a dark melody is swimming through the air. yuta picks up the books on human physiology from the shelf. there's someone who needs to read this. he glances at the unconscious woman once. shrugging the annoyance in his mind, he walks out of the room. he closes his eyes and exhales. how did she learn to smile like that when she had this kind of past? did her mother and grandfather turn her into that kind of person?
why did she bring him to this village before she died? what was her true reason? was he reborn because the gods wanted him to see how her childhood was? then, it doesn't give someone the right to hurt others if they have been hurt. however, he has no such right either. he also killed people. he was once someone's weapon.
leaving her house should be the right action. but, he can't leave her here. he goes to her room and sees her playing the violin. her eyes are closed. there's a hint of a smile on her lips. her grandfather is sitting on the chair, enjoying the delicate music. yuta has no doubt. she's rather gifted with music. but, her grandfather is right. her music is lacking something. emotions? no, there are emotions. if a child wears a dress that is suitable for an adult, the child can only mimic like an adult at most. her mechanical emotions make the music emptier.
so many lies. what should he do with her? he wants to hate her. but after seeing her like this, he can't bring himself to hate her. it doesn't mean that he will love her again. she still owes him.
"heiji, stop now." her grandfather lets out a deep sigh. his son's music is empty. why did he become like this? the old man looks at his fingers that can't hold a violin properly. "think of the words that i mentioned today."
yuki nods at his grandfather who strokes his head affectionately. in this house, his mother is afraid of his grandfather. only his grandfather can protect him from his mother when his father isn't here. he has to be on his grandfather's good side. he will do everything to make him happy. he only has to stick around until his father comes back. he's sure that his father will come back for him someday.
after the old man leaves the room, yuki sees the rabid dog come out from behind the door. the rabid dog locks the door and walks in his direction. why is it not surprising? this rabid dog is sticking to him like a leech. if his grandfather saw this short stick today, he would have been beaten by him again. he places the violin back in the case. "leave."
"i will leave when i want." yuta lays down the book on the top of the violin case. "read this."
yuki squints at it. introduction to human physiology? "did you steal this from my mother's room?"
yuki slaps his hand hard. "what is wrong with you? why do you keep touching my head?"
he hisses and rubs the red spot where yuki had hit him. damn! is she a kid? she is a snarky leopard. he snaps at her, "do you want to get beaten up again?"
yuki raises his arms in front of him defensively. "if you come at me this time, you won't be able to use your hands anymore."
"ha!" yuta inserts his hands inside his pockets. "how daring! i can kill you in a second."
"i will kill you first." yuki steps backwards. "why did you come to my house? we aren't friends."
"isn't your iq more than 200?" yuta crosses his arms. "it's a surprise that you haven't figured it out yet. check the pictures of the book first. if you have any questions, ask me."
yuki narrows his eyes on the dog. what is he playing at? the rabid dog raises his brow at him. he stares at the diagrams of human reproductive systems. "what is this about?"
frustrated, yuta stands beside her and points at the female reproductive system. "what do you see here?"
"this is the interior of the female reproductive system." yuki reads a little of the description. it doesn't make sense to him. "uterus? what about it? so, females have empty balloons in their stomachs. what's the big deal?"
the strange rabid dog scoffs at him and takes the book from his hand. yuki hears the sound of flipping pages. he can't understand this strange boy at all. he grabs his hand and shows him another picture. "this is you. you are a female. that's what i am trying to tell you."
not again. yuki groans. "i am not a girl."
"just look at this." yuta grabs her head and turns it toward the picture in the book. "unless you have this organ between your legs, you are not a man."
his grey eyes become round and big. the picture of the male anatomy is strange. he takes the book from the dog's hands and reads complicated words. he looks at the picture again and rereads. it doesn't make sense. this must be a lie.
"you are a girl, kirishima yuki," yuta tells her, breaking the lie apart. "i am curious as to why you were raised believing that you were a boy."
with a blank face, yuki turns to face him. "are you a male then?"
"i am." yuta crosses his arms and chins up. seeing her pale face, he asks her with a teasing voice, "do you want to see it?"
contrary to his expectations, yuki gives him a nod. "show me."
