Mo Liuxi was disappointed. He hadn’t had it for days. He had been looking forward to it since the night before.

“Why did you sleep so late last night?” he asked.

“I was writing lyrics for Director Li’s new film,” Yan Su said with a yawn.

“Let me have a look.” Mo Liuxi stepped into the house.

Yan Su recalled his advice from the night before, so she willingly showed him what she wrote. She went to wash up and brush her teeth while he read her work.

Mo Liuxi briefly scanned through the lyrics. There were markings and annotations all over the paper, but he could tell that she was a sensitive artist. She grasped the crucial points he had mentioned and wrote the lyrics poetically.

“What do you think?” Yan Su poked her head out of her toilet as she was brushing her teeth. Her eyes were hopeful.

“It’s still lacking if you want to compete against Ye Yunyang and Pei Wei.” Mo Liuxi stood up to pour himself some milk.

Yan Su spat out her toothpaste and asked, “How did you know that they were my competitors?”

Mo Liuxi paused with the cup in his hand and calmly replied, “I chatted with some of my friends in the industry and heard about it.”

Yan Su didn’t doubt him. She asked, “Which part is lacking?”

“Beg me.” Mo Liuxi looked over at her.

Yan Su inhaled sharply and said, “I think you’re drinking my milk.”

She thought, How can he ask her to beg him when he was at my place drinking my milk? What kind of person is he?

“Hmm, I was pouring you some milk, so I poured myself a cup as well,” Mo Liuxi matter-of-factly said.

“Well, I really have to thank you then,” Yan Su said as she gritted her teeth.

If not for the fact that he gave her some advice the night before, she really wanted to chase him out of her house with a broom.

“You’re welcome.” Mo Liuxi laughed as he watched her cheeks angrily puff up. “Forget it, on the account that we’re good neighbors, I’ll tell you. Your lyrics are too artistic and abstract. People might not relate to it.”

“Director Li has quite a similar sense of artistic direction,” Yan Su said. “I’ve listened to the theme songs of his films in the past…”

“He used to be like that, but his tastes have changed over the years,” Mo Liuxi said. He watched as Yan Su’s eyes lit up.

“You know Director Li?” Yan Su looked at him with newfound respect.

“Is that strange? The circle is only this big after all. I won’t help you with my connections though. You should earn the gig by your own virtue.” Mo Liuxi turned and took a sip of milk.

“I didn’t ask you to help me,” Yan Su said with a pout. “Will you put me down?”

Mo Liuxi was upset. “Why would I do that for? Think what you want of me.”

He ignored her after that and sat down to eat his breakfast.

When Yan Su changed and walked into the living room, he was already gone. There was a cup of milk for her on the table, but it had gone cold.

Over the next few days, Yan Su was focused on writing the song. Sometimes when Mo Liuxi walked past the music classroom, he would see her playing the guitar alone in the studio.

Once when he walked by, Yan Su stopped him and asked, “Do you want to hear the song?”

“Do you want me to give you advice?” Mo Liuxi asked. He proudly walked and pulled a chair to sit opposite her. He sat with his legs crossed. “Play then.”

Yan Su closed her eyes and ignored how arrogant he looked. She started playing the guitar.

A ray of sunlight fell on her black hair as she peacefully sang the song. Her head was lowered, and her face was pale and pretty. Her lashes turned golden as they caught the sun’s rays. Her lips were moving gracefully as she sang the song with her beautiful voice.
