The dead man on the table is none other than Tezuka Kohei.
He hasn't forgotten that man's face. It's probably because the night was quite unforgettable. It's been a year already. He hasn't expected to see him again -- dead and n.a.k.e.d on a cold table under Yamashina Chiyo's knife.
The woman turns around and looks at him. Her dark eyes widen slightly, the shock disappearing within a second, only to be replaced by an eerie calmness. She puts down the scalpel and asks the man who is trembling in the corner, "What are you doing here?"
"How did he die?" Kawamoto Ren's eyes are fixed on the scalpel. How could this woman cut someone she knows so well?
"Poisoned." Yamashina Chiyo shrugs and returns to her inspection of the man's stomach. The body is already stiff. "And you are not supposed to be here."
"I came because --" His voice breaks when he watches her taking the dead man's intestines out. He turns his face to the wall, retching in disgust, and trying to not throw up. She's worse than a butcher.
"Because?" He hears her asking. The sound of her fingers moving through flesh enters his ears.
"I don't think that I can talk here." Kawamoto Ren runs out, trying to get away as far as possible from her.
"At least, he didn't faint," Yamashina Chiyo mumbles with a faint smile on her lips.
Kawamoto Ren doesn't go to his house. In a panic, he ends up driving to the Kamiyama house.
"Who are you?" The police officer asks him in a suspicious tone.
Kamiyama Kiyohira gives him a glance. "He's a family friend."
"I see." The police officer scans him before turning to Kamiyama Kiyohira. "If you think of anything suspicious, you can tell us anytime."
"Sure, Officer," Kamiyama Kiyohira tells the Officer who walks away from them, toward a car parked on the roadside.
"What has happened here?" Kawamoto Ren asks Kamiyama Kiyohira. "Why are the police here?"
"They found a serial killer's body here." Kamiyama Kiyohira guides him toward the villa. "Furotani Taro. Kirishima Mira was last seen with him."
"What?" Kawamoto Ren gasps. "Is Yuta okay?"
"He's fine." Kiyohira's face turns grim. After hearing about Furotani Taro's death, he has checked the surveillance cameras and found missing parts. The police think that Furotani Taro has tried to kill Takeshi in the restaurant but Tezuka Kohei died instead. How did Furotani die then? There are things that he hasn't asked his son. His wife hasn't spoken to Yuta either. She's already on her limit.
"I don't understand why bad things keep happening," Kawamoto Ren exhales, exasperated. They walk into the hall and sees Rie sitting on the couch with a grave look in her eyes and Yuta is standing in front of his mother with his head low.
"What's going on?" Ren walks to them. "Rie, are you scolding him for not being a good big brother?"
"I haven't said anything," Rie replies with a cold voice, "Ren, can you go to Aerie's room? Sho is sleeping with her. The maids are being questioned by the police at the station. There's no one to watch them."
The missing parts in the surveillance cameras have made the police suspicious of the maids. Furotani Taro couldn't have enough time to do something to the surveillance cameras. It must be an insider's job.
"Okay." Ren runs upstairs toward Aerie's room. The little girl is asleep on the bed with a baby beside her. Ever since she came, she has been close to the baby more than anyone in the family.
Downstairs, Rie grabs Yuta's hands and pulls him closer to her. "Did you kill Furotani Taro?"
Kamiyama Kiyohira, who has been watching them, fists his hands. Is it going to happen now? She has decided to drop down the facade.
"Mother, what are you saying?" Yuta looks at her, curving his brows, trying to look like an innocent five-year-old. His voice trembles when he notices the calmness in his mother's eyes. "How could I kill someone? He's an a.d.u.l.t. A serial killer."
"Did Mira bring him here?" Rie shakes him. Her voice turns dark and dangerous. "Did she want to hurt Aerie?"
"Why would she want to hurt Aerie?" He blinks his eyes when the realization hits. "You know everything."
"I heard it when you were talking about it to your father." She says to him without any change in her tone, "Did you kill him?"
"Where you are an assassin or not, you are my son first." Rie grips his shoulders harder and looks into his eyes, raising her voice. "I will never hate you for your past, my son. Because of you, I was able to find out the truth. That's why… You don't have to hide your true self or your past from me. But you need to tell me if you killed someone, Yuta. I need to know what is going on. Otherwise, I will fail as your mother again."
Yuta looks down, tears stinging his eyes. She has known it all along, but she didn't treat him any different. His father has also treated him the same. Although he's been a cold killer in the past, he didn't have to face his family. Kamiyama Takeshi had never known about his dark life. So it takes all the strength in his body to confess to his parents. "I did kill him."
He hears his father inhale sharply. His mother becomes still. Yuta doesn't look up to meet their eyes. A killer son. They must be disgusted with him now.
