"Are you saying that your mother is sick?!" King Lawrence abruptly rose from his seat when he heard the news from his son.
It might only be a fever but the Queen rarely got sick as she was always a healthy woman. That's why the King completely lose his cool at the news!
"Yes. I went to your room as soon as I get here. She was sleeping with a high fever. But Doctor Raon treated her and she's quite good now." Standing next to the window inside his parent's room, Felix informed his father. He was so caught up in looking after his mother, so he only realized to call his father now. It was already 8 in the night!
King Lawrence glanced at his wristwatch. It was 6 p.m. in Silveren and it's too late to fly there now, be it a private plane or a normal plane. The distance was too long for that.
"I will return right in the morning. Until then, take good care of your mother. Please do that for me, son." The King was afraid that the hampered relationship of the mother and son would get in the way. He was so afraid that his wife would be there, lying sick and alone.
"Is that your father? Let me talk to him." The Prince's heard his mother's voice which made him darted his eyes to her. When was she awake?!
Without a protest, he gave the phone to his mother.
"Don't return now. Finish your business there first." Those were the words the Queen said as soon as she put the phone next to her ear. She knew her husband so well! She knows that he would try to return right away.
"But you came first. As soon as you get better, I can come here again and schedule another meeting." The King was talking about his due dinner with Yelena. Besides, meeting and getting to know his son's fiancee was his main purpose of visiting Silveren.
"Your Majesty, you know that I look forward to this matter more than anything else. I want to know the result as fast as possible. So, please wrap up things there first. I will be fine." The Queen calmly said with a low voice. Judging from the look on her eyes, it was evident that she was very tired.
"Okay then. I will do that." King Lawrence reluctantly agreed to his wife's wish. "Give the phone to our son."
The Queen gave the phone to Felix as his husband told her.
"Son, like I said before, look after -"
"I know, Father. It's been more than 4 hours ever since I got here and I didn't leave Mother's side even once. I will look after her. Don't worry." Felix reassured his father before the latter could even finish his words.
If there was just a single thing that the Prince would like to learn from his parents, it would be their love and respect for each other. They loved each other genuinely and respect each other's opinion. They may not be great parents but they indeed made an amazing married couple.
Even after almost 30 years of marriage, they were still happy and deeply cared for each other.
After he reassured his father, Felix's ended the call and turned his head to his mother. Then he sat beside her bed. A nurse was still next to the Queen, looking after her.
"You can rest now. I will do the rest." The Prince said to the nurse which made his mother raised a brow.
"Yes, Your Highness." The nurse bowed and then leave the room.
"Don't be too surprised. I'm quite good at looking after a patient. Did you forget that I was the one who looked after Yelena for two months when she was shot? I learned many things during those two months." Felix calmly said to his mother when he noticed her shock expression.
His words put the Queen in a daze. Throughout the 26 years in which she was a mother to this young man, she didn't recall herself looking after him personally whenever he was sick, not even once! Doctors and nurses would do all the work while she would simply sit next to him.
She watched as her only son soaked a cloth in the water, twist it and then placed it on her forehead. He took a small thermometer from the table next to the bed, put it inside her ear and check her temperature.
"Your fever is still there but it has gone down a lot," Felix said as he looked at the temperature displayed on the thermometer but his mother didn't say anything and only stared at him.
"Is something wrong, Mother?" He asked when he took a seat again.
"You have changed, don't you?" Queen Nicola muttered. She had sensed the difference in her son's nature. He was very different from what she remembered him but that somehow warmed up her heart. She used to thought that her son would never be able to change again! He might be distant and indifferent to her forever!
"Maybe. Things happened." Felix simply remarked.
"Your father told me that your lover is the one who made you change this way." The Queen said in a low voice.
"What changed was my father referring to?" Felix asked. He knows that he was quite different from what he used to be but what change was his parents referring to? He was not sure.
"You smile a lot these days." The Queen pointed out.
"She never stops giving me a reason to smile," Felix replied.
"You never skip your meals like you always did."
"She told me not to skip my meals." The Prince simply responded again.
"I never see you getting drunk these days."
"She forbids me from drinking. She said it will ruin my health." Felix answered without thinking much.
"Will you do everything she told you to do?" The Queen asked, disbelief was written on her face.
"Mother, she loves me and she only wants the best for me. Everything she said and told me to do are all out of love for me. So, what would I do aside from obeying?" Felix firmly said. "I don't want to disappoint her, ever." He muttered.
Hearing her only son's words, Queen Nicola was tight-lipped. She never knows that her son was capable of saying such things! Keeping her mouth shut for a while, she finally comes up with words to say.
"Son, I think you have become more considerate than before, especially towards me and your father." She paused for a second before saying, "Did she tell you to be more open to us?"
"No." Felix response came quicker than ever. "I never told her much about our family. She won't even know that we are different from other families." He was about to mention how their family went astray from each other but hold back himself. Instead, he covered it by saying that they were different from other families.
The Queen felt a pain in her heart though she knows that her son was saying the truth. They were not like this in the beginning. They also used to be one happy family despite all the attention and pressure they received from the media and the people. Though Felix used to be quite aloof and cold at that time, he was warm and friendly to his parents.
It went on that way until that young woman appeared in their life, that orphan named Cara Laria. Their happy family life was turned upside down and everything was a mess at that time. Then after she suddenly died, a huge crack was formed between the parents and the son which goes on until now.
The Queen used to thought that the crack was unmendable as it was too large and deep. But now, the sudden appearance of another young woman had started to slowly mend the crack in their family. The young woman whom she hadn't even met was capable of doing such things!
Queen Nicola didn't understand her husband when he decided to go to Silveren just to meet the woman who captured their son's heart. Was she worth it? She didn't think so. However, she didn't complain as she rarely goes against her husband's words.
But now, she was not sure anymore. Maybe she started to understand her husband's decision because as of now, she also felt the eagerness to meet this woman who caused a huge changed in their family! She wanted to know more about her.
"Mother." Her son's voice snapped the Queen out of her stupor. She realized that she was staring at her son the whole time!
Felix glanced at his mother with an amazed face, having no idea of what she was thinking.
"Oh!" The Queen turned her head away, feeling quite awkward and lost. She even felt embarrassed but when one thing crossed her mind, she tried to calm down and took a deep breath.
"After I recover, I want to meet this woman who you talked about non-stop. Do I also need to go to Silveren to meet her? If that's what it takes, then I will go." Never once did the Queen thought there would come a day when she would say those words! On top of that, voluntarily.....
