Chapter 39 - Chinese Wedding

Chapter 39 Chinese Wedding

Although Chen Baiyi had been engaged three times, this was the only time she had really gotten married, so she didn’t understand many of the procedures. Zhang Xiulan was also extremely afraid of He Xiao. She hadn’t seen Chen Baiyi once in so many days, and it was even more impossible for her to ask if there was anything she needed help with. After the two of them had set the wedding date, He Xiao told Chen Baiyi to relax. He would arrange it. He didn’t want to leave any regrets for his and Chen Baiyi’s wedding. The wedding invitations had been sent to everyone in the village. He Xiao had even specially instructed them to hand it over to the man who had gone on two blind dates with Chen Baiyi.

The village chief knew about Chen Baiyi’s situation. Her parents had passed away early, and her stepmother wasn’t a good person. Otherwise, this child wouldn’t have cut ties with that family and lived alone. He was afraid that there wouldn’t be many people supporting the bride, so he asked some experienced women to help Chen Baiyi.

Because He Xiao’s house was close to Chen Baiyi’s, the pick-up time was set for nine in the morning. However, on the morning of the wedding, Chen Baiyi was still woken up at four o’clock to dress up. The two of them had booked a Chinese-style wedding. It would take some time to braid her hair and put on a phoenix crown.

Chen Baiyi forced herself to stay awake as the women and makeup artists fussed over her. By the time the last step was completed, it was already past eight. All she had to do now was wait for the groom to arrive.

He Xiao had many buddies, and they came with great fanfare. When he pushed open the door, he saw the bride he had been longing for and a rare smile appeared on his face. He Xiao quickly found the wedding shoes that had been hidden and put them on Chen Baiyi before carrying her onto the bridal sedan.

Accompanied by suona and lion dance, the sedan chair began to move. After a loud shout from the sedan driver in front, the eight of them worked together to lift the dumpling sedan chair.

Most of the people in the village were already waiting at the wedding venue. The sedan chair arrived shakily. He Xiao walked up and helped Chen Baiyi down. The two of them walked to the master of ceremonies.

“The flower hall is decorated with beautiful colors and is filled with joy. Everyone, friends, and relatives… The two of them are a match made in heaven. It is the will of the heavens and a good fate bestowed by the heavens. On behalf of the two newcomers, I thank everyone for coming!”

“May the bride and groom bow to God! Second, bow to the parents! Husband and wife, bow to each other-get up!” Because neither of their parents was present, the two of them drank cross-cupped wine directly. Finally, the host announced that the ceremony was complete!

The crowd shouted from below! Applause!

Next, it was He Xiao and Chen Baiyi’s turn to toast the guests at each table. They first went to toast the village chief and Auntie Lin’s table. “Thank you for taking the time to attend my wedding. Come, let’s have a drink together!”

“Baiyi, we’re not good with words. We don’t know how to speak fancy words. We just hope that the two of you can have a long and happy married life!” The village chief spoke to Chen Baiyi and He Xiao respectfully on behalf of everyone. Then, he drained his glass.

He Xiao followed closely behind. “Thank you, Village Chief! Thank you, everyone!”

The joyous occasion diluted everyone’s fear of He Xiao’s “murderer” identity and they all came up to toast him. Looking at He Xiao’s smiling face and then at the beautiful Chen Baiyi, everyone exclaimed that the two of them were really a match made in heaven!
