“Mr. Shen has misunderstood; you are a well-known philanthropist in the Zhonghai Antique Circle. I only wish to help you, how could I ever threaten you?”
Tang Feng dismissed his threat as if it were nothing, continuing to sit there as stable as Mount Tai.
“Help me? With what right?” Shen Tianyan clearly still didn’t believe him.
“I know Mr. Shen has some preconceptions about me, so why not let me do a reading for you first? Then we’ll see if I’m accurate.”
As he spoke, Tang Feng took out three copper coins from his pocket—props he had casually picked up when leaving the store.
Shen Tianyan didn’t sit down either, just watched coldly from the sidelines, curious to see what tricks he would play.
Tang Feng held the three Copper Coins in his hand and gently shook them, immediately creating a clanging sound.
Then he unfolded his hands, letting the three copper coins scatter freely on the table.
He aligned the copper coins in a row and then stared at them theatrically for a while.
“Interesting, quite interesting.” He slowly lifted his gaze, a faint smile lingering on his face.
“What did you see?” Shen Tianyan watched him quietly.
“I saw why Mr. Shen is so enthusiastic about charity,” Tang Feng said as he gathered the copper coins and slipped them back into his pocket.
Shen Tianyang finally showed a hint of interest, planting himself in the chair opposite Tang Feng with such force that it creaked worryingly, as if it might collapse under his weight.
“So tell me, why do I like doing charity?” He scrutinized Tang Feng, eager to find out what he could come up with.
“Because, you once did something that weighed on your conscience.” Tang Feng’s opening statement was explosive.
Before Shen Tianyan could respond, Xi Shuqin already appeared somewhat displeased, “Mr. Tang, although I respect you, you can’t recklessly slander my husband.”
Qin Yanan couldn’t stand it either, “Tang Feng, Mr. Shen is honest and open, and has done so much for charity— you can’t just spout nonsense.”
Accused by both, Tang Feng remained unaffected, his gaze fixed on Shen Tianyan, “Whether I’m talking nonsense, Mr. Shen knows better than I do.”
Shen Tianyan’s eyes narrowed as he stared at Tang Feng for a long time, “Then tell me, what conscience-burdening thing have I done?”
Tang Feng calmly poured himself a cup of tea, took a sip, and then continued, “You took someone else’s place and attended university under their name, and that person, whose rightful place at university you took, had their destiny altered because of you.”
“Huh!”
Shen Tianyan stood up abruptly, looking at him in disbelief, “How did you know? ”
Qin Yanan and Xi Shuqin were equally stunned.
He was asking how Tang Feng knew, not accusing him of slandering, so it was clearly true.
Could it be that the revered Mr. Shen had really taken someone’s place at university?
That seemed all too despicable.
Tang Feng leisurely drank his tea, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly, “You can’t entirely blame yourself for that; your parents did it behind your back, and for a long time, you believed you had earned your place at university through your own merit…”
Shen Tianyan looked at him blankly, his hefty frame beginning to shake.
This secret had been his alone; he hadn’t even told his wife.
He never expected it to be revealed by a stranger.
You can imagine his shock.
Tang Feng set down his teacup slowly and gazed straight at him, “When you learned the truth, you tried to find the person whose destiny you altered, only to discover they had taken their life by jumping into a river, unable to cope with the reality of failing the college entrance exams.”
“Thump!”
Shen Tianyan collapsed back onto the chair, bursting into tears, “It’s my fault; I stole the life that was rightfully his—I’m not human!”
With that, he slapped his own face twice.
Xi Shuqin hurried to stop him, “Mr. Shen, don’t do this.”
Tang Feng let out a sigh, “There’s no need for Mr. Shen to be so hard on himself; you truly didn’t know beforehand. It is precisely because of that incident that, once you became wealthy, you used your earnings to build schools, in an attempt to make amends for your past guilt. Am I right?”
Shen Tianyan looked at him blankly, “Is… is this what you divined?”
Only he and his parents knew about the incident; he had never told anyone and, considering the dishonorable nature of the act, his parents certainly hadn’t broadcast it either.
So his only conclusion was that Tang Feng had somehow divined it.
He hadn’t really believed in these so-called metaphysics masters before.
But now, he couldn’t help but believe.
“Delving into someone’s past is trivial; it’s predicting future fortunes and misfortunes that’s truly difficult,” Tang Feng said, unable to admit that it was he who had figured it out, instead offering a sincere look to sidestep the truth.
By now, Shen Tianyan was thoroughly convinced by Tang Feng’s words and, recalling what his wife had mentioned earlier, he became anxious, “You said I might face a bloody disaster—is that true?”
Tang Feng nodded, “Absolutely true, I came today specifically to help you overcome this crisis.”
Out of his business instincts, Shen Tianyan was immediately skeptical, “Why would you help me?”
Tang Feng glanced at Qin Yanan, “I personally prefer not to reveal the secrets of fate, but Mrs. Qin holds you in high regard and insisted on seeking my assistance for you. Out of respect for her, I reluctantly agreed.”
Acknowledging his explanation, Shen Tianyan hurriedly gestured a thank you to Qin Yanan, “Mrs. Qin, thank you so much.”
Qin Yanan quickly returned the gesture, “You’re too polite, Mr. Shen. You’ve done so many charitable deeds, I couldn’t bear to see someone like you suffer.”
Shen Tianyan turned back to Tang Feng, “Then, Mr. Tang, how do you propose to help me?”
Tang Feng glanced at the box in his hand, “This bracelet is the origin of the imminent misfortune. I suggest that Mr. Shen get rid of it as soon as possible to transfer the bad luck elsewhere.”
Shen Tianyan frowned, “I have in fact been preparing for a small auction recently, intending to sell this bracelet. But now, hearing what you’ve said, it seems I shouldn’t sell it.”
Tang Feng immediately became anxious, “Why not?”
“If this bracelet carries misfortune with it, then selling it to someone else would mean passing on the misfortune, wouldn’t it? I’d rather keep the misfortune to myself than do something like that.”
Shen Tianyan exhibited a fearless resolve akin to being ready to go through hell for others.
Tang Feng was left dumbfounded.
Had this clever ruse backfired on him?
