I start my jog immediately, the stares from everyone else don't bother me at all. I can see Baozi dramatically lying on the grass in the sun. His tongue lays outside his beak as if he's fainted. 'Dramatic bird.' His ċhėst is clearly rising and falling. Since he's not dead, he can survive this lesson.
POV CHANGE (Teacher pov)
As I watch the girl with silver hair run her ŀȧps without a sound of complaint I think to myself that I should definitely put her in my eye. I can tell that she will definitely be outstanding in the future, but the arrogance is too overwhelming. As a girl she should be more humble and reserved. Demure. However she is the complete opposite. It's a breathe of fresh air to say the least. I was growing tired of always having to see the faces of girls always looking as though they have been bullied. It appears that even when they breathe air it is a strenuous activity.
Then there's that Gazora girl. She's a free spirit. She and that Melia girl seem like they are close friends. Looks as though I won't be pairing them up often.
I can already tell that their seems to be a hidden hostility hidden beneath the fragile friendships these bath of students have made. This is perfect, more opportunities for me to punish the, breaking their last strands of hope and caging them in eternal hell. After all, isn't that with school is for?
That Akiko girl seems like the stubborn type. She had better not get into any more trouble or I won't be as lenient as I am this time.
"What the heck are you guys doing. I said straight form!!! Hey Mr. Prince do you have scoliosis!!! STRAIGHT I SAID!" Sigh, these kids don't follow instructions at all. They can bȧrėly keep their back straight while their mounts ride at top speed. How would they fair if they were in battle? They'd probably die by falling off their mounts before the enemy even got to them.
The shape shifters mostly need to know about how to multi task better and think under pressure. All thy care about is using brute force! Brute force won't save them every time, especially if the enemy is stronger and smarter.
Looks like I have my work cut out for me this year.
-----------------------------------------Change of POV (Back to Melia's POV)
I am on my fiftieth ŀȧp and she still hasn't looked at me to tell me to stop. I can feel the sweat drip down my body and I feel disgusted. Why didn't the school give us gym clothes for these type of classes?
I mostly stare at the ground to keep me distracted during my ŀȧps. My breathing is still even and steady and I can proudly say I am doing much better than Akiko, I can not even remember how many times she has stopped to catch her better. A sheltered princess she is indeed.
Her hair is glued to her face and she looks like a fish out of water. Even as she breathes for air they closely resemble a fish's movements as well. I kind of feel sorry for her. Oh well, she'll survive.
Finally as we were about to arrive at ŀȧp 100 the teacher shouts at us to stop and join the rest of the class in whatever exercise they are doing.
I see the black snake's eyes on me, sizing me up. A lot of people seem surprised at how good of a condition I am in despite running so many ŀȧps compared to Akiko. What can I say? I am special.
I hop on Baozi as I ask Ora to tell me what we have to do. Apparently we're working on our posture as we ride our mounts at full speed. While the shape shifters spar with each other, they have to use their brains to come up with calculations and secret moves to defeat their enemy. Sounds like fun. I never knew mount riding class entailed so much stuff.
"Well you heard what she said Baozi. Let's get started." Almost s if he is risen from the dead, the Baozi pulls his tongue back into his beak, as if he has been rejuvenated. I copy everyone's else movements and have Baozi zip to the end of the field at full speed, stop, go back at full speed and repeat the process.
It isn't hard for me to quickly get the hang of it as I've rode Baozi now for over two hundred years. The whiplash however is hard to get used too. After about ten trips my neck is starting to feel sore. I have to keep my lower abdominal muscles flexed to keep my body steady and hold my back straight. In my mind I look like a pencil, however in others view I look like a majestic warrior princess covered in a general's war halo. I like the latter better in my opinion.
"OKAY EVERYONE STOP!!! It's time for a water break. Get your lazy ȧsses to the café to receive the refreshments prepared.
"I'm SAVED!" Baozi exaggeratedly announces. I roll my eyes at his antics, his behavior doesn't seem to have lessened over these years. In fact, it has gotten worse. Attention-seeker.
(Third person writing)
Baozi thinks differently. He's just happy to have a master after going so many years living in the space all alone by his self. This little bit of attention he's getting is enough to keep him happy for another century, he thinks. He's so thankful for his master. Baozi will do anything to keep his master from leaving him. He doesn't want to be alone again. It's nice having someone to care about him. To the point that she gave him a name. All of Baozi's other master's just treated him as their possession, telling him what he's supposed to and once he's out stayed his use they just ignore him, treating him like air. He's never had a master as nice as Melia before. Baozi hopes Melia never gets to the point where she treats him like air. To the point where he's ignored.
