In the end, her mother doesn't promise him that she wouldn't hurt Mira.
"I can't make promises that I can't keep." She crosses her arms. "In any case, you should move on from Mira. Should I find a child bride for you?"
"What?" Yuta gasps. "Mother, there are enough kids in the house. How could I even have a child bride?"
"Then, we should find one." She pats her son's shoulder. "There are things that you can't do, alright? Making kids curious about your private parts tops the list."
"But I don't want a child bride!" Yuta yells. Having a child bride is worse than going to school. "Mother, I will behave. I will go to school every day. I will--"
"If only Ren would get married and have kids…" Rie runs her fingers through her hair. "I am offering my two sons to him, but he's stubborn about not abandoning his waifus."
"You also had a waifu." Kiyohira mutters with a bitter look in his eyes, "Sakurano or whatever his name was. I had no idea that he was an anime character until you mentioned it."
Why are they not listening to him? He doesn't want a child-bride.
"Do you know any good kid?" Rie probes Kiyohira. "I don't want my son to have obsessive feelings for his murderer like you have for me."
"You didn't kill me though." Kiyohira defends his love for her, "You had a habit of running away or getting in troubles. That's better than murder."
What do they want to say? Yuta understands it now. But… but… he doesn't have feelings for that girl.
"I don't know where I should find a woman in her mid-twenties or a child who is around his age." Rie props her chin on her hand, seemingly distressed. "Why do we not have normal parents' problems? Our son is both old and young. He's also a pervert who teaches bad things to little kids. There's our daughter who is the daughter of my murderer and my son's kidnapper. Lastly, our third child… I can't figure him out. Is he too normal?"
They both know that their family is too abnormal. They can't even pretend anymore.
"Don't worry." Kiyohira holds her hand and squeezes it. "Imamura has a daughter."
"He does?" Her eyes shine. "Oh, right. He invited us to his daughter's birthday last year."
"She's starting school soon." Kiyohira smiles at her. "The child is a few months older than Yuta."
"They were born in the same year." Rie nods enthusiastically. "Aerie also needs a playmate. A 'normal' female child would be good for both Aerie and Yuta."
"They are starting school next week, aren't they?" Kiyohira glances at Yuta. "I don't like an engagement between young children. Let's have them mingle. Maybe Yuta will start having feelings for someone else."
Why are they talking like he's not here? He's only five! Five-year-olds don't have feelings. He craves pancakes more than an embrace of a woman. "Father, I am a kid. Don't be in a hurry to become a father-in-law. If you must sacrifice someone, you have my younger brother."
"He's too young." Kiyohira comments, "Besides, he doesn't love his murderer."
"He's not reborn either." Rie glares at Yuta. "And you... What do I say? You have managed to surprise me."
"I get it." Yuta presses his palms together and bows his head. "Mother, I won't be foolish. I promise that I will go to school and relearn everything for our new beginning. I will also behave nicely to other kids. Please don't find a child bride for me."
Kiyohira and Rie burst into a peal of laughter. They have been teasing this little one together. Why would they look for a child bride? Then again, it's not a bad idea to find a normal female playmate for Aerie. Imamura's daughter is learning ballet. Aerie can also take ballet classes.
"We were joking with you." Rie hugs her son. "We don't believe in forced marriages. You can choose whoever you want as your bride… or husband. As long as you don't choose a kid or a murderer, it's fine with us."
"I am not a paedophile, Mother." Yuta tells her for the 100th time, "I didn't intend to do that to Mira. She was the one who attacked me."
"Sure, sure, I believe you." It's clear from her tone that she doesn't completely believe him. "Help me set up the new DH then. Of course, after school."
She adds after a pause, "You should keep an eye on Aerie at school."
Yuta understands what she's trying to say. If Aerie receives her memories, he would be able to notice the change for sure. Right? A child and an a.d.u.l.t are too different. Even he couldn't pretend to be a kid successfully. His father could see through him.
"Your father will tell you everything that we know about Mira and Maddox." Rie rubs her son's head. "I am going to check on Sho and Aerie. It's been too quiet."
Rie walks away from him and Kiyohira. As she climbs up the stairs, her calm countenance changes to distress. Yuta's love for Mira is rather worrisome.
But it's also a fact that Mira saved her son from Maddox.
Mira didn't kill Yuta. She even saved Takeshi. There's no doubt that the target was Tezuka Kohei.
The girl is already gone from Yuta's life.
Just what is going on with that girl? She needs to talk to that girl and find out the truth. Taking any actions when only half-truth is before her eyes have caused enough disasters. A lot of people suffered because of her wrong decisions.
Kiyohira tells Yuta about everything that he knows about Mira and her family. "Consortium is quite old. Only people from Mira's family have been chosen as the leader. They care more about blood than natural leadership."
