The magical futuristic experience continued as they went to higher floors. However, they skipped some as Ellena's purpose for coming here was to be questioned using a lie detector, not for a tour.
They entered an elevator, bringing them to the higher floors where the lie detector is located.
It was on the 8th floor; therefore, when they entered the elevator, Manny clicked the 8 number and the door closed.
Aaron, on the other hand, was amazed as to how they also came up with the idea of having a room for elevating to other floors. It was as if he didn't expect to have this archaic setting to build something like this. If he continues to underestimate them, he will be surprised if he gets to see more futuristic machines that have a resemblance to Earth's famous machines.
Minutes had passed when they stopped at the 8th floor. The door opened and what greeted their eyes was a familiar layout to Aaron.
It was...
"A laboratory." Aaron mumbles.
'Aaron? What did you say?' Ellena asked as she heard Aaron mumbling something.
"No, never mind," he responded and let Ellena continue her task.
Ellena followed Manny's lead. They entered a wide room which was supposed to be the office of an executive. Shelves were leaning on the walls. There was also a receiving place where two couches faced each other, and in between, them was a table made of glass.
The room was also well-lit, so it made their mansion's lights a joke.
Both of them, Ellena and Aaron, raised their eyebrows, venturing their eyes inside the room.
"This subordinate greets director Yskaen." Manny suddenly said and bowed in front of the table at the end of the room.
"Carry on. Report the details." The director replied who was showing his chair's back to Ellena's company.
"Here is Miss Noelle, also known as 'The Masked Monster'. She was targeted by an unknown criminal group and is here to be questioned for the information she knows." Manny reported with respect.
"I see... Then, you may now leave the room."
"Yes, director Yskaen," Manny said before bowing again and looking at Ellena for a second before leaving the room.
Aaron was just surprised to see it. Manny looked like a normal ranker from the outside, and that made him think that Manny wasn't a type of subordinate figure inside the headquarters. However, after seeing it, he changed his view of the headquarters to be an organization like a military.
Who would've thought that the underestimated adventurers' guild was this huge and well-organized?
"I am Noelle..."
Yskaen didn't reply, instead, he just turned around, facing her and exposing his handsome face. He was supposed to be a middle-aged man, but his aura doesn't tell his exact age. To be appropriately described, he looks like a handsome tycoon.
"Then... Noelle, let's start the questioning. Please have a seat." he gestured with his palm, open arms pointing at the couch.
Ellena nodded and sat on the couch. Yskaen followed but sat across her.
"Who do you think tried to kill you?" Yskaen asked, but Ellena didn't answer immediately. Instead, she muses on the fact that she sees no artifacts. Where's the lie detector?
"Wait. I was brought here to be asked using a lie detector. Where is the lie detector?" she asked.
However, Yskaen just softly chuckled. "Silly, you are looking at it right now."
"Huh? Where?... You mean..."
"Yes, I am the lie detector," Yskaen revealed.
Aaron was speechless looking at him. He has the same ability as Amber. If that's the case, making him an important 'artifact', Amber's ability was also highly regarded.
Ellena looked at him with an uncertain look. Inside her mind, she was thinking of the same thoughts as Aaron's.
"Okay... Answering your question, I don't know." Ellena casually answered, even forgetting that in front of her was a director of the guild.
Yskaen's rune glowed slightly and sighed at her after. "If that's so... Forget about it. Eventually, if they fail to kill you, they will come back to you. So, after it, if you cleanly finish the questioning without being suspicious, the guild will protect you and capture this group. It will also benefit us anyways."
Aaron almost snorted when he heard the bluntness of Yskaen. Even Ellena couldn't help but notice it and also made her slightly irritated the way he talked. It was as if they were just using criminals as a commodity instead of goals for people to live happily.
But that was what was immature about Ellena. She thinks that humans are supposed to be unselfish. However, little did she know, she's a hypocrite. She's selfish in small ways that even she doesn't notice it.
"Okay... deal."
'Ha... This will be easy. Ellena was already used to Amber's ability, so she'll be able to come up with a way to dodge sensitive topics. But... we can't be complacent since we don't know how much potential he has already reached.'
"So, first, what's your name?"
"I am Noelle." Ellena casually said.
However, Yskaen laughed. "Did you just mishear me? Tell me your name."
"I am Noelle," Ellena repeated. However, at this time, he felt something wrong. It feels like what she said was getting less of a lie.
'Weird.' he thought.
"So... If you say so, Ellena," Yskaen said with an intriguing tone as if catching Ellena's guard. However, Ellena was expecting it, thus, she did not react.
'So bold.' Yskaen thought as Ellena didn't show any expression of surprise.
"You're good. Then, my next question is, what do you think their reason for targeting you?"
Ellena remained silent for a second with depressed eyes. When Yskaen saw that it was sincere, he didn't react and just let her take her time.
And after a moment, Ellena finally spoke. "I don't really know. They just suddenly appeared. On my first day at the test, some ambusher tried to kill me, but fortunately, I killed him first."
"You seem to be not lying."
"Because I'm not lying." Ellena was irritated in her retort.
"I get it. So my next question is, how did you kill him? You must be talented." He asked with his eyes squinting in anticipation.
"Because I have a talent," Ellena said as if overconfident but the result of Yskaen's ability was 100% accurately not lying.. Which made him astonished inwardly.
