"When the time comes, how many people will there be trying to recruit him?"
On Nanshan Hill, a light breeze was blowing.
Wang Yao carefully maintained the herbal fields. Ever since the Hallucination Array was established, the growth rates of these herbs had been astounding. This was especially so for the spiritual herbs which took forever to grow.
As he was going through the fields, the dog followed along beside him wagging its tail in joy.
"San Xian, you must help me look after this place."
Bark bark!
…
By the seaside in Haiqu City, the waves were rolling in.
A beautiful person sighed helplessly.
"Uncle He, sometimes I wonder, were I in Xiao Xue's place, how would I fare?"
"What are you thinking about this for?"
"I don't know either. It's just been on my mind recently," the beautiful person said while gazing upwards at the blue sky.
"Oh heavens, you gave her a life of riches, twenty years of living like a princess. Then you gave her three years where living was like death. What is this? Fairness? Or a prank?"
"Miss, you…"
Ring ring. The ringing of the phone interrupted their conversation. Guo Sirou picked up the phone, and her facial expression became serious.
"Yes, it's me...What?! No problem, I can assure you."
Yes! Guo Sirou excitedly clenched her fist. Her face was beaming, and her body was trembling.
"What is it?" He Qisheng hurriedly asked. It was rare for him to see the usually serious young miss lose control of her emotions like this.
"He has agreed."
"Agreed? He agreed to go to Beijing?!"
"Yes, I'll immediately inform the Su family."
Guo Sirou picked up the phone to inform Chen Boyuan, who was still waiting in Lianshan County.
"Miss Guo, are you sure?"
"Yes of course, immediately go prepare; you only have three days left."
"Understood, I'll make preparations now."
Next, there was a phone call to Beijing.
"What, he agreed?!"
"Yes, but there is a condition."
"No matter what, just invite him over. There's a plane waiting in Haiqu city, direct to Beijing."
"Yes."
...
Lianshan County, in the village.
It was not yet noon. Wang Yao left the hill and went to his parents' house.
"Dad, Mom, I've decided to go to Beijing."
"Great!" Unexpectedly, his parents simultaneously expressed their agreement. They were very earnest about it, and his father Wang Fenghua even seemed to release a sigh of relief as though worried that his son would decide not to go.
"Dad, you were hoping that I go?" Wang Yao laughed, asking.
"You could say that," Wang Fenghua shared his true thoughts with his family.
"Recently, I had personally seen four people die. Two of them were even from our village, and I even knew them personally. I really wanted to help them, but what could I do?" Wang Fenghua said. It seems that this incident had little relation to Wang Yao going to Beijing.
Wang Yao listened quietly. He could understand his father's sentiments. Having seen death before, he could not bear to let someone else die like this.
"Do what you can to help."
"I will," Wang Yao said, nodding his head.
"When you go to Beijing this time, we will help you look after your herbal fields."
"Alright."
"I'll go make food."
"No need, the people are already here," Wang Yao said with a faint smile.
"Huh?"
Knock knock knock. Sounds of knocking came from the door.
"Someone's here."
Just as he said this, someone pushed open the door and entered. It was the two men who came previously, Chen Boyuan and Xia Su.
"Okay then, I'm leaving," Wang Yao said.
"Okay, I'll head up to Nanshan Hill," Wang Fenghua said, getting up.
"How about eating before you leave?"
"Don't worry, there's food up on the hill," Wang Fenghua replied.
"Mr. Wang?"
"Let's go," Wang Yao replied.
"Thank you."
The black car left the house and sped off along the road. It seemed that Chen Boyuan was not a talkative fellow, and Xia Su was even more quiet. The two of them scarcely said up to ten lines in the entire one-hour drive. Haiqu City's airport had just been established not too long ago, so it was shocking to see a private jet waiting there, the value of which could not be estimated.
"Tsk tsk, look at that. It's a Gulfstream G550, a rich man's toy!"
"I wonder which boss is so rich?"
"It's from Beijing."
It took roughly an hour and twenty minutes from Lianshan County to Haiqu City. Because of the recent renovation works along this stretch of road, it took a little longer than expected. When they reached the airport, Guo Sirou and He Qisheng were already waiting there.
"Doctor Wang, thank you," Guo Sirou said sincerely.
This time, by agreeing to help her out, Wang Yao had truly done a big favor for her and her family.
"Don't forget what you promised me," Wang Yao said flatly.
"Definitely."
"Mr. Wang, please be at ease. Whatever Miss Guo has promised, our family will certainly deliver."
"Let's go."
At the airport, Wang Yao also saw the brand new commercial aircraft.
"Big families are different."
This is the first time he was sitting on a plane, and such a high grade one at that! It seems like the bosses at the highest echelons of the country loved to ride these sort of planes, which cost up to a few billion. The interior was also decorated in a very extravagant manner.
"Then, let's go see the ancient capital and today's Beijing!"
The plane quickly ascended after it took off, and Wang Yao could see the clouds outside through the window.
"Mr. Wang, this is the lunch we have prepared. Because of time constraints, we had to prepare something simpler; please bear with it. After reaching Beijing, we will invite you to a big meal."
"This is already pretty good," Wang Yao said lightly.
...
Beijing, the ancient capital of hiding dragons and tigers.
As the plane descended, Wang Yao could see the shape of the city's buildings and a mixture of modern and ancient architecture.
It's easy to imagine how many people would like to move over and set up a family in Beijing. It's also easy to imagine the many who attempted and failed. Many years back, Wang Yao too had such notions. He had a few friends who moved to Beijing that he had not contacted for a while. He wondered how they were doing now.
As the plane was touching down, there were already people waiting outside, and a car prepared to pick them up.
...
In a house in Beijing.
"What's going on?" A well-dressed middle-aged man rushed out into the living room.
"Xiang Rong, don't be too shocked. Xiaoxue might not have much time left."
"What?!"
"She's too worn out!" Said a 70-year-old man, sighing in exasperation.
A girl like this, after contracting such a strange disease—the fact that she had held onto until now was already a miracle.
That middle-aged man was also stunned after hearing this. He stood there in a daze.
"Worn out! I'm worn out too!"
…
"Where is the light coming from? It feels so warm."
"What place is that, Heaven? Or is it another world?"
"Goodbye, Grandpa, Dad, Mom. I'm tired. I can't hold on much longer."
"If there's such a thing as reincarnation, I hope to once again be your daughter, healthily."
Beep beep beep! The apparatus by her bedside started beeping rapidly.
"Xiaoxue, Xiaoxue!" The middle-aged man anxiously called out the girl's name as though to keep her from leaving. Listening to that sound, everyone rushed into the room.
"I'm sorry, head elder."
The old man didn't say a word, but tears were streaming down his eyes.
They still couldn't save her!
"They're here!" A 40-year-old man rushed in from the outside. Then, he saw a scene that made him very worried.
"Xiaoxue!"
When Wang Yao entered the room, he saw a whole room of people crying and calling Xiaoxue's name. He saw the patient lying on the sick bed, her body wrapped in bandages. He also saw the apparatus at the bedside, beeping constantly.
It seems that if he had been one step later, she would have passed on.
Seeing this, he hurriedly moved in front of the bed where two mixed scents assaulted his nostrils.
There was a faint fragrance, and then there was a putrid scent that could not be masked, like that of rotting meat.
He reached out and took her pulse.
Hmm? Suddenly, another old doctor who had been tending to the patient made a sound.
"Who is this young man?"
"This person is still alive!" Wang Yao said softly.
"What?!"
Upon hearing him, everyone suddenly stopped crying and opened their eyes to look at him.
"I said, she is still alive," Wang Yao said calmly.
One sentence, it made all the crying in the room stop.
"I need a quiet environment. Not more than three people inside here."
Saying this, Wang Yao took out a clean white bottle from his pocket. Inside it was the Prolongation pill.
Immediately, the room cleared out except for three people. Those were the patient's parents and the old doctor.
Wang Yao shook out one pill. It wasn't too big, but it emitted a unique medicinal scent. This scent was not particularly strong, but it immediately suppressed the faint fragrance and the unpleasant odor.
One pill was delivered to the patient. Then, Wang Yao waited in silence.
Beep beep beep. The apparatus suddenly sounded again. The patient's heart started to beat again.
"How is this possible?!" The old man's eyes widened, and he immediately rushed to her bedside to take her pulse.
A moment later, he straightened his body and stared directly at Wang Yao.
"Young man, what did you give her?!"
"A pill," Wang Yao calmly replied.
"I know it's a pill. What kind of medicine was it?"
"My apologies," Wang Yao refused, laughing.
"I'm sorry; I was too impulsive," was the reply from the old man who regained his wits.
Wang Yao's pill had effectively reversed life and death. However, inside his heart, it was nowhere near as calm as his face seemed to show.
"Fortunately, we were just in time. If we were later by just a little bit, even if it were this miraculous Prolongation Pill, it might not have had any use."
Temporarily, the patient had been revived.
The whole family was joyous, and the patient's mother even cried. As the savior, Wang Yao received thousands of words of thanks.
"Don't thank me too quickly; I still need to take a look at her."
Wang Yao once again went back to take her pulse. This time, it was much longer than before. Earlier, because he was rushing to save the patient, he did not make a thorough diagnosis.
"This is...?!"
Wang Yao frowned. He had never seen anything like this before.
As he looked at the patient in front of him, she looked completely like a rotten up tree—both inside and outside, there was nothing to be done.
The flesh outside was festering, the organs were failing, and the meridians were all in a mess.
This truly was a living dead person!
