The reason why Drakos was fighting Seron to the death was because they were at a Knights tournament and clearly the Phoenix Kingdom doesn't care if young knights kill each other. If you were to win then you would quickly be enter into the Knights Guard/ Knights Branch(Have to give it a name) which is the main core of the army of Phoenix Kingdom. So Drakos was there gain some prize money and get more money joining the Knights Army. If you have any other questions let me know.
