‘Haha, Mask’s invitation. Sky Dominion will participate!’ Sky Chun was very quick to react. The moment Drako Yau finished his sentence, Sky Chun shot up from his seat and accepted the invitation right away.
Hades shot a glance at Sky Chun, then nodded and said, ‘Count Underworld in.’
Even though Zephyrwolf, the guild master of Howl of the Tempest Wolves, was working under Drako Yau, he still had to play his part as guild master when there were outsiders. He slapped his chest and said, ‘Howl of the Tempest Wolves will join!’
Dakki said calmly, ‘Allurers will also join.’
King Zau turned pale upon hearing Dakki’s answer. ‘Dakki… You…’
‘I said, Allurers will join.’ Dakki had a chilly expression as she looked at King Zau. ‘Do you have anything to say about it?’
As the guild master, Dakki also had her dignity and pride, or else it’d have been difficult to grow her guild to what it was today. She was getting a bit irritated after King Zau barged in with his words so many times.
Sensing Dakki’s displeasure, King Zau bit his lips and went off in a huff, which only infuriated Dakki even further. She was Allurers’ guild master; he actually dared to leave like that with everyone present?
Hades stayed in his seat and chuckled without saying anything. However, the chuckle only served to tick Dakki off.
‘Brother Mask, this lady shall take her leave now. See you tomorrow.’ Leaving those words behind, Dakki wasn’t in the mood to linger any longer and hurriedly left. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
‘See you, auntie!’ Danting waved his hand like a good boy. He had a good impression of the charming auntie, though Dakki halted her step for a moment upon hearing his farewell.
Sky Chun also stood up and left with his men after giving Drako Yau a salute.
Stealing the game’s first world boss was a great ordeal.
After Allurers and Sky Dominion left, everyone who stayed behind was in the same camp. While Underworld is an independent guild, Mask’s group and Hades’ Underworld had a close and friendly relationship after the Siege event.
‘Hey, crazy bastard, it’s not as easy as you think to steal a boss among thousands of players. Are you really that confident?’ Hades asked.
Despite acknowledging Drako Yau’s strength, Hades knew it was no individual fight this time round. When several thousand players gathered, just the ranged players alone could kill Drako Yau no less than 10 times if they each shot a basic attack at him.
Quality couldn’t compensate for quantity when it reached a certain threshold. Drako Yau might be able to win a 1-versus-5 or 1-versus-10, but it was impossible for him to go up against 1,000 or 10,000 players alone; that was beyond any human being’s capability.
Hades didn’t feel optimistic about their operation at all.
Drako Yau made a rare smile as he said, ‘I have a method. I didn’t explain it just now as there were outsiders. After all, more mouths meant a higher chance of leaking intel. I’ll explain tomorrow’s arrangements now.’
At 5:30 pm the next day, the Highlands of John was filled with players. Thousands of player IDs and tightly packed heads formed a unique drawing when looking from above.
In the innermost circle, there were various groups consisting of different guilds. Ordinary players dared not to intrude upon the groups formed by first rate and second line guilds.
Dark World, Hotblooded, Corrupted Officials, Riverfront Pavilion, Bloodrain… Famous guilds which didn’t often make an appearance all gathered there today.
It was the first world boss! If they defeated it, the fame alone was their guilds’ greatest reward, let alone the in-game rewards it dropped. What gave guilds their strength? Players, similar to how a country’s power stemmed from its people. When the people prosper, the country prospers.
The same went for guilds. Fame and strength was the way to attracting powerful players to join their ranks. A while back, plenty of players had the impression that Allurers was a powerful guild and decided to join it because of the ‘Heroes Who Scare Off Nin’ title. The pretty ladies in the guild also played a part though…
And now, the guild which was first to defeat the bear king would become so famous that players would flood into the guild, enough to push the guild’s ranking up by several ranks. No guild could simply ignore an attractive bait like the bear king.
There could only be one winner, but anyone could hope that they would get lucky. Some players even thought that stealing the last hit was the chance to propel themselves up the ranks to become pro players.
This was also Real World’s appeal. Encounter quests could change an ordinary player into a pro in no time. Windstrider’s Dual Magazine and Idyllic Poet’s Phoenix Ring were treasures which allowed them to reach heaven at a single bound. Of course, they both had outstanding techniques to back them up as well.
Time flew by. After the guild masters sent one another a glance, a person said, ‘We hereby invite everyone to join our expedition to slay the bear king. It is an opportunity for any and everyone. We’ll make this clear now: no matter which squad gets the final kill, we will not blame or hold them responsible. It’s the first world boss, let’s get off to a good start.’
The person was none other than Dark World’s guild master, Moonless Night. He was extremely adept in battle, and his class was Necromancer, a hidden class. Already at Level 25, he also ranked top 10 in the Arena on Ranked battles. Both his strength and equipment were top tier.
Hearing someone as powerful as Moonless Night make such a humble statement made everyone nod their heads. Some even cheered for him.
Moonless Night was clearly satisfied with how everything turned out. He looked at the other guild masters and asked, ‘Shall we start then?’
The big shots gave each other one last glance then nodded.
They started mobilising. A group of scouts had been tailing the bear king the entire time to keep track of its location. The group consisted mainly of warriors, rangers, and assassins.
Warriors had Dash to increase their movement speed, granting them great mobility. As for rangers and assassins, they both had the Invisibility skill. Rangers also had another Level 20 skill, Hawkeye Snipe, which increased their vision and attack range together with the Level 10 passive hunter skill Farsight, a must-have for all rangers. Under the effect of these two skills, rangers had the greatest attack range and vision among the four basic classes, making them the best choice for scouts. Soon, the bear king was within their sights. They could already see it from afar, but as they approached it, the oppressive aura it gave off made players who saw it for the first time shudder.
With a height of ten metres, players probably couldn’t even reach the bear king’s ankles when standing next to it. It was turquoise in colour, while its skin was patchy and seemed to be put together by smaller pieces, similar to sewn patches. Some were purple, some had fur, some were bare—it was simply horrendous.
It had the ferocious face of a bear, but one of its eyes was sewn together by tightly packed fibres. On its left ear, there was a one-metre-long screw. The screw pierced through its skull into its brain, leaving a dried pool of blood at the entry wound.
That was the game’s first world boss, the Failed Rampaging Bear King!
