Chapter 34 Preparing for the Beast Competition

The Lightning Rat’s appearance was similar to that of Pikachu. In this world, however, it was called Lightning Rat.

Obviously, people in this world didn’t know what’s what.

This yellow-skinned rat was very powerful.

Li Yi decided to train it first to gauge its potential.

For the time being, he wasn’t planning on contracting any Beasts.

The success rate of contracting a Beast was less than 100%. However, by improving one’s relationship with the Beast, the success rate could be increased.

Also, since Li Yi still had the system space, these pet beasts could not run away. Thus there was no need to complete the contract right away. It would be better to wait until he had developed a warm relationship with one of them.

With this in mind, Li Yi began to put together the first training session.

He was going to have the Lightning Rat go up against the Gale Butterfly!

Li Yi took out a Status he had been saving for this, ( Belligerence ).

He had gathered it while treating other monster pets. If he gave it to a Beast, it would love fighting all of a sudden.

Besides that, Li Yi had also accumulated a lot of other Statuses while treating Beasts, such as Hunger, Satiety, Poison, Weakness, Excitement, Recall, Fear…

As long as these remained complete Statuses, he could use them whenever he wanted to, forever.

Some Statuses could be easily attached to a Beast, while others were very difficult to attach.

For example, if you gave the Hunger Status to a Beast after it had just eaten its fill, it would quickly disappear.

Since Li Yi was unable to physically remove the food in its stomach, even if it became hungry, it would quickly recover.

Mental Statuses, however, were much easier to attach.

For example, Fear, Excitement, and Belligerence.

These could be attached with little to no failure.

At that moment, Li Yi attached the Belligerence Status to the Lightning Rat and the Gale Butterfly.

Both sides swelled with fighting spirit and began to stare at each other.

The Gale Butterfly was the first to attack. With a flap of its wings, a small wind blade shot towards the Lightning Rat.

However, the Lightning Rat was extremely fast. The wind blade could not hurt it at all!

Lightning began to flash all over its body, and its speed suddenly increased. Hence it was easily able to avoid the Gale Butterfly’s attack.

This seemed to be a skill called Lightning Flash.

By releasing electricity, the Lightning Rat can temporarily increase its speed.

It was now the Lightning Rat’s turn. It jumped into the air with all its strength and stretched its small hand towards the Gale Butterfly.

PIPA!

The Lightning Rat let out a sharp buzzing sound as an arc of lightning raced towards the Gale Butterfly. The Gale Butterfly was very fast, too. With a flap of its wings, it could move from one point to another instantly, as if teleporting!

As soon as the Lightning Rat landed on its feet, the Gale Butterfly’s attack came once

again!

This time, the Gale Butterfly flapped its wings, calling forth a small tornado that flew towards the Lightning Rat.

The Lightning Rat tried to escape, but the tornado had a very large area of effect. It had no time to escape and was swept right up into the tornado.

The Lightning Rat was now caught in the spinning tornado. It’s head was becoming dizzy.

Whoosh!

The tornado dispersed, flinging the Lightning Rat onto the ground. Holding its head with both hands, it sat up in a daze.

“CHIRP ~ ~”

The Lightning Rat let out an angry sound, but it would not stand up for a long time.

Li Yi looked over and saw that the Belligerent Status floating above the Lightning Rat’s head was about to disappear.

He quickly threw out another Status, but just the same, it began to gradually disappear.

It seemed that the Lightning Rat had been defeated. Its fighting spirit was almost completely gone.

Now, the effects of its Belligerent Status were vastly reduced.

The Belligerent Status floating above the Gale Butterfly’s head also disappeared. Since it defeated the Lightning Rat, it was satisfied and no longer belligerent.

After resting for a while, Li Yi decided to have the Lightning Rat fight against the Weak Water Ying Dragon.

Although they were of greatly different sizes, Li Yi still wanted to have them battle, mainly because he didn’t have any other monster pets besides these three.

He couldn’t let Garfield fight it, right? Cats are the natural enemy of mice.

By facing an enemy larger than itself, the Lightning Rat could gain some valuable experience.

So, Li Yi attached an Excitement Status to the Lightning Rat, along with another Belligerent Status.

For a moment, the Lightning Rat’s fighting spirit was rekindled. Its momentum was intensifying

Even though the Weak Water Ying Dragon was much bigger than it, it did not cower in the slightest.

Li Yi did not apply any Statuses to the Ying Dragon. Instead, he shouted, “I want you to spar with the Lightning Rat for a bit, but don’t kill it.”

The Ying Dragon seemed to understand as it nodded slightly. Dragons had outstanding intelligence.

It understood most of human language. After the fight began, the Lightning Rat seemed to have gone mad. It rushed towards the Weak Water Ying Dragon.

The Weak Water Ying Dragon did not panic at all. It twisted its body, swinging its tail towards the Lightning Rat.

The Lightning Rat jumped with all its might. It flew right over the dragon’s tail, then tried to pounce on its stomach.

The Ying Dragon hurriedly dodged. If it got too close to the Lightning Rat, no matter how big its body was in comparison, it was still going to hurt.

Getting electrocuted definitely didn’t tickle.

Just then, the Ying Dragon opened its mouth wide and spat out a mouthful of water towards the Lightning Rat.

The Lightning Rat originally planned to rely on speed to dodge it.

However, when the giant ball of water that had come out of the dragon’s mouth finally hit the ground, its area of impact was so large that the Lightning Rat was unable to dodge. It got soaked.

Only then was Li Yi beginning to catch on. The Lightning Rat’s speed was absolutely superior.

The only problem was that its defensive and offensive abilities were a little inferior.

Of course, all this had to do with its strength. The Lightning Rat was only Iron-tier. In contrast, the Gale Butterfly was Bronze-tier and the Ying Dragon was Silver-tier.

Although it was only Silver-tier, this was only its starting strength. Since the Ying Dragon had just been born, it was not considered low. This round, the Lightning Rat was defeated once again. It lay on the ground without moving a muscle, as if it were paralyzed.

No matter how much Li Yi tried to rouse it by adding Statuses, it was no use.

It looked like it was time to take a break. He would train them more later.

But just then, Li Yi remembered that he still had a Breakthrough Status.

The Lightning Rat had just fought dozens of rounds and accumulated a lot of battle experience.

With all this experience, it was reaching a bottleneck stage in its development. Whenever it reached such a stage, it would have to undergo a Breakthrough, and that was by no means easy.

However, if Li Yi just attached a Breakthrough Status to it, it would directly undergo the Breakthrough. No waiting would be necessary.

So, Li Yi took out the Breakthrough Status and placed it above the Lightning Rat’s head.

When he did so, Li Yi saw that the Lightning Rat’s strength was increasing at an insane rate.

It increased from Iron-tier First Grade, to Second Grade, then to Third Grade, all the way up through Ninth Grade!

The Breakthrough went so fast and consistently, surprising Li Yi a little.

Li Yi opened the Lightning Rat’s information panel provided by the system. To his shock, he discovered that a new skill had appeared!

“Fast Movement, is this a new skill? It sounds so ordinary.”

Li Yi, however, understood. After all, the Lightning Rat was getting chased all over the battlefield just now. After all that, it ought to gain a skill like this.
