10 Hogwarts; the sorting P.2

(Lorkhan's pov)

Arriving in front of a giant wooden door, Hagrid knock onto the door,

"The firs' years, Professor McGonagall," Hagrid said.

"Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here." Said the Professor, then she proceed to opened the entrance door widely.

When we enter the room, it was…. How do I say it? It was Spectacular. Large stone walls were lit by thousand and thousands of torches. The ceilings was so high up, it was hard to say how high it was. Long and short stairs alike was made out of sparkling marble, facing them led to the upper stairs. I look around and saw the student were all to amazed to even payed attention to where they were going, some even got slapped by a moving pillar.

We followed the Professor across the flagged stone floor. When we got close enough I could hear the loud roars of cheering and the like, behind the gigantic wall in front of us.

The Professor stopped and turn around facing us.

"Welcome to Hogwarts" she said "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room." she stop for a moment to scan the entire student, then continued "The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rulebreaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours" she turn back then said over her shoulder "The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting." Then she proceed in leaving the chamber. I couldn't see it for sure nor prove it, but I swear I saw her smirking at the few of us students. But since it wasn't me nor Lauren, I guess I could care less.

As we were waiting, I could hear one of the student with red hair conversing with another student with glasses

"How exactly do they sort us into the houses?"

"Some sort of a test, I think. Fred said it hurts a lot but I think he was joking"

The glass kid gave out a horrible jolt.

Test was it? If that's the case, what kind of test? He (Lauren) would be able to do it right?

As I was in deep thoughts, I heard few screams from behind. I turned my head only to find somewhere around twenty ghost's, White pearly ghost's.

"Forgive and forget, I say, we ought to give him a second chance--"

"My dear Friar, haven't we give peeves all the chances he deserves? He gives us all a bad name and you know, he's not even a ghost-" he paused and took notice of us "I say what are you all doing here?"

I was already used to it, but it doesn't seem to be the case for most of the students. I looked back and saw Their face was as pale as the ghosts. I wanted to laugh, but remembering the past where I first met Mr. Lockwick, well let's just say, My reaction…., It was far worst.

Nobody answered the ghost

"New students!" One of the ghost says "About to be sorted I suppose?"

I move my head to where Lauren was to ask what I should do, but, who would have thought, he was trying his best to hide himself. 'Is he that afraid of ghosts?' I ask myself

"Hope to see you in Hufflepuff!" said the ghost "My old house you know." as he quickly pass through the solid door.

"Move along now," Said the professor after returning to the chamber "The Sorting Ceremony is about to start."

"Now, form a line," Professor McGonagall told us, first years "and follow me."

And so we did. I hold Lauren's hand and led him to the rest was going to. As we went inside the giant door, we (first years) became the center of attention of every student and professor there.

When i look around I saw four tables where the students was seating. Each table had their own uniform, A Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow.

While I was on my own fantasy, a suddenly loud voice became audible, singing, making me break out of my daydream- or is it night dream now, since it's already night, Err bad pun? Oh  well.

"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find A smarter hat than me.

You can keep your bowlers black,

Your top hats sleek and tall,

For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat And I can cap them all.

There's nothing hidden in your head The Sorting Hat can't see,

So try me on and I will tell you Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,

Where dwell the brave at heart,

Their daring, nerve,

and chivalry Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,

Where they are just and loyal,

Those patient Hufflepuff is are true And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,

if you've a ready mind,

Where those of wit and learning,

Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin You'll make your real friends,

Those cunning folk use any means To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (though I have none) For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

The students that were on the seats was clapping so hard, making my ears ring. Meanwhile, us first years were rather confused on what just happened. And I bet what they were thinking was 'Was that a talking hat?' or 'Did that hat just talk?'. Yeah, I know what you guys are feeling. That was what I also thought when I first know about all of this fiasco.

But outside of my expectation, the students (first years) also break into applause not long after the older student started theirs.

'Haha… why do I wanna hide in a hole for some reason?' I felt ashamed and idiotic, how could I compare myself with this Wizard and Witch born (purebloods)

The hat then bowed towards the four table and became still again.

After that the Professor called out "When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted," she said.

"Abbott, Hannah!"

A girl with blond-twin pigtails came upfront a sat on the chair, wearing the dusty old hat

Not long, the hat talked once more- screaming "Hufflepuff!". The yellow table clapped as she sat there.

"Bones, Susan!"

"Hufflepuff"

"Boot, Terry!"

"Ravenclaw"

This time the blue table clapped

"Brocklehurst, Mandy!"

"Ravenclaw"

"Brown, Lavender!"

Oh there's someone that finally went to the Red table

"Bulstrode, Milicent"

Ohh, now there's a green one too!

"Flinch-fletchley, Justin!"

"Hufflepuff"

Another yellow, hmm, is the yellow popular or something? Or is it the others has high standards?

"Finnigan, Seamus!"

"Griffindor

"Glinderlyn, Lauren!"

'Ah, it's his turn.' I thought to myself. Well, how to make this seem as natural as possible?

As I was in my own monologue, Lauren seems to have found a way. He took out a wooden cane, out of nowhere, and started walking like he owns the place. He put on the hat, but it was like the previous one, it took sometime.
