8 Chapter 8 A Sock?

Going to the [Lottery] menu, he sees a wheel along with a button. The wheel appears to be blank but knowing the system, Jake knows it's much more than what it appears.

[Host, the Lottery system only works when you have Lottery tickets. You press the button and then spin the wheel. Whatever it lands on, is what you will receive.]

With that, Jake pressed the button....

~~~~~~~~~
Jake waited for a minute but nothing happened. Well, not immediately.
After what felt like forever, the wheel began to change. Several lines began to appear on the wheel. Eight equally spaced areas are formed on the face of the wheel and then words appeared.
[Super Points, Junk, Consumables, Skills (Active), Skills (Passive), Chest (Uncommon Equipment), Chest (Rare equipment), and Chest (mysterious).
These are the options that the system has decided are best usable for the host's ability level.
The system takes into factor several things such as experience with your powers, equipment already owned, level, and Skills owned.]
Jake understood that he was weak, but he knew that if he could even become a tenth of Superman's strength in the comics, he would become someone with some extreme power, just that it would take time.
He grabs the wheel with a mental hand and takes in a deep breath. Exhaling it, he spins it. Praying to any and all gods/goddesses that might be interested, he asked over and over for the same thing.
"Please don't give me Junk. Anything but Junk."
The wheel began to slow down but Jake was looking at the possible options that it might land on but then he saw it slowing down to approach Junk.
Skills (Passive)...
Chest (Uncommon Equipment)...
Junk....
As the wheel passed through the Skills, it slowly passes through Junk and lands on [Chest (Mysterious)].
[Congratulations host! You have been awarded the Skill [Flight].
Flight (Level 1, 0%) - Allows the user the ability to fly through the air.
At the beginning stages, this ability is pretty much useless as you can only levitate at a maximum height of 10 meters and glide from higher areas, but, this ability, much like all of the host's abilities, have no level cap, can evolve in the path that the host wants, and will have unlimited growth potential.]
"So what you are saying is that all of my skills can become ridiculously powerful?" Jake asks as he recalls certain comic book Superman.
[Host is correct. Take [Super Strength] for example. Superman was able to lift buildings and mountains due to his conscious will. His strength is more an act of conscious will on energy fields than actual physical strength. It is this act of conscious will that enables him to perform physical feats that are beyond the mere application force, such as moving a mountain top without said rock crumbling under its own mass.
One day, your abilities will allow you to do the same.]
In an undisclosed area....
"This can't keep going on like this! I don't want to hear any more excuses from your scientists or researchers. The whole operation was one big fuck up!" Shouted one man with four stars on his shoulders.
A young man in a suit stands up and says to him, "Calm down General. It is already in the past. What we have to do now is find out what the future has in store for us. For our world. These meteorites fell in every major city, all over the world, and the genetic alterations that it has granted are vast.
Take these examples. Erick Edwardson. Age 22. Lives in Cornwall, England. He has shown that his ability is Fire Manipulation."
He then points towards a screen that shows a mechanic shop where a man is wielding a blow torch when the meteorite struck outside of his shop. There is no sound but the footage is very clear. The man drops the blow torch and grabs his head, clearly in pain as he screams before passing out.
"This was when The Fall occurred. Next is when the abilities manifested." The screen then changes to the man walking the street three days later. He was just walking but he didn't even seem to notice that his shoes were burning a centimeter into the pavement that he was walking on. The scene switches to another scene where he runs into an alleyway, panicking. The people in the room watching what was happening on the screen all gasped as they saw something incredibly shocking.
The man ran into the alleyway while he was entirely on fire. After several seconds, the man seemed to realize that the fire wasn't hurting him at all and he began to control it until the only thing burning was just his hand. Then he made it so the fire became a ball floating above his hand. He smiles and waves his hand watching the flame move with his hand. Erick then laughs before putting his arm forwards and sends the ball of fire towards a trashcan. The small tennis ball sized fire ball then flew slowly towards the trashcan only to easily fly straight through it and hit the ground.
The footage ends there.
The same young man in the nice suit draws the other's attention and says, "There are many more out there and in the packets you all received, contains all the information that we recently have on some of the people we have in our records."
One of the world leaders in the room, opens the manila envelope and scans through it, looking at the different abilities. He stops on one of them and after reading the information, he then asks, "This young man. His abilities say speed and unknown defensive ability. So we have confirmed that the abilities that those affected by the meteorites are not just elemental but physical?"
The man in the suit, looks at the man who asked the question and smiled, "We have confirmed that the abilities given are infinite."
~~~~~~~~~~

Jake, who is oblivious to the fact that he is on a list of names of those that have special abilities, has used his last lottery ticket. The system seemed to be laughing at him, irregardless of his prayers and he landed on [Junk].

[Congratulation host! You are now the proud owner of 1 dirty sock.]

"Fuck you system!!!"
