Says who?” Nian Xi frowned slightly.

“I heard from someone at school. Rumor has it you’ve arrested a suspect.”

Jiang Yuning didn’t remember the name of that person.

“Ah. You’re talking about Zhao Yi.” Nian Xi figured it out.

Jiang Yuning shook his head and responded honestly, “I’m not sure. I only remember your name.”

Nian Xi smiled and said, “He is suspicious indeed but hasn’t confessed yet. If we can’t find solid evidence, his family is gonna hire a lawyer and the case will go to court. He might be acquitted of a charge. That’s why I came here today to see Duan Yang’s dorm.”

“I’m going with you.” Jiang Yuning immediately raised his chin and puffed his chest out and said, “I know where it is. I’ll take you there.”

Nian Xi knew how easily he could get lost, but she didn’t say no.

They drove straight to the men’s residence hall.

Duan Yang lived in room 402 with three other students.

Nian Xi walked to the room and knocked on the door. A while later, a bare-chested guy opened the door and gasped.

“Hi…” Before Nian Xi could finish, Jiang Yuning abruptly stepped in front of her and blocked her sight with his body. He was frowning.

“What are you doing?” Nian Xi was confused.

“He’s not wearing a shirt.” Jiang Yuning furrowed his brows and said a little unhappily, “You can’t look at him.”

Nian Xi paused briefly. It was the first time he was being so bossy. Seeing the look on his face, she had an impulse to laugh.

‘So old-school.’ She thought. ‘It’s just a young guy without a shirt on. We’re not ancient people.’

The guy smiled and said, “Officer Nian. Your boyfriend’s quite bossy.”

Hearing the young guy refer to him as Nian Xi’s boyfriend, Jiang Yuning sneakily gave a smile.

Nian Xi didn’t feel awkward. She had asked this student some questions earlier. He was Hu Hao, from the department of chemistry. Jiang Yuning was a guest professor from the department of physics, so it was normal that Hu Hao didn’t know him.

“It’s cold out. You should put on some clothes, or you might catch a cold.”

“I was taking a shower.” Hu Hao quickly got dressed. After that, Jiang Yuning stepped away from the door. But he still kept his eyes in the dorm in case another half-naked guy suddenly appeared.

“Are you here alone?” Nian Xi walked in while looking around. Duan Yan’s bed had been stripped and all his personal belongings had been removed. The room was messy, though. The other beds were covered with dirty socks and underwear.

Looking at the messy room, she frowned slightly. As a policewoman, she had seen a lot worse.

Jiang Yuning frowned deeper than she did. He silently walked to the nearest bed and lifted the blanket covering a pile of underwear on the bed.

“We’re all single. Yeah. Our place is a mess,” Hu Hao explained embarrassedly.

Nian Yuning turned to Nian Xi and whispered, “I’m single too, but I’m clean and tidy.”

His voice was warm and nice. While speaking, he breathed on Nian Xi’s ear. That didn’t make her feel itchy but did bring numbness to her entire body.

She took a deep breath to calm herself down, then glared at Jiang Yuning. How could he say something like that to her while she was working?

Receiving that glare from her, Jiang Yuning sadly turned around to look at a desk.

Nian Xi saw his lips curving downward, looking so adorable.

She adjusted herself before turning to Hu Hao and saying, “Has Duan Yan’s family collected all his belongings?”

“Yeah,” said Hu Hao nodding. “It’s really sad. How come he’s suddenly gone? He and Zhao Yi never liked each other. They often argued about their studies.”
