Ki Sai Wing seemed to be contemplating something. He was not an old fashioned person; those companies never made it over the hill and had faded away already. There was a reason why he could lead Ki Industries to where it was today.
‘There’s something in there that you wish to pursue.’
Ki Shing Chi nodded and replied, ‘Yes.’
‘You’re serious about it.’
‘Yes.’
Ki Sai Wing sneered and said, ‘Why are you so sure you’re serious? For so many years, you haven’t been serious about a single thing. Don’t think that I don’t know you. You only put up an outstanding performance in the company because of your identity as heir, the same goes for your studies. Even the girlfriends that you’ve brought back, you were never serious about them. Now you’re saying you’re serious about a game?’
Ki Shing Chi turned silent. He then said, ‘I will prove it to you.’
Ki Sai Wing turned his chair around and gazed down at the view hundreds of storeys below him through the floor-to-ceiling window.
‘I’ll be waiting. If I find out that you give up again, you better settle down and act like Ki Industries’ successor. Our family is not short on money, I can afford to let you become a wastrel. But bear this in mind: if you’re going to be a wastrel, waste yourself away like you really mean it, from head to toe. This is our style, the Ki family’s style.’
Hearing Ki Sai Wing’s weird theory, Ki Shing Chi wasn’t surprised at all. They had come to some sort of understanding between them after spending years together as family. He let out a sigh, a heavy burden finally off his back. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
‘Thank you, dad.’
Hearing his son call him ‘Dad’, Ki Sai WIng shuddered on his chair. ‘Go.’
Ki Shing Chi made a slight bow and left the room, leaving behind Ki Sai Wing who stared at the window in a daze.
The moment Ki Shing Chi left the room, his butler silently trailed behind him. The two walked for a while when Ki Shing Chi suddenly turned around and smiled at his butler.
‘Uncle Chan, how long have you been under our family?’
The butler, Uncle Chan, was startled momentarily as he took out his notebook and gave a precise answer. ‘Thirty two years, six months, and twenty one days.’
Ki Shing Chi grinned and said, ‘Uncle Chan, let’s spar when I get stronger. You can probably knock me down within 10 seconds now, right?’
He then casually jogged away, leaving behind Uncle Chan who was absolutely baffled.
‘Master, is it fine to leave the young master alone?’ Uncle Chan looked at Ki Sai Wing and asked in a low voice.
Ki Sai Wing waved his hand and replied, ‘Let him be. I never had to worry about that kid, he’s so calm and composed that it’s almost scary. I’m relieved that he’s rebellious, really. What happened to him?’
Uncle Chan’s tone sounded somewhat odd as he said, ‘The young master… is improving rapidly. He couldn’t even sense my strength back then, but he can now catch a glimpse of it. It has only been a few weeks.’
‘It’s alright, you don’t have to worry about that. I can keep the company afloat for another decade, let him have some fun for once.’
Ki Shing Chi re-entered his game pod, this time with an entirely different feeling. He could finally set his mind to the game and fully immerse himself in it. He was no longer the heir of Ki Industries, just Ki Shing Chi. No, he was Sasaki, the successor of Sasaki Kojirou!
Back in the game, Zephyrwolf immediately bade his squadmates farewell after they returned to Yoda and rushed over to find the instructor for his class progression.
The coordinates were outside the city, the place where the Demon Wolf Cave used to be. At the desolate forest, a person was waiting for Zephyrwolf.
‘Kiddo, it’s you?’ The person was a bit confused as he stared at Zephyrwolf.
However, Zephyrwolf was even more confused. The person was dressed weirdly: his upper body was naked, while some sort of beast skin was tied around his lower body. He also had tribal face paints all over his face, which only looked even more eerie.
‘Hey kiddo, stop spacing out! Summon the demon wolf’, the person yelled. He was in a heightened state of alertness, looking as though he would strike Zephyrwolf down immediately if Zephyrwolf couldn’t summon the demon wolf.
‘Kay.’ Zephyrwolf then summoned his demon wolf king.
The person was visibly shaken upon seeing the demon wolf king. He took a few steps forwards and extended his hand in an attempt to touch the demon wolf king, but all he received was its growl while baring its teeth.
He took a deep breath and waved his arm, a bright flash forming at his palm. A larger demon wolf appeared out of nowhere. Its presence alone was enough to make the demon wolf king whine and hide its massive body behind Zephyrwolf, like a dog seeking protection from its owner.
‘I’m Wolver, the last successor of our Wolf Tamer Tribe. And you’re the next one.’ Wolver was psyched as he said, ‘To become a true member of the Wolf Tamer Tribe, a true Demon Wolf Hero, you have to complete the following quests.’
‘Quest received: Demon Wolf Hero class progression.’
In the chat room, everyone was speechless while listening to Zephyrwolf’s rant; his quests were too difficult for real.
‘Quest 1: Slay the runaway wolves.
As the Wolf Tamer Tribe, maintaining our reign over wolves is our duty. It is discovered that wolves that have been infested by miasma are slaughtering the innocent. Head over to the Highlands of John and kill 100 demon wolves. Must be completed alone.’
‘Quest 2: Find the missing wolven totem.
The ability to communicate with demon wolves is an essential skill of the Wolf Tamer Tribe. After you find the totem, it will tell you what to do. There is a certain chance that the totem will drop when you kill any demon wolven monsters.’
Drako Yau immediately gave an accurate evaluation of Zephyrwolf’s quest. ‘The most difficult quest is Quest 2. If you’re unlucky, you could kill 10,000 demon wolves without getting the totem to drop.’
‘Sigh…’ As a veteran gamer, Zephyrwolf also realised it at once; it was basically a quest which tested his luck. Quest 1 was by no means easy either. He had to kill 100 demon wolves alone, at the Highlands of John, a Level 20+ levelling zone no less.
‘Don’t be so frustrated. The more difficult the progression quests are, the more powerful your class will be. Dan, what were your class progression quests?’
Danting quickly replied, ‘Solo clear the Demon City dungeon at Hell difficulty, kill the skeleton king, and kill 100 skeleton swordsmen. Now that I think of it, it’s a lot easier than his.’
It was Zephyrwolf’s turn to be at a loss for words. Solo clearing the Demon City at Hell difficulty is easy? Easy my ass!
Zephyrwolf was Level 20 now, but he would definitely die if he tried to challenge the dungeon alone. Did Danting really have to piss him off further?
‘Boss, what about yours?’ Zephyrwolf kind of hoped that Drako Yau’s class progression quest was crazier than his.
‘I haven’t picked it up yet. Gonna sell some equipment and get rid of some trash in my item bag, then get some sleep. I’ll go when I wake up.’
‘Ah…’ Zephyrwolf was a bit disappointed. ‘Then I’ll go to rest as well… The nightmare begins tomorrow…’ (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
The group then left the game for the night, leaving behind Greenstone who stayed with Drako Yau.
Drako Yau auctioned Nun’s Sigh at the trade centre for a decent price as he thought, I better start earning some money to pay these guys. Can’t just burn through my reserves!
He then took out every single piece of junk he could find in his item bag and sold them all. Even a single dollar was still money!
