Chapter 38:So called revenge (5)

"I didn't push her..." That's all Meilin could say in her defence. There was no way she could prove it. No video clips, no witness, nothing at all.

"Why would she lie against you?"

"She doesn't like me...you have to believe me" She said tears welling up in her eyes as she gestured with her cuffed hands.

Haru was listening to the whole conversation. His blood was boiling from listening to her voice.

"You have kids right?"

"Yes, two" She didn't deny and She'll never deny.

"Who's the father?"

"This has nothing to do with me being accused of pushing a pregnant woman down the stairs."

The cop bit his lip. He was asking questions that Haru recommended but she was smart enough to read that someone was behind the irrelevant questions being asked.

"There's also no proof that I pushed her. What if she fell on her own?"

"That's the problem" The man that was quiet the whole time slammed the table but Meilin wasn't provoked the slightest.

"Why would she lie against you?"

"I can't give you my personal details!" She raised her voice and the men smiled in amusement. A Moment ago she was afraid but now she's a wild tiger.

"Your attitude counts too you know. You seem like an aggressive person, and... it's possible that you really pushed her for revenge."

Meilin sighed leaning back on the chair. They've been asking the same questions for hours. The case wasn't going anywhere. No investigations could be carried out so it was best if haru just drops the case and deals with the issue personally.

"I'm sure haru is somewhere behind the tinted glass listening. I ask for a chance to talk to him." The two men looked at each other. Maybe she'd confess to him.

They granted her what she asked for and after a few minutes Haru walked in. Hands in his pocket as he looked at the emotional woman.

"Mr Yang..."

"Why did you push her? and why aren't you confessing?"

"Do you really think I'd do something like pushing Ai Jin down the stairs. I got stabbed for you Haru...and this Is what you think of me?" her heart soaked in pain from his view of her.

He didn't want her words to get to him. There was no way Ai Jin would lie about something so serious. He was letting his hate for her feed on his thinking. His head swam in regrets and negative thoughts. Everything she was saying wasn't going to change his belief of her being a bad person.

She was tired of making him believe her. It was best if they just came to an agreement "Since both sides don't have evidence for now, I ask for one thing. Time"

Haru tapped repeatedly on the table. He couldn't throw her in jail without any proof. They only had statements, two statements that coerced.

"If you're found guilty, I'll take full custody of your children."

"If I'm proved innocent, I want my children to have full ownership of the company"

He raised a brow at her confidence. Who's kids were they anyway? It didn't really matter to him. He wouldn't love or care for them, he'd set them up for adoption to people that are likely to take them to America or somewhere else that's out of state.

He wouldn't stop until she's completely broken, soul and mind to an extent that's beyond repair.

"We've come to an agreement then" she nodded and he left. The two cops from before came back to unlock the hand cuffs and wish her good luck. She had a week to prove her innocence and he also had one week to gather some sort of proof. Who would win in the end?

The seven days were used wisely. Haru circulated news about Guiren taking the wrong side and Meilin pushing his wife down the stairs. It was everywhere on the media and rumours spread out like wildfire.

They both had to avoid the media even if they had to disguise themselves. Meilin got a lawyer and Guiren was helping out in every possible way he could.

Meilin hardly got time to play with her daughter's like she used to but she promised that she'd be the same loving mother that would stop anything in the world for them. No matter where she is.

Day eight, the court hearing.

Meilin's lawyer entered the building dressed in her monochrome suit and her square glasses rode on the bridge of her nose. She stopped to inhale the familiar scent of the courtroom, one of good and bad.

She sat down beside her client meilin who had arrived earlier than she imagined. The woman she didn't know much about, or her case records gave her an assuring smile.

"Thanks for coming" The suited woman smiled as she looked through her phone and tapped a pen on the file jacket on her lap.

She accepted Meilin's case because it was challenging and she'd gain much reputation from siding a woman that majority of the world was against.

Outside the court was flooded with annoying paparazzi and news agents that were streaming live. Everything became worse when Haru and Ai jin arrived at the court. They had to trudge through the crowd and avoid all the questions being asked. Friends and family accompanied with other supporters had to find their way through the crowd too and take their seats to where they were directed to.

They all got up to greet the judge and the elder seated on the high table did the same to the plaintiff team and the defendant team.

The two lawyers introduced themselves and their clients, Meilin and Haru. After the various protocols the trial started.

"Miss Yang, I ask for you to come up the witness stand and give your statement."

Ai jin nodded and went up the stand, took a deep breath as her eyes started brimming with tears "I'm Mrs Yang and I'm here to say that Miss Meilin yee is a very dangerous person. Because of her, I'm no longer a mother. She cold heartedly pushed me down the flight of stairs and is denying it till date. I accept that I must've delayed her but I just did it because I didn't want her to snatch my husband away from me. She's a poisonous woman and a husband snatcher" She broke down and the judge assumed she was no longer in the state to talk.

The elder turned to the defendant side that was totally empty. Only four people supporting the accused. It was quite sad because it's possible to be used against her.

Anyone would assume she didn't have a good relationship with people and that's why no one would support her. Ten people from the company were going to testify against Meilin and four were going to give a good account of her. Her only support was her friendly neighbor, guiren and the nursery owner. No one else.

The judge asked if meilin had something to say and she nodded. She went to the vacant witness stand and parted her lips to talk "I'm Miss Yee Zhao and I've been accused wrongly. I did not push Mrs Yang down the stairs. She tripped on her own. There was absolutely no physical contact between us at that moment. We did get into a brief fight but it was because she stopped me from going to Mr Chiu's office."

Ai Jin's Lawyer, got up "Miss Meilin, it's possible to say you were angered to the extent you pushed Mrs yang down the stairs without thanking."

"That's not true" She said but the man tackled her with another question.

"Were you or were you not jealous about the fact that Mr Haru Yang was intimate with Ai jin Yang"

Meilin's lawyer, Lilu Fong got up, and requested a moment to talk after observing the existing protocol and her request was granted.

"Miss Yee can you recall what happened exactly?"

Meilin nodded "Well, I was at the top of the stairs when she blocked the passage way. I was very conscious because she was pregnant that's why I played along as she delayed me. I just wanted to drop paper works off at Mr Chiu's office but she stopped me. and before I knew it, she took an incomplete step forward and fell."

Lilu turned to the judge "My Lord, from both the statements and the position of the two women at that time...it is impossible that my client Miss Yee pushed Mrs Yang."

The judge raised a brow, the small woman in baggy clothing was very amusing. Mumbles arose after the woman's statement but the judge called for decorum and the noise died down in seconds.

"Mrs Yang was in front of Miss Meilin, and even if my client did push her, she'd fall on her back and nothing would happen to the baby. If Miss meilin was pushed, she'd be the one that'll fall down the stairs." She snapped her fingers and the structure plan of Mr Chiu's floor was displayed on the white board present in the court room.

Lilu pointed out the position of the two women and it was believable that there was a chance Meilin didn't push Ai jin.

"And from Mrs Yang's statement, she agreed to have blocked the passage way to Mr Chiu's office. If we turn everything upside down, Mrs Yang would've been blocking the stairway but she wasn't. Meilin stood at the top of the stairs and Mrs Yang was on the safe side. So it is possible that Mrs Yang tripped without anyone pushing her."

Ai Jin's lawyer was lost on words. He sat down to think as he wiped his drenched face with a napkin and Ai jin wasn't helping matters. All she did was pressure him to say something even if it didn't matter to the case.
