Chapter 519: Jessie

City of Miracles.

It was a holy place for Mages, Mystics, and even Warlocks. Unlike all other cities in Edhen World, not a single Church building could be seen inside this floating city.

The entire city was devoted to Magic, and it was one of the remnant cities that belonged to the Ancient Era. There were more than 30 million people residing in this city, and it was considered the largest city in the whole world.

As Charles stepped down from the airship, he skimmed through the basic information he had read about in the past and soon shook his head.

'I hope Jessie gathered enough information.' He thought to himself, followed the other passengers, and soon entered the large half-egg-shaped building.

But just as he stepped in, he suddenly felt an eerie feeling coming out of nowhere and halted his footsteps.

'Why am I feeling threatened?' His heart raced all of a sudden.

[It must be due to the magic arrays, Host. You can see them using [Eyes of the Runes] skill.] Genesis responded in his head.

'Wouldn't that alert the security? You told me not to use my skills unnecessarily, right?' Charles couldn't help but ask in suspicion.

[Casting identification skill on array circles or formation circles won't alert the security.]

'Oh?' Nodding, Charles activated his [Eyes of the Runes] and looked at the surrounding walls, floor, and ceiling. The next instant, he saw that a very complex system of magic arrays appeared all over the places and was momentarily stunned inside. Some magic array circles had loop-like circles with strange patterns, some had flower-like designs inside, and some arrays even appeared in square or rectangle shapes.

What shocked him more was that he was standing on two mysterious array circles at that moment!

Although they were in an inactive state, he knew that it would activate on its own as long as the array circle met its criteria!

Charles cautiously glanced at the long hallway that appeared before his eyes and continued to walk with careful steps.

After walking for a few minutes, Charles and others entered a large tall-ceiling hall and noticed different kinds of suitcases, trolleys, and even sealed boxes placed there.

'Luggage counter, huh.' Charles stepped into the hall and soon squinted as he saw a unique array circle that placed four meters away from where he was standing.

At that moment, he saw that the array circle was shining in reddish light but soon realized no one was paying attention to it.

Curiously, he deactivated the [Eyes of the Runes] skill and realized it was invisible to naked eyes!

'Hmm? But why is it glowing in red color?' Charles asked with a frown and soon walked past the array circle.

[There are two reasons, Host. One is that the array circle must have met its requirement and is about to activate, but I don't think that's the case. I highly suspect that this array circle has been damaged continuously for a long time and is on the verge of breaking down. As long as one fulfils the criteria, it will activate on its own and cause damage to the surroundings.] Genesis said in the same tone as always.

'It can cause damage? You mean explosion?'

[Yes, Host. Most of the arrays placed in this building are for security purposes. Some would activate on their own when sensing unstable emotions, a few would activate when a person steps on them to check his name and identity, and there must be even some array circles out there for scanning souls. The Host should leave this building sooner.]

Charles's lips twitched as he heard those words.

Nodding, he continued to move towards the next hall and showed his identification and airship ticket towards the securities. Then, they asked him to erase his soul imprint in his space ring and even searched the content inside.

Thankfully, Charles left the pocket dimension pendant and other artifacts in the Rebirth Tower and didn't attract anyone's attention. After a minute of long check-up, they returned the space ring to him and let him walk away. As for the secret fake potion vial Runeth gave him, the security mage thought of the potion as normal water and didn't inquire further.

Charles then adjusted his dress, took out a pocket watch from his space ring, and walked towards the airport's exit with a calm expression on his face.

By the time Charles walked out of the airport, it was around 6.55.

Soon, he took a deep breath and looked at the thousands of people standing at the entrance. Some were holding nameplates next to the exit, while many were looking here and there for their loved ones.

Charles also searched for any familiar face among the crowd and soon saw a young lady standing at the farther end.

Her long hair and elegant dress showed off her beauty, and she kept her back turned away from him. She was dressed in a beautiful, long red-colored long gown and held a black, high-quality purse on her side. She had emerald-green eyes, whirly blonde hair, a pretty oval face, and thin eyebrows. Even though it was just a decade ago since he saw her up front, she had already grown into a beautiful lady and appeared more attractive.

'Oh!' A smile appeared on his face as he saw Jessie.

He then took a step forward and walked in her direction. At that moment, Jessie also noticed his gaze and hurriedly walked towards him while lifting her even gown from sweeping the ground.

Within a few seconds, Charles arrived before her and greeted her with a smile.

"Hello!"

"Greetings, Mr. Charles," Jessie also greeted him in return and then added.

"I already got our carriage ready at the parking lot. Shall we go now?"

'Oh? She seems to be in a hurry.' Although Charles was puzzled a little, he quietly nodded and followed her.

Both soon moved towards the parking lot next to the airport building and saw hundreds of horse-drawn carriages parked in lines. Some were old with wooden wheels, while the rest were luxurious carriages with metal-covered wheels and large enclosed bodies.

The vast parking lot was covered by rows and rows of towering trees, many different kinds of fruit plants, and foliage, and the atmosphere was one of tranquility.

The duo walked past the trees, horses, and parked carriages and soon arrived near a luxurious four-wheeled carriage.

The carriage was very elegant and appeared a little out of fashion but still elegant. The body was covered with black wood and placed with a golden, large, and oval headlamp that had a big bulb. It was a black-colored light that resembled a star.

The carriage also had four seats inside, covered with leather, and the wheels were shiny and appeared in good condition.

As Charles walked closer towards the carriage, Jessie moved forward, hurriedly put her hand on the carriage door's handle, and opened the door for him.

"Please enter, Mr. Charles.." She said in a solemn tone.
