When Sang Guzi arrived at the clinic, he saw someone he didn't expect to see.
"Mr. Sun?!" said Sang Guzi.
It was Mr. Sun, who was of high social status. He met him at Dao City a while ago. Mr. Sun's son's weird disease shocked Sang Guzi, who had no idea how to treat it.
"Hello, Dr. Sang," said Mr. Sun with a smile. "I just passed this place, thinking that I shouldn't pay you a visit."
"Welcome!" said Sang Guzi with a smile.
"I come to Cangzhou to visit you specifically. In fact, I want to ask you something," said Mr. Sun.
"What do you want to ask me?" said Sang Guzi.
"It is about my son's illness," said Mr. Sun, who had been the man of his field for twenty years. His voice was low.
"Sorry, I don't think I can do anything to help him," said Sang Guzi.
"Do you know any other extraordinary doctors?" asked Mr. Sun.
"Well, I'm afraid you've already known all the extraordinary doctors I know, or I don't know," said Sang Guzi with a smile.
In fact, he had thought about someone immediately after Mr. Sun asked him to recommend a doctor. It was Wang Yao, who was currently in Wang Family village not far from Cangzhou. He had witnessed Wang Yao's wonderful medial skills twice. Since Wang Yao brought a patient who almost died back to life, he might be able to treat Mr. Sun's son's illness caused by extreme Yang energy.
However, he hadn't mentioned Mr. Sun's son to Wang Yao, so he didn't know if Wang Yao would be willing to see him. After talking to Wang Yao at Zhou Xiong's place, he knew that Wang Yao had probably seen Mr. Sun's son before. However, even Wang Yao couldn't help him.
"There are a lot of extraordinary people in this world. If you know someone who can cure my son, please tell me." Mr. Sun was really humble.
"I will let you know if I come across such a person," said Sang Guzi.
"Great, thank you," said Mr. Sun with a smile. "I'm not going to bother you anymore. Gotta go."
Mr. Sun didn't stay for long. He just had a brief chat with Sang Guzi before leaving.
"Ruohua, what is going on? Why did Mr. Sun come here?" Sang Guzi asked his student.
Ruohua, his student, had been following him for over twenty years. He knew very well that Sang Guzi didn't like hanging out with high officials and noble people. The reason why Sang Guzi went to see Mr. Sun's son in Dao City was because one of his friends asked him to. Normally, Ruohua would turn down those requests.
"Because Tang is in Dao City. He probably told Mr. Sun you are here," said Ruohua softly. "I'm sorry, Master."
"Well, forget it!" Sang Guzi shook his hand. He understood Mr. Sun's sadness as a parent.
"This Mr. Sun is really informative and capable!" said Sang Guzi.
"By the way, Master, he also brought a gift for you," said Ruohua.
"Gift? What gift?!" said Sang Guzi in surprise.
"It's here," said Ruohua.
Looking at where Ruohua pointed his finger at, Sang Guzi found a sculpture. It was a body sculpture, which was an elderly figure with a basket on his back and a wooden stick in his hand. The sculpture had great detail, and it looked so real. It was a very old, antique-looking sculpture—the Sun Simiao, the king of herbs.
Sang Guzi recognized the sculpture figure as soon as he saw it. He went closer to have a good look. The sculpture was made of boxwood, an extremely rare wood.
"What a wonderful sculpture!" praised Sang Guzi.
This gift was very valuable.
Only a handful of people knew that Sang Guzi had special interests in wooden sculpture and antiques as well as being an extraordinary doctor. The sculpture figure was a master of Traditional Chinese medicine. What a rare and precious gift!
Looks like I should talk to Wang Yao, thought Sang Guzi.
...
Zhou Wuyi took two different decoctions within a day.
Both decoctions were effective, but the effects were not obvious. Wang Yao had already expected it. After all, Zhou Wuyi's condition was very tricky. It was not just a cold or the flu.
"How do you feel?" asked Wang Yao.
The most straightforward way to see how effective the decoctions were was to ask the patient.
"I feel much better," said Zhou Wuyi. His voice was still hoarse.
"Which part of your body feels better?" asked Wang Yao.
"My back and my stomach," said Zhou Wuyi who was lying in bed.
"Which is consistent to my diagnosis." Wang Yao nodded.
Wang Yao continued to ask Zhou Wuyi to take the Blood Deblocking power and Regather soup at night. He massaged Zhou Wuyi's chest and stomach after he had taken the decoctions to facilitate the absorption of the medicine. Wang Yao tried to unblock the meridians through external forces and special massage techniques. He tried to re-establish the damaged and deviated meridians.
The process was similar to setting broken bones, but meridians were not like bones. Meridians hid inside muscles, so they couldn't be touched and felt. They can only be identified through advanced medical equipment. Bones can be felt, so it was much easier to set a bone than to set a meridian.
Wang Yao was ready to go back to rest after the treatment.
Zhou Xiong followed him out of the room.
"Dr. Wang, I need to ask you something," said Zhou Xiong.
"What is it?" said Wang Yao.
They went into the front yard where there was no one else around.
"How long are you going to stay here this time?" asked Zhou Xiong.
"I'm not sure, but I won't stay for too long," said Wang Yao.
"I know; can you give me a rough estimate?" asked Zhou Xiong. He asked Wang Yao on behalf of his father.
"I'll let you know within three days," said Wang Yao.
"Okay, thanks," said Zhou Xiong.
It was a peaceful night, nothing happened.
The next morning, something unexpected happened—one of Zhou Wuyi's hands was able to move!
Since he woke up, he was unable to move his body, though he was able to speak and could feel sensations. He was like a paralyzed patient. But this morning, one of his hands could move, precisely to say, one of his fingers could move.
This was a very good sign.
His family then asked Wang Yao to see him.
Wang Yao smiled after seeing Zhou Wuyi.
Because one of the meridians was unblocked, the finger linked to the meridians could move.
Finger movement was just the first step; Zhou Wuyi's arms and legs would gradually start to move as well. But, it was up to Zhou Wuyi how much movement he could gain eventually.
Gross movement of the arms was just something basic; fine movements of hands and fingers, a full range of movements of all upper limb joints, and being able to practice Kung Fu again were on a completely different level. Gross movement of legs was one thing; running and performing Enchanting steps were totally different.
"Great, it's a good sign," said Wang Yao after he had seen Zhou Wuyi.
Zhou Wuyi could regain movements because of the Blood Deblocking power.
"Thank you!" This was the fourth time Zhou Ying said thank you.
What a devoted son! Wang Yao could see he really cared about his father.
"Oh my God!"
Sang Guzi came to Zhou Wuyi's house this morning, and he couldn't help blurting out these three words when he saw his old friend moving his arm.
What a wonderful doctor! thought Sang Guzi.
He really wanted to ask Wang Yao what herbs he had given to Zhou Wuyi, but he didn't.
"Some blocked meridians were unblocked!" said Sang Guzi after checking on Zhou Wuyi.
How could he achieve it in just one day? Sang Guzi really wanted to know.
"Dr. Wang gave us two decoctions and did a Chinese massage." This was the answer from Zhou Wuyi's family.
"My friend, you are such an extraordinary doctor!" Sang Guzi's praise made Wang Yao a bit embarrassed.
"I'm flattered. I still have a lot of things to learn." Wang Yao was telling the truth.
"You are too modest, young man," said Sang Guzi.
In fact, Wang Yao did think he had a lot of things to learn. He had only learned three diagnostic methods among looking, listening, questioning, and feeling the pulse. He hadn't grasped the most wonderful method — looking. H also hadn't learned acupuncture, and he didn't have a rich knowledge of licorice roots and herbal formulas. He had too many things to learn.
"Can I talk to you in private?" asked Sang Guzi.
He and Wang Yao went to the front yard.
"I want to ask you something," said Sang Guzi.
"Please go ahead," said Wang Yao.
"Do you remember Sun Zhengrong who I mentioned to you yesterday," said Sang Guzi.
"Yes, his son is suffering from a lack of Yin energy," said Wang Yao.
"Right. So, you've met him and his son?" said Sang Guzi. Wang Yao's answer confirmed his guess.
"Yes, and I've seen his son," said Wang Yao.
"Why didn't you treat his illness?" asked Sang Guzi.
"I didn't know how to treat his illness at that time, and Mr. Sun didn't seem to trust me because of my age," explained Wang Yao.
