The first reaction that Kazuto made when he heard Lionel's explanation was an intimidating aura.
How dare Zehell wanted to make him as his disciple after almost killing him and Niken!
Lamentably, whatever aura he gave to the man, as long as he used his elemental energy, it would not affect Zehell, a mix-blood wizard.
"I don't want to do it." fumed Kazuto.
"Are you sure you don't want to be my apprentice? Then try to think like this, if you can't unite your elemental energy with your magic, you won't be able to protect your inamorata from any magic advances."
The tip of Kazuto's lips twitched at that. Is this person planning to attack Niken again?? Or is he threatening him? What kind of mentor threatened someone just to get him as mere disciple?!
"Besides, I will let you reciprocate me whatever you wish once you have mastered the merged powers of these two forces."
"..."
"Kazuto, after Niken succeeded in creating her time-spacial, we have to travel to three other nations to expand her spacial's range. We will never know what kind of danger or enemy we will face. There are other creatures that are more dangerous than daemons. I hope you can open-minded regarding this. For Niken."
Kazuto could not dispute Lionel's explanation. If indeed he could protect his inamorata by combining his two powers, he would definitely do it. He was still unwilling to be a disciple of the person who almost killed him, let alone calling him a master.
It was a tradition for Elementalists who had a mix-blood wizard teacher to call the mentor as master. They would be a teacher-students in this lifetime. A master was a teacher and father all his life, and Kazuto did not want to have a 'father' figure like Zehell!
"Daemons? They are indeed dangerous, but they are easy to defeat, right?" Niken, who had no recollection of the daemons who almost ravished her, asked nonchalantly. "As long as we don't get caught up in their illusions, we can defeat them."
"Having an optimistic mind is very good, but it is not good to underestimate the opponent's ability. Daemons are easy to defeat once we break their illusions, but it won't be easy to get out of the illusory daemon trap." Zehell explained. "Do I need to bring one of the daemons here? I had one in my as..."
"DON'T!"
"NO!"
Simultaneously Kazuto and Lionel rejected Zehell's proposal leaving Niken dumbfounded. Isn't this the first time the two men reacted in harmony?
"Why not? This is a perfect opportunity to... "
"I will be your disciple." blurted Kazuto interrupted Zehell's words. "As long as you don't bring a daemon here, I'm willing to be your apprentice."
Well, maybe the little girl would be trapped in an illusion, but as long as they are by Niken's side, that girl would be fine.
Then what are they worried about? Zehell couldn't find the answer at all.
Ah, who cares with a daemon. The important thing is Kazuto agreed to be his disciple.
As a mix-blood wizard who has lived in this world for more than a century and did not have a partner, life was pretty much dull. He could have adopted a child, but he did not want his adopted kid to be his weakness. Therefore he preferred to take a disciple.
All these years, he was looking for someone who worthy enough to learn from him but could not find it. He wanted to find someone who had special abilities like himself, specifically combining elemental energy and magic.
Not all mix-blood could combine these two power. The average mix-blood would only use magic because the wizard's blood was more dominant than Elementalist's blood. If the mix-blood forced himself to use Elemental energy, his body would become weak and sickly.
Likewise, if he insists on combining the two, his veins would appear in the skin and rupture, leading to his own death.
Kazuto almost experienced it. His veins were visible on the nerves of his face like a zombie, but the blood of a wolf that had regeneration quickly protected him from rupturing.
Kazuto was not a mix-blood wizard, but his level of energy flow was in par with a mix-blood wizard. Moreover, the young man had the potential to combine his two source of powers. That's why Zehell was very interested in making Kazuto his legacy disciple.
"All right, then we can start now."
Instantly, Kazuto's feelings felt uneasy. He glanced down to find a blue-colored magic circle underneath. His eyes widened to realize that the magic circle belonged to his new mentor.
"Wai...!"
Psh!
Kazuto had not had time to protest when Kazuto and Zehell had disappeared instantly before Niken.
"Kazu! Where is Kazuto?" Niken couldn't help but be worry that Kazuto had suddenly disappeared like a ghost.
"Don't worry, Zehell took him away from here so he can train him more freely. It's still daytime, we should also start our training."
"Eh? Will Kazuto be back?"
"Of course. They will return after sunset."
"But…"
"You better worry about yourself. Do you want to be a burden to Kazuto?"
"..."
"You saw it yourself this morning when my friend attacked you guys. Kazuto was the one who protected you. I thought you want to be more useful."
"I…"
"If you doubt yourself, should we stop all this?"
"No. I will do it."
Lionel could see the firmness and confidence in the girl's eyes. As he thought, he must push the girl so Niken could find her strong desire easier.
'Her magic circle will only appear when she's in danger or when her adrenaline is racing.'
Lionel remembered what Zehell said and wonders why Niken's magic circle did not appear when she was attacked by Zehell's power?
Is it possible because there is Kazuto by her side? Because Niken was sure that Kazuto would protect her?
Now he understood why Zehell had taken Kazuto away. He did not want Kazuto's concentration to break because he was worried about Niken while Niken wouldn't be able to keep relying on Kazuto's presence by her side.
