Chapter 5 - Meeting the in-law

‘It has been half a year since then. Naturally, CEO Sheng wouldn’t remember such trivial matters. But why would the Madam suddenly bring it up?’

Jiang Niansheng was so immersed in her own thoughts that she did not notice the subtle expression change on Wei Lian’s face.

‘I have caused trouble for Sheng Hanye… I should do something to make up for it! After all, he is my benefactor!’

Jian Niansheng had an idea. Once they returned to Jiang Manor, she went into the kitchen to cook.

When Sheng Hanye came home at night and sat at the dining table, his face darkened, “Who made these?”

The butler glanced at Jiang Niansheng, “It’s…

“I’ve made them myself. This is cucumber, celery, and Balsam pear juice. It has a cooling effect.” Jiang Niansheng’s voice was clear and bright. She did not realize that something was wrong.

“Take them away.”

“Why?” Jiang Niansheng stopped the butler. “You need to watch your diet for your condition. These are good for you.”

Sheng Hanye tilted his head to look at her. “We just got married and you made a whole table of green food. What are you insinuating?”

Jiang Niansheng was stunned. She forgot about it. Green hat meant cuckolding.

“Well, green is a healthy color.”

The man’s face darkened.

‘Crap, I’ve messed up again!’

“Fine.” Jiang Niansheng curled her lips. “If you don’t want, then don’t eat them. After all, I’m not the one with PTSD.”

Sheng Hanye picked up a piece of celery. “If you dare to make me wear a green hat, I’ll make you beg for death.”

“Of course, I won’t do that! Hehe.” She cleared her throat and said, “CEO Sheng, you’re so handsome, rich, elegant, graceful. No one can compare to you. I must be so lucky to be able to marry you!”

He ignored her and said coldly, “Tomorrow morning, we’re going back to the Sheng family’s old residence.”

Jiang Niansheng asked, “To meet your parents?”

“Yes.”

“Fine.” She agreed. “I will cooperate fully around your family but can you help me with a small favor in return?”

Sheng Hanye asked, “Are you negotiating terms with me?”

“Well, we did have such a pleasant transaction last time.” Jiang Niansheng moved close to him and shook his arm gently, “Please help me.”

A strange numbing electric current spread from his arm to his entire body. Sheng Hanye suddenly pulled back and leaned against the back of the chair. “What do you want?”

“Lend me a few bodyguards.”

“Why?”

Jiang Niansheng replied, “It’s not something illegal. I need to deal with two people!”

Liao Peng and Liao Zhi had set her up so she had to counter. She needed to let them understand that the Jiang family was no pushover!

“I’ll lend them to you for one day.” Sheng Hanye sighed. “Treat them nicely.”

She hugged him happily. “Ah! Thank you, Hubby!”

A hint of a smile flashed across Sheng Hanye’s eyes, but indifference soon returned.

..

Jiang Niansheng wore a light-pink, round-necked skirt that reached her knees to the Sheng family’s old residence. She paired it with a pair of white high heels. She looked gentle and graceful.

Her lips were red and her skin was fair. The custom-made skirt accentuated her slender figure and pretty face. Her beauty was ethereal and she was eye-catching.

“Is this good enough? I can be very good with the elders if I want to.”

Sheng Hanye responded with a faint “HMM” to hide the surprise in his eyes.

He suddenly felt an itch in his heart… It was just like how Wen Wan made him feel all those years ago!

He bent his elbow. “Take my arm.”

Jiang Niansheng stood beside Sheng Hanye. They walked in like a married couple.

As the wealthiest family in Nan City, the Sheng family’s old residence was decorated in Chinese style. The whole house was like a garden with mounts and rivers. It had an ancient Chinese feel.

Elder Sheng was still alive and kicking. Sheng Hanye’s father, Sheng Tai’an was a wastrel. He married Madam Sheng but had an affair with Yu Lifang. Yu Lifang charmed Sheng Tai’an so much that she got him to divorce his wife.

Madam Sheng already had a son and a daughter then. She was unable to forgive her husband so she cut off all ties with the Sheng family.

Yu Lifang was an opportunist. Soon her belly grew large and she officially entered the Sheng family.

In the living room, Jiang Niansheng’s eyes scrutinized everyone there. ‘Which of these people is backing Liao Peng? Or is it the man beside him? If it is really him, what shall I do?’

She asked Sheng Hanye in a low voice, “What should I do if someone purposely wants to make things difficult for me.”

“I’m sure you can take care of yourself.”

“That’s true, but you can’t just stand idle and watch the show.” She pulled on his shirt. “You need to help me when you can!”

Sheng Hanye grabbed her moving fingers. “That will depend on my mood.”

Jiang Niansheng, “…”

‘Men are unreliable!’

“Grandpa,” Sheng Hanye said faintly, “I brought my wife to come to see you.”

Elder Shen reprimanded. “What is the meaning of this? I’ve already promised the Ye family. We’re only a step away from your betrothal to Ye Ziya! How can you get married without telling us!”

“Grandpa, if you like Ye Ziya that much, you should marry her.”

“What nonsense!”

“Father,” Yu Lifang said, “As long as Sheng Hanye is happy, everything is fine.”

Yu Lifang was glad that Sheng Henye had married an ordinary woman with no background because this meant that her son had a better chance to fight for the Sheng family’s assets.

Sheng Tai’an agreed. “Yes, as long as Hanye is happy.”

Jiang Niansheng smiled sweetly. “Hello, grandpa, I’m Jiang Niansheng. Hanye and I are sincerely in love. I promise to be a good wife and a good mother.”

“Fine.” Elder Sheng said sternly, “Jiang Niansheng, you are now a part of the Sheng family so you have to watch your words and actions.”

“I will remember that, grandpa.”

“Okay, start the tea ceremony.”

Jiang Niansheng picked up the tea and served the family members according to their seniority. “Mother-in-law, please have tea.”

“Shouldn’t you call me mother by now? Or you don’t see me as a member of the Sheng family?” Yu Lifang said pointedly, “Or you don’t see yourself as the daughter-in-law of the Sheng family?”

Even though Yu Lifang just spoke up for Jiang Niansheng, it was for her own benefit. But as a Sheng Hanye’s senior, she had to discipline the new daughter-in-law.

Jiang Niansheng replied in an even manner. “Mother-in-law, everyone is fine with how I addressed them, how is it a problem when it’s your turn?”

Jiang Niansheng glanced at Sheng Hanye from the corner of her eye. ‘Is he really not going to help me?’

“I find this tea unpleasant.” Yu Lifang said, “Perhaps it’s the person serving it.”

Jiang Niansheng was about to argue further when Sheng Hanye grabbed the teacup. He slammed the cup against the ground. The tea splashed everywhere.. “You’re only my stepmother. Who are you to complain about my wife?”
