Chapter 33
“Can you tell me what kind of meals you ate at that time?”
Jeffrey and Logan might not have been aware of this, but chefs experience the greatest difficulty when someone in the family reaches adulthood.
A nobleman at that age was required to eat a lot in order to prepare for the Imperial Knights qualification exam.
If the chef did not pay attention to the meals served to the masters, the chef could be held responsible for their Master’s failure to pass the exam.
‘The chef must consider nutritional value and the appropriate portions.’
According to her information, Jeffrey and Logan’s chefs weren’t ordinary either. Both chefs had served the family for generations. Aside from their cooking expertise, their chefs were also well-versed in the family’s health and status.
It wasn’t easy for them to reveal such information, but Logan and Jeffrey had promised to help Carlyx with anything.
No, they had no choice but to answer. Their lives depended on the Zistanter Knightly Order, after all.
“From now on, I will provide meals for the knights. Even if it’s not possible to do it everyday, I will do it frequently ….”
Logan and Jeffrey straightened their backs as they listened to Daisy carefully.
“I’ve only discussed this much with Carlyx, but if you could describe your daily meals, I’ll try to provide you meals during a ceasefire as well.”
“Wow! Are you really going to do that? I’m not against the idea, but I don’t think it’s a normal thing to do. You’re just going to wear yourself out for nothing!”
“Fighting on the frontline should not be something trivial. In order to survive, you should take care of your body by eating plentiful, nutritious meals.”
“I agree with you. On the battlefield, one small difference could kill or save us.”
Jeffrey’s eyes lit up at Daisy’s words. He didn’t expect that kind of insight from her. This time, Jeffrey couldn’t hide his amazement.
“I will also put the doctors on duty before and during the war and during the training as well.”
“Wow. Will the doctor be there when I have my personal training, though?”
Logan covered his mouth and furrowed his brows playfully. Daisy chuckled at his playfulness and uttered firmly.
“That much should be expected. Because no matter how much people look down upon the Zistanter Knightly Order, they are still the best knights in the Avarelvan Empire!”
It wasn’t just lip service.
No one could deny the difference between a noble and a commoner. Commoners had to undergo fierce competition to become a knight compared to that of a noble. They must fight harder to survive the rough journey.
“I believe they can grow even more with sufficient support. That’s why I will do my best to prepare everything. I plan to hire more chef’s assistants exclusively for the knights.”
Daisy glanced at the chef. Her eyes glistened as if warning him.
If you’re doing your job poorly, someone’s life could be in danger.
The chef gulped, he could read her meaning.
‘You purposely called me so I can listen to everything, didn’t you?!’
She could’ve called him separately, but she didn’t. A chill swept down the chef’s spine in an instant.
“Yes, If the Viscount and Count can provide details, I’ll do my best to prepare meals that’ll satisfy you.” the chef said.
He straightened his back and took the note out of his pocket. It was the fastest he ever wrote during his entire time working in the family.
While the chef was busy talking with Jeffrey and Logan, a familiar face walked out of the darkness.
It was Carlyx.
‘That cold expression again.’
It wasn’t an extremely scary face, but it was clear that he wanted to give a warning.
‘When can I see you smile?’
Daisy quickly brushed off that idea. It was impossible to see him smile.
‘No. If there’s River and Luciana, there may be a little possibility.’
“Oh, Commander. You came.”
“You should’ve said hello first. Why are you creeping in like a ghost? How scary!”
“I don’t think there’s ever been a time when you’re scared of me!”
“You’ve got a point.”
At Logan’s words, Carlyx waved his hand once. It was a gesture to continue what they were doing.
“Daisy.”
Carlyx stood right behind Daisy and put his hand on the edge of the sofa.
He was actually a little surprised.
Even after listening to Logan and Jeffrey’s conversation a little, he could already tell what they were talking about.
She knew about the relationship between the Imperial Family and the Knights of Zistanter very well. However, this situation was quite uncomfortable for him.
“The bet is not over yet. What are you doing?”
It was a small voice that only Daisy could hear. A voice that coldly threatened her to stop what she was doing.
Daisy calmly put down the empty cup.
“I was having fun talking with Logan and Jeffrey.”
Daisy raised the corner of her mouth. He could see how Logan and Jeffrey were having a friendly conversation with her before.
“Aren’t we still making a bet to change the system?”
“What if it has nothing to do with our bet?”
“What do you mean?”
Daisy turned her head. Thick eyebrows, clear eyes, and straight lips. That was his expression.
“It is my duty to support the knights as the Madam of this family, even without necessarily changing the system. Without having to give them a special prize or additional class. I’m treating them equally.”
Daisy reached out her hand and swept his chin as if stroking a cat.
It wasn’t that she was no longer scared, but her urge for revenge was greater than that.
Feeling uncomfortable, Carlyx wrinkled his forehead.
“I’m protecting the equality that you valued so much.”
Daisy stroked his chin a few more times. His left hand was half raised, but he slowed down and stopped. When he finally shot a glare of warning at her, she eventually lowered her hand.
“You’re here to eat, right? I prepared your favorite beef, so sit down and eat.”
Her voice was sweet and her gaze did not lose its warmth.
“Let’s eat. Luciana and River will come after this.”
Carlyx immediately moved away from Daisy.
The chef prepared the meals so impeccably that she wondered if he was the same chef as before.
Tyler approached Daisy and spoke politely in a small voice.
“Madam, my little Lady and Young Master are almost ready. Are you sure that only me is enough to serve everyone today? I’m a little worried that Count Rifai and Viscount Ashin might be offended.”
Since there were many guests, two more servants had to serve and attend to them. She knew that, but Daisy shook her head and said.
“I already asked for their understanding, so they’ll let it slide today. I will have to trouble you a lot until the new servants start work. I’m sorry, Tyler.”
“It’s nothing, Madam. I work with confidence every day thanks to your grace and trust.”
Tyler hadn’t had a hard time lately. Rather, he was happy that his work could be so rewarding.
“Uncle Logan!”
“Yup! Uncle Logan is here!”
It was River and Luciana. River was walking on crutches and wore his usual messenger bag that did not match his fancy clothes. In the past, he didn’t wear it during a meal, but recently he wore it anywhere he went.
Carlyx entered with him and seemed to have given up trying to persuade River. Meanwhile, River hobbled toward Logan excitedly, but Luciana was at a loss as to what to do.
“Father, River wanted to say hello.”
“Ahem ahem! River! Long time no see! It’s been so long since Uncle Logan came here, right?”
“Yeah!”
Logan smirked as he looked at Carlyx.
Don’t you see your kid run towards me first, huh?
“But I’m not River! I’m Ravi!”
Ravi? Logan took the crutches and, laying them down, lifted River.
“Do you still have that name? You became Ravi two years ago, right?”
Logan spun him around. River flailed his small hands as he giggled gleefully.
“Higher! Go up high! Ravi is so tall! Hehehe I can fly around the world! Freely!”
Daisy linked her arm with Carlyx’s. She smiled brightly despite Carlyx’s piercing gaze. There were people around them, so she was not scared at all.
Daisy suddenly nodded her chin toward Logan.
“You should do it like Sir Logan.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Remember that. That’s one of the best dad skills.”
At Daisy’s observation, his eyes moved to River. The child was laughing so much that his cheeks puffed up.
“Wow. That’s dangerous….”
Luciana mumbled quietly as she watched River.
River is going to fall.
While contemplating intensely, she actually said,
“It’s dangerous, but it looks amazing.”
“Ahem! Ahem!”
Jeffrey approached Luciana and coughed. Luciana was startled and turned her head to him. Jeffrey was awkward, but he didn’t avoid her gaze and opened his arms wide.
“I can do it for you if you would like.”
At Jeffrey’s words, Luciana alternated looking between him and Daisy. Her small hand grabbed Daisy’s dress tightly.
“Auntie, is that okay for me to do that?”
Daisy nodded quickly at her timid appearance.
“Yup! Go ahead and let fly!”
