fierce discussion, the Manager had enough of the youth and sent him out.

"Next!"

Van with the guard captain of the 3rd Red Eagle Squadron entered the office. Manager Lu raised an eyebrow as he watched the odd pair come in.

"I wouldn't expect the guard captain of the 3rd Red Eagle Squadron to grace me with his presence."

Manager Lu stood up and embraced the guard captain. After a few friendly exchanges, Manager Lu turned his attention to Van.

"So, who have you brought here? Anyone that the guard captain would escort must be an important person. May I have the pleasure of knowing your name."

Manager Lu extended a hand to Van, which Van quickly accepted.

"Greetings, Senior. My name is Van Nguyen."

"That's a good name for a good person."

Manager Lu gave a big smile and they all sat down in their respective chairs.

"Let's get down to business. What brings you to my humble office, Van?"

"I would like to able to get to the Middle Continent. Also, I would like you to sell some transportation vehicles for my new business that will be started by my aunt."

Manager Lu had a shocked expression on his face when he heard Van's aspirations of starting a trading firm.

"How shall I know it is yours?"

"It shall be called the 'Hearth Trading Firm'."

Manager Lu nodded his assent.

"As long as you have the funds to buy it, I shall provide you with the carriages. I will even give a discount depending on the number of carriages bought."

Van nodded approvingly and knew that he was going to owe Manager Lu a favor.

"Pardon me for asking this, but may I have a look at your command medallion?"

"Sure, it won't hurt."

Van pulled out the red command medallion and handed it over to Manager Lu. Manager Lu's eyes widened as he examined the medallion.

"I apologize, Van. I didn't know that you had a Red Command Medallion. With this, you will get an immediate 15% off all the products purchased."
