Yue Tingfeng looked at the time. It was already past ten in the morning, the weather was getting hotter. He could feel the heat even when he was seated in the shade.

Yue Tingfeng looked ahead. Yan Qingsi was standing under the sun and she was holding the script to memorize her lines while the make-up artist touched up her make-up.

Yan Qingsi seemed like she did not care about the heat despite standing under the sun with such thick costume. Yue Tingfeng sighed. She did not need to do this, but… it seemed like she will never learn how to depend on others.

Director Feng got everyone in their positions. This was a scene in the garden and there were more actresses involved. Director first asked for one test shot as group shots were usually hard to be achieved in one go.

Yan Qingsi looked at Zeng Keren. What was she trying to say just now with that hesitant look of hers?

The shoot was about to begin. Yan Qingsi did not think much of it. She put her script away and found her position in front of the camera.

The scene was a walk in the garden. The Empress was to lead a group of concubines to walk around the Royal Garden and there were three women in one scene. So many women were together and secretly plotting against each other but on the surface, they had to put on a facade of being friendly with one another.

After a few minutes, the director shouted ‘Cut!’ after Zhao Wenqi messed up her lines.

Zhao Wenqi seemed guilty. She kept bowing before everyone while apologizing, “Sorry, sorry, I’m really sorry everyone. I got nervous and messed up my lines, so sorry…”

Her apology was sincere, it seemed like she felt really guilty. On top of that, since it was a group scene, it was normal to not get it right the first time. No one said anything about it, not even the director.

Yan Qingsi stood next to the Empress and used her sleeves as fans. She was not sure if her head felt heavy because of not sleeping under the blanket last night. She only wished to be done with the scene as soon as possible.

After the director adjusted the cameras, everyone started from the top.

The concubines who were standing at the back started falling on top of each other after someone stepped on another’s dress.

The director cut the scene again. “What is wrong with you guys?”

“Sorry, sorry, the dress is too long, we… I accidentally stepped on it. Sorry, everyone, sorry director, we will be careful…”

It was not unusual for this to happen. The director did not get mad and went on with the third take.

Yan Qingsi rubbed on the sweat on her forehead. The sunlight made her head feel heavier and her steps lighter.

On the third take, the scene was cut after Lu Yunyun’s sleeve was torn apart by a tree branch.

On the fourth take, one of the actresses sneezed while reading her lines.

This group scene had gone on from around 10am till 12pm. Apart from Yan Qingsi, Zeng Keren, and the Empress, everyone had messed up one way or another.

The director was mad. He had said that whoever messes up three times in one scene will be kicked out. However, everyone present today had only messed up a maximum of two times. No one made it to three.
