I’ve heard that in the beginning, knights mainly focus on their swordsmanship, but as they build up their skills, they begin to practice how to put mana in their swords.
Of course, Rosian hasn’t practiced swordsmanship at all, but his affinity for mana was relatively low when compared to Micheal, a genius, and Jayna, a member of the dragon tribe.
However Rosian seemed all right even when facing the stormy sea.
“Micheal-nim, I think you’ve gone too far…”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. Do you really think he’s going to die?”
Micheal’s nonchalant attitude seemed as if he really wanted Rosian to die.
Worried, Jayna grabbed his sleeve and said,
“Do you know how old His Highness Rosian is?”
“I know, my aunt knew how to cut a mountain when she was that old.”
“But that’s only possible because it was Her Highness Elia, who’s a master.”
“My aunt wasn’t a hero when I was young. And it was a time when princesses were criticized for their swordsmanship. He’s been too relaxed, he needs to toughen up.”
Jayna sighed. Micheal continued talking.
“Isn’t he Princess Elia’s son? Let’s have some expectations.”
“…Even if they’re mother and son, they’re two completly different people. Besides, Rosian is most uncomfortable with the gazes of others.”
“I know.”
“You already know?”
Jayna asked back in surprise. Michael unexpectedly had a serious face.
“You have to know how to overcome it when you have someone to protect. That’s what the ring means.”
Micheal, who was quietly mumbling to himself, grabbed Jayna’s shoulder with a bright face, as if he never did so.
[Q/N: ‘never did so’ refers to mumbling to himself]
“Come on, let’s play amongst ourselves. Let’s stop talking about him.”
Employees were standing and waiting alongside the path Micheal walked onto the mansion.
“Tonight, we’re going to have barbecue for dinner.”
Jayna and Micheal changed, and came outside to notice food already served on a table outside.
Jayna and Micheal changed and came out to see that the food was already served on a table outside.
I could see sizzling sausages, vegetables, and deliciously cooked steak.
As the sun went down, the moon lit the dark sky, and a cool breeze blew from the far away sea. Jayna closed her eyes and was greeted by the cold wind blowing from the dark sea.
‘I can’t believe there’s a violent storm right there…’
It couldn’t be seen from here, but lightning bolts were striking the sea where Rosian was training.
‘Micheal-nim’s magic is amazing…’
Jayna once again realized that Micheal wasn’t known as a genius for nothing.
“Hey what about you? The Tower Lord asked me to get a harpsichord for you. So, I asked my aunt to get one and she sent one of her lady-in-waiting’s relatives.”
Jayna, who was lost in thought, turned her head and looked at Micheal.
Micheal had an uncomfortable look on his face, as if he was troubled.
“If I had time, I would have done a background check to find the right person, as I was reluctant to choose someone based on their experience.”
Micheal grumbled and looked down at Jayna.
Jayna, knowing his concern, kept the problem to herself, then replied brightly.
“Yes, it’s going very well. She’s a very good person.”
[T/N: Lie 1000% lol]
“I’m glad to hear that.”
After, the two talked about various topics over dinner, then they went back to their rooms to prepare for the next day.
Back in her room, Jayna sat on a hammock placed at the side of the room.
The bed was good, but lying down on the hammock felt as if she was floating in the air. So, Jayna was very comfortable.
‘I wonder if Rosian is practicing well.’
Jayna opened the window and saw Rosian constantly practicing. If Micheal saw such a dangerous scene, he would laugh and say “You’re still not dying”.
‘I don’t even think you’ve had dinner…’
Jayna looked anxiously at where Rosian was and soon drew the curtains of her room.
* * *
The next morning.
Coming down from her room for breakfast, Jayna ran into Rosian, whose chin was on the table. She remembered seeing Rosian still practicing on the waves even though she had fallen asleep quite late.
“Your Highness, what time did you come in yesterday?”
“I did come in, but…”
Rosian had a drowsy face showing he hadn’t slept much. His eyes, which were always lively, were half-open, which seems somewhat sexy.
[T/N: He’s 12ish…]
[Q/N: Oh my, what am I reading…]
“You must have come in a little late.”
A low pitched-voice came from his mouth. Jayna looked at Rosian who was in such a state without saying a word. Rosian smiled and stood up from her seat, as if he could feel her worried gaze.
“I have something to show you.”
“What is it?” (Jayna)
“Okay, do I have to keep it a secret from Micheal-nim?”
Rosian winked and took Jayna to the beach.
“Your Highness skipped a meal, you have to…”
“Why are you asking me about that jerk? Tell him to take care of himself.”
Micheal, who had been on the beach since early morning, shook his hand at the servant’s report, and silently looked at Rosian and Jayna walking from afar.
‘I thought it was a waste of my talent, but since you resemble my aunt, maybe you have some grit.’
Although Jayna did not know this, Micheal was watching Rosian train with mana from the very beginning.
Micheal didn’t know what aspect of Jayna changed him, but unlike the past, Rosian was extremely enthusiastic.
He drowned dozens, no, hundreds of times in the ocean.
In the beginning, Rosian was clumsy, but he eventually learned how to properly use mana.
-Wow, that’s amazing!
Michael, who was watching Rosian holding his balance in the midst of the waves, flicked his fingers.
Splash!
The waves then got stronger, disturbing Rosian’s balance.
-Ugh!
However he managed not to fall over. Micheal grimaced at the sight.
“Hey, but if you weren’t confident you wouldn’t have gone to the beach, would you? Maybe you whipped yourself overnight.”
Rosian took Jayna by her hand to show her how he rode on waves using the wind.
“Hmm, I thought he was going to beg for mercy… it’s unexpected but I don’t mind even if he did not.”
Seeing him trying to protect someone who is younger than him, it seemed that he had some guts and wasn’t a bad person by nature.
He was just a bit delicate and had a little bit of desire to eat and play.
“Well that’s because I have to keep on trying…”
And that’s how Jayna’s trip for her tenth birthday ended.
***
After returning from the seaside, Jayna was surprised to see a large number of presents piled in her room.
“Well, what’s all of this for?”
“It is a birthday gift from His Highness the Crown Prince.”
[T/N: aka Rosian]
The maid handed over a small letter to her. She opened it and began to read it’s contents.
[I wanted to give it to you on your birthday, but I sent it in advance because the day overlaps with my grandfather’s birthday and it might arrive late. It’s never good to have presents given late, is it?]
It seemed as if she herself was hearing Rosian’s distinct way of speaking, a smile appeared on her face and she continued reading the letter.
[Miss Jayna said she doesn’t want anything, so I didn’t know what to send. Thus, I sent you everything. I wrote the list of the items below, so tell me if you like any of them. I’ll refer to it for your next birthday.]
Looking at the list, which was on the bottom of the letter, Jayna was speechless.
It consisted of an endless list of expensive items such as silk gloves, bonnets, jewelry and more.
Jayna felt overwhelmed and wanted to send all of it back, but she couldn’t as she was afraid Rosian would feel disappointed.
She was in a state of panic, looking at the gifts and lists alternatively. The maid standing next to her asked,
“My lady, is there an issue?”
“No, it’s just that the presents are so pretty…”
Each present was wrapped with a different type of ribbon and had fresh flowers.
“Yes, the presents look beautiful to me as well. How could His Highness have such good taste?”
The maid blushed and didn’t know what to do, she seemed to want Jayna to open the presents quickly.
‘Just in case, I’ll take the wrapping off carefully, and if it’s too expensive, I’ll send it back.’
“Can you help me unwrap the presents? I want them to be opened carefully so that the decorations don’t tear.”
“Oh, of course! Allow us to help you.”
As soon as those words were said, the maids clung to one another and began unwrapping the present.
The real flowers were carefully removed and put aside, the ribbons were then untied and the box was opened. Exclamations poured out from everywhere.
“Oh My!”
“Isn’t this the precious emerald only available for the royal family?”
“Look at these silk gloves. It’s soft to the touch, I want to wear them and attend a party.”
There weren’t any gifts that were not priceless. Jayna stared blankly at the jewels, gloves, a fan made of clamshells, sophisticated dolls and beautiful music boxes.
“My lady, this is the last box left, so please open it yourself.”
Jayna came to her senses at the words of the maid, and put her hands on the last present.
“This is…”
[It’s not much, but I sent you a snowball because Miss Jayna seemed to like the sea a lot. We can’t always go to the sea, so I hope your mind becomes calm when you look at the sea in the snow globe.]
The snowball contained the scenery she admired during her trip to the sea.
It had the shape of the sea with a reddish glow as the sun set below the horizon.
Looking at it, Jayna began to write a thank you note to Rosian.
