My feet hit the sidewalk in a continues beat. Thump, thump, thump. I ran towards a nearby park, because I am not going back to Devin's house nor I am going back to that horrid school. I looked back behind me. Hunter seemed to have given up a few yards back. I turned the corner and ran into the park. I stopped, panting a little. Then I looked around. No one was here. Yay. I walked over to a tree and climbed up. I've always like being in high places. I can see everything happening around me. Over the years, I've developed a excellent skill for climbing. Once in the tree, I looked around.
Oh. There was a nearby forest that I have never noticed before. I looked at my watch. Hmm. I still have plenty of time. It wasn't even lunch at school yet. I jumped down the tree, fixed my hood and sprinted to the forest.
A fresh smell of pine and dirt hit me. I welcomed the smell and gave the first little smile in months. This was officially one of my new favourite places.
Suddenly, I felt my body shift. Panicking, I tried look at myself.
Oh.
My.
God.
I was a wolf. I wasn't sure what I looked like but I had PAWS. My eyes were suddenly sharper. It was like someone had given me a pair of blurry glasses and I didn't know how colorful everything was until I took it off. The trees became greener, with different shades. My nose was better. My ears could hear everything within the mile. My paws could feel even the slightest movement on the forest floor. Even my mouth seemed to have more taste buds.
I jogged, or rather ran around, since I've gotten much faster. I found a puddle and looked in.
Gosh. I don't even recognize me anymore. I was a midnight black wolf with a white tipped tail and a white cresent moon on my forehead. But I didn't pay attention to any of that, or the fact that all my scars are gone. I was looking for my soul mask. Every werewolf has one. It's this piece of jewelry that contains our werewolf abilities. Devin has a ring with a cracked heart. It was once whole but somehow cracked when his mate died. Where is it, where is it...there! I see it! It was an anklelet. And it was... beautiful. Prettier than anything I've ever owned. It was made of a thin silver chain, with small white icicles hanging from it. The biggest charm was a black moonstone, carved into the shape of a howling wolf sitting on a cresent moon. It was hanging around my ankle, though I have no idea how it managed to stay there while I was running around. Maybe-
A white hot strike of pain hit me. I yelped and dropped to the ground. Whimpering, I tried to see where the pain was coming through the black spots dancing before my eyes. I caught a glimpse of myself from the puddle. Oh no. It was my shock collar. Devin must have found out that I was not at school anymore. Shoot. I tried to concentrate to the anklelet, trying to turn back human. Nothing happened. The pain got worse. No, no, no...yes! Stumbling on my human legs, I tried to run back to Devin's house. My neck felt like someone was stabbing it with thorns. I could feel a blackout coming. That is what I call my fainting during severe beatings. Devin just calls me weak.
I stumbled onto the porch just in time to collapse on my side.
HUNTER'S POV
My father is dead. I couldn't believe it. It just didn't seem true. He was killed during a fight with another pack. Before, I was the beta. Then all of a sudden, BAM, my father died and I became alpha. For the first few days, I hid inside my room, facing reality and shedding some tears. Then I got to business. I ordered half of my pack including me, my beta, Milo, to go kill all of the members of the pack who killed my father. When we got back, Daniel, our healer, barely had to tend wounds. My pack is the number one around. Some other packs say we're cold-blooded. Not true. We only kill for one reason: revenge. The rest of the minor fights, we just injure them pretty badly. But never kill. Today, me, Milo, and Daniel enrolled in a school to try to find my mate. Daniel, using his healer powers, somehow (I don't know how) determined that she was in this area. Seriously, Daniel has some pretty awesome skills. But he's a gentle guy. He mostly leaves all the fighting and stuff to me and Milo. The school is nice. Yeah. That's the only word I can think of to describe the school. 'Nice'. It was your typical high school. Typical weird teachers, typical nerds, typical slut, and a not-so-typical loner. Thana. That was her name. 18, grade 11. Maybe failed a few grades? No known last name. Weird. We (me, Milo, and Daniel) stalked her online for a few hours. There was literally almost nothing about her. One thing for sure: boy, she does run fast. Also...she has...that stripe of white hair...just like me. Underneath the hair dye, of course. Don't need to be labeled freak on the first day of school. She wears a mask and an eyepatch, covering up most of her face. Still, I could tell she wears tons of foundation. I wonder what she's hiding under all those layers...
I could also tell there was a metal band around her neck. An interesting fashion statement. She doesn't seem to be a werewolf, since I couldn't spot any visible soul masks on her. Maybe she's hidden it. However, Daniel said she is a normal human. Damn, how are we supposed to find my mate among all those people? I just really hope it's not that bish, Jade. And as for Thana... I have a few interesting plans I want to try out.
