The fishing village would typically have taken two hours to get to, but, Yun Qin slowed them down treating a severely injured Yan Cangyue, and it took them six hours to arrive.
The fishing village was far from other towns in the kingdom. The people were honest, hardworking and kind fishers, living off the sea. Yun Canglan and her three companions were welcomed by a smiling old mayor who spared a room for them.
Yun Qin cleaned the wounds for Yan Cangyue and made sure his injuries were dressed. Afterward he gave Yun Lie a serious talk on his limitations and what to expect. They couldn't continue their journey over water that evening, so they spent the night in the village.
The small room of the old mayor had two simple twin sized beds. Yun Qin, Yun Qi and Yun Lie had to sleep in the lobby on the floor. Inside the room, Yun Canglan and Yan Cangyue each had a bed. They were not far away from each other.
Yan Cangyue had passed out and not regained consciousness until sometime around midnight, when he started muttering hoarsely, "Water …water…"
Yun Canglan rolled over and went on sleeping.
"Water …I need water…water…"
Yun Canglan found some cotton and stuck a piece in each ear, muffling his cries and continued sleeping.
"Water …uuhh…it hurts…I want some water…"
Yun Canglan sat up in a rush glaring at a half-conscious Yan Cangyue.
"Water …Please....I need water…"
Reluctantly, Yun Canglan got out of bed and scratched her head. She walked to the battered old square table and poured a cup of tea from the teapot.
"Here you go."
Yun Canglan put her arm out for him to take the cup, but Yan Cangyue didn't move. She looked back and saw him laying in the bed, ghostly pale. The blood had been cleaned, giving him a helpless look, rather than his usual air of arrogance. He couldn't see a cup in Yun Canglan's hand, he could barely make her out. He squinted hard trying to make out who or what was in front of him, and whether he was dreaming or awake.
Yun Canglan was becoming more impatient by the second, and wanted to get back to sleep. In order to get back to bed faster, she decided to sit on Yan Cangyue's bed since he couldn't get up. She plopped herself onto the bed and cradled his head against her shoulder. She held the cup to his dry lips, tipping it so the cool tea slid down his throat slowly.
'Not bad, at least he can swallow. What would happen if he couldn't?'
A half-conscious Yan Cangyue smelled the familiar sc
them!
"Feng Yun'er, you may have saved me, but you can't just do whatever you like to me."
Yun Canglan stopped wiping her hand, astounded by his reaction. She asked as she stared at him, "You're not asking me to marry you like a woman, are you?"
Yan Cangyue sat up straighter asking, "Don't you think you at least owe me an explanation?" 'About why you slept in my bed.'
But Yun Canglan misunderstood him, and told him, "Fine, fine. What do you want? From now on, I will be responsible for your life." Thinking, 'I will help you to become the Emperor of the Chi Kingdom. It won't matter, I will take the Chi Kingdom sooner or later anyway.'
"You…You…" Yan Cangyue's blush deepened with rage. His tattered clothes left his collarbone and the red feather like a bud extending below his neck exposed.
Yun Canglan narrowed her eyes as she involuntarily reached for his collarbone and she stroked the feather with her forefinger. Yan Cangyue felt her cool touch, her bold behavior shocked him more.
He could smell the faint aroma of a Red Spider Lily, he thought it as a delusion.
After quite a while, Yun Canglan pulled her fingers back and got up off the bed. She offered Yan Cangyue solace, telling him, "Don't worry. Nothing happened." 'His feather is the same, it hasn't stretched yet.'
As the shock wore off, Yan Cangyue felt an aching void of sadness. He looked up at Yun Canglan with dull eyes and an unreadable expression.
"Yun Lie will escort you back to the Chi Kingdom. Whether you are to be the Emperor or not, that is where you should be. We go our separate ways here, I am leaving. Remember, you owe your life to me now."
