The water begins glowing brighter and brighter until we're all forced to shield our eyes. Suddenly, I hear a loud crash and when I look up, I see the kitchen table collapsing! I drop my hand to watch the whole table get sucked up into the spiraling water with large eyes.
My mouth falls open in shock before a pair strong of arms pull me back and away from the spinning vortex of death. Kian places me down next to my mother as he asks "What the hell did you do?"
I point to myself and shake my head as I say "Don't ask me!" He gives me a look of disbelief as he says "Who else am I supposed to ask?" When the wind finally dies down, we both look back over to see that the spiraling vortex had now calmed down and was just hovering in the middle of my kitchen like some fancy high-tech water feature.
My mom starts shaking her head as she continues to say "No... no... it can't be." I glance at her before looking back to the weird vortex. I mumble "It's a gateway..." Kian frowns and asks "A gateway to what?"
I take a small step forward as I say "A gateway to the spirit world." My mother continues to shake her head as she says "I just got him back... I..." I blink away my awe and turn to look at my mother with concern.
Suddenly, I'm hit with an idea. I look back to the gateway with million things going through my head before I say "This doesn't mean they're dead..." I turn to look back at my mother as she turns and looks at me with confusion and hope in her tear-filled eyes.
"Enzo was a powerful demon and if he wanted to hide them somewhere I wouldn't easily find them... the spirit world would have been the perfect place," I say looking to Kian. Kian tilts his head to the side, considering my theory as my mother starts nodding her head.
I turn back to the vortex and take another step forward. Kian quickly grabs my arm and says "Slow down. We don't even know if that's possible but if it is, a living person won't survive in there." I nod my head and say "A normal person wouldn't but we all know that I'm not normal."
I look back to the vortex before saying "Enzo must have done something that allowed them to survive down there but if he's dead... his magic may not continue working for much longer. The longer we take, the fewer chances they have of ever making it back out of there."
Kian starts shaking his head as he says "I don't like this. I don't like any of this. I can't go there with you... the spirit world can be extremely dangerous!" I give him a helpless smile as I say "Kian, you can't follow me everywhere and protect me from everything."
He scoffs at me and scoops me up over his shoulder before saying "You can just try and stop me." I squeak at his speed and glance up just in time to see my mom's blue eyes giving us a hopeless grin before he tosses me onto the bed.
I flip my hair out of my face as I give him a dry look. He stands at the end of the bed, chest rising and quickly falling at his emotions. He's afraid... I lean up on my elbows with a sigh and say "Kian, I understand you're worried but it'll be fine."
He grits his teeth as strong emotions flicker across his face before saying "You died Eris... right in front of me and I was unable to save you. I couldn't stop him... I couldn't do anything! The heavens gave you another chance at life and you're about to dive into the spirit world like your diving into a swimming pool!"
I slowly sit up and walk over to him before coming to a stop right before him. I gently take his hands in mind before looking up to him and saying "I'm sorry. I can't imagine how you felt at that moment but I need you to trust me. Yes, it's dangerous but I promise to be careful. I can't just walk away from this, Kian. They're my family. They're our family."
He gives me a hard glare before leaning down and pressing his forehead against mine. He's silent for several long moments before saying "Okay... Okay. You'll do it with or without my permission anyway so might as well be a part of it."
I give him a knowing smile before pushing up on my tiptoes and kissing him. He releases my hands and grabs the back of my head, deepening the kiss. As he breaks the kiss, his dark red eyes bore into mine as he says "Once you're back, will talk about the whole loverboy thing."
I quickly pull away and spin around him as I nervously laugh and say "We're wasting time! I need to hurry." As I walk down the hall, I glance back to see him right on my heels with a dark grin. I quickly slide into the kitchen to find my mother still standing there, silently watching the vortex.
"Mom, I'm going to bring them both back. This I promise." I say coming to her side. She blinks and turns to me with a sad smile while saying "Eris honey, this has gone too far. I want your father and brother back but not at the expense of your life. I love you sweetheart but this isn't it."
I give her a grateful smile before saying "Thanks mom but this is something I have to do. Whether you want them back or not, I'm going. I'm doing this for me, for us." I slowly turn and smile at Kian as my mother starts to cry.
I look back to the vortex and say "In and out. Once I find them, I'll make it back. If for some reason it's too late... I will still make it back."
