He was stunned. “What? Call Si Cang over right now!”

“Doctor Si is already here. Master Sheng, we’re still waiting for you to come back and make a decision. Should we send Madam to the hospital?”

“I’ll be back right away.”

Sheng Hanye threw away the cigarette butt, grabbed the car keys, and hurried to the Sheng Manor.

In the master bedroom, Si Cang was monitoring Jiang Niansheng’s heartbeat.

The butler was waiting at the side.

Sheng Hanye walked to the bedside and saw Jiang Niansheng’s pale face. He asked in a low voice, “What’s going on?”

Si Cang raised his index finger to shush Sheng Hanye. Sheng Hanye stepped back but he could not hide the anxiety in his eyes.

Did the lock in the dark room scare her? Or did she get bitten by some unknown bug?

Sheng Hanye wanted to kick himself. Jiang Niansheng used to be a rich young lady, naturally, she wouldn’t survive the torment of the black room. This was his fault.

After a while, Si Cang heaved a sigh of relief. “It’s nothing serious. Her heart rate is normal.”

“Then why did she faint?”

“You’re asking me? I should be asking you.” Si Cang stood up. “You know better than I do what she has been up to recently.”

“She…” Sheng Hanye pursed his lips and paused for a moment. “As long as she’s fine.”

Si Cang said, “Ever since you got married, I’ve been summoned here more times than last year combined.”

Sheng Hanye changed the topic. “Does she need medication or injections?”

“No, she was probably too tired and fainted from exhaustion. She needs to rest more, and exercise more.”

“Okay, butler, send him out.”

“What a bastard you are!” Si Cang sighed, “When you need me, I have to fly over here; but when you’re done with me, I’m kicked away just like that?”

Sheng Hanye rolled his eyes at him.

“Since I’m here, I might as well take a look at you too.” Si Cang’s hand pressed on Sheng Hanye’s pulse. “You look good recently. The episodes don’t happen as often, yes?”

“Correct.”

“Jiang Niansheng is really your best medicine.” Si Cang added, “On top of that, you’re looking the best I’ve seen in a long time… She is looking like a ghost but you’re all hale. What did you do to her?”

“Nothing.”

“I’ve heard of vixen sucking the life force out of young men but not the other way round…”

Sheng Hanye sent Si Cang flying with a kick.

After everyone left, Sheng Hanye sat on the bed and gently stroked Jiang Niansheng’s cheeks with his fingertips.

“What am I going to do with you?” His voice was hoarse. “Jiang Niansheng, you were sent by the heavens to torture me, right…”

Jiang Niansheng’s eyes were tightly shut, and there was no color on her delicate little face.

She had a dream.

In the dream, she saw Wen Wan.

It was like looking in a mirror. She and Wen Wan wore the same clothes and had the same hairstyle.

In this strange dream, Wen Wan kept repeating a sentence, “Don’t fall in love with Ah Ye.”

Jiang Niansheng asked, “Who is Ah Ye? Sheng Hanye? is that what you used to call him?”

“Don’t fall in love with Ah Ye.”

“He caused my family to fall. Why would I love him?”

Wen Wan still repeated, “Don’t fall in love with Ah Ye, please don’t…”

Jiang Niansheng was confused.

She subconsciously muttered, “Ah Ye, Ah Ye…”

‘Such an intimate nickname, Sheng Hanye and Wen Wan must have had sweet memories together.’

Sheng Hanye sat at the head of the bed and heard Jiang Niansheng’s muttering.

His whole body trembled.

Was she calling him?

Ah Ye… It had been a long, long time since anyone had called him that.

Jiang Niansheng was calling that name in her sleep. It gave Sheng Hanye the illusion that Wen Wan was still alive. They looked similar and called him by the same nickname.

After a moment of silence, Jiang Niansheng began to mumble again, “Don’t fall in love with Ah Ye… Please don’t…”

She spoke quickly and vaguely, so he could not hear her clearly.

Sheng Hanye lowered his head and moved closer to her lips, only then did he hear the whole sentence clearly.

“Don’t fall in love Ah Ye, don’t, please don’t…”

He did not move and maintained this position.

Sheng Hanye closed his eyes. He forced himself to return to reality.

“Jiang Niansheng,” he patted her shoulder gently, “Wake up.”

After Sheng Hanye did this a few times, Jiang Niansheng slowly opened her eyes.

She stared at the ceiling in a daze. A tear slowly fell from the corner of her eye. She cried. The tear was for Wen Wan.

In her dream, Jiang Niansheng was able to experience Wen Wan’s sadness and pain more vividly. The eternal damnation was falling in love with a man whom she couldn’t love. If Shang Hanye had reciprocated some of Wen Wan’s feelings, perhaps they wouldn’t be separated by life and death today.

“Jiang Niansheng.” Sheng Hanye’s magnetic voice pulled her back to reality. “Were you in a nightmare?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

“What kind of nightmare?”

Jiang Niansheng opened her mouth but did not say anything. She could not tell Sheng Hanye that she knew who Wen Wan was.

Since she didn’t say anything, Sheng Hanye didn’t press. “It was just a dream. It is not real. Don’t be afraid.”

“I’m not.” She said, “I need some water.”

He got up and poured some water for her. He even tested the temperature. The man was very awkward with his movements. Jiang Niansheng could tell he had never served anyone before.

After drinking the water, her throat felt a little better.

“Why did you suddenly faint?” Sheng Hanye asked, “Do you feel better now?”

‘I fainted because of how you treated Wen Wan.’ Jiang Niansheng thought. But the words that left her lips were, “What do you think? How about you try spending some time in the black room?”

“You’re the only one who’s been there but you’re the only one who’s fainted.”

“How can I compare to your subordinates? I’m just a weak woman.”

Sheng Hanye’s expression softened. “I won’t do it again.”

“Don’t say that because you’re going to eat your words.” Jiang Niansheng replied, “Furthermore, you have many other ways to torture a person. In the future, I’m afraid my ending will be worse than today should I accidentally provoke you again.”

He suddenly stretched out his hand and pulled her into his embrace, his chin pressing against her hair. His tenderness was infinite like water.

“I promise I won’t do that anymore.” Sheng Hanye said, “As long as you don’t leave and betray me… Jiang Niansheng, I want to be good to you.”

She leaned into his embrace meekly, but the corners of her mouth curled into a mocking smile. ‘He probably takes me as Wen Wan again. He must have wanted to say these things to her.’

“I don’t believe it.” Jiang Niansheng shook her head. “When you lose your temper, it’s quite scary.”

“Why don’t you appease me when I’m angry?” He asked, “Ah Sheng, men need to be appeased and coaxed.”

She said sullenly, “How would I know? I’ve never needed to appease a man before!”
