Chapter 21 Catching A Mermaid?
“I can finally see the sea!”
Guo Li muttered to himself excitedly. He glanced at the endless coastline and felt extremely proud. Such a long coastline was all his.
Guo Li secretly swore in his heart that he would develop his small island well and turn it into the most prosperous and beautiful island in the game world.
Guo Li was a little thirsty, so he asked Wukong to pick a coconut from a tree. He cracked open the fresh coconut and held it up. He then poured the coconut juice into his mouth and gulped it down quickly.
The clear and sweet coconut juice had a faint milky fragrance. After one giant gulp, Guo Li’s tiredness from all the traveling evaporated.
“It’s so comfortable. Everything is pure and natural and there’s no pollution here. This place is truly paradise on Earth.”
Guo Li casually threw the coconut shell on the ground. It would not cause environmental pollution because there was no harmful household garbage around here. Everything was pure and natural.
Taking off his shoes, he tied the two shoes together with the shoelaces and hung them around Wu Kong’s neck. Guo Li rolled up his pants and stepped onto the beach barefoot. He walked forward slowly and, probably because of his occupational disease, Guo Li walked around looking for a good place to fish.
The beach was not suitable for fishing because the water near the coast was shallow. There were no big fish near the shallow beach. Even if he caught anything it would be too small and meaningless.
No longer thinking about fishing, Guo Li rushed into the sea and enjoyed the comfort of the slightly cool water. He could not help himself, and took off all his clothes, leaving only his underpants, and started swimming in the sea.
Guo Li could share the sea snakes’ vision, so he did not need to worry about sharks attacking him in the sea. The saltwater crocodile was still swimming beside Guo Li as well, constantly on alert.
Wukong was very timid. It did not dare to enter the sea at all. When it saw the water, it briefly touched the water to test it out, and then turned around and ran back to the beach.
After playing in the sea for more than an hour, Guo Li returned to shore. There was a small stream of fresh water nearby, which should have originated from the river near Guo Li’s base camp. Guo Li washed off the seawater and got ready to start fishing.
The island was extremely beautiful, to the extent that nobody would even want to leave once they set foot here. Guo Li rode atop the saltwater crocodile and asked it to look for a spot with reefs. It would be more convenient to fish there.
At the same time, he instructed Wukong to catch some shellfish and small crabs as bait for fishing
The remaining bait from yesterday could not be used today because the seafood would go bad and stink after a few hours.
After advancing toward the south for more than an hour, the sound of the waves gradually became louder. The reefs that protruded out of the sea were right there. This was the best place to fish.
There were many small pools on the reefs. There were also many seafood that had not managed to escape to the sea in time because the tide had receded.
There was an octopus hiding in the crevice of the reef, a moray eel trapped in a pool waiting for the tide to rise, and a few large crabs.
Guo Li did not pay any attention to these for the time being because, in a while, these small pools would become his ‘prisons’ to ‘lock up’ his spoils of war. These creatures that were hiding here had also become part of Guo Li’s personal possessions.
“Big Baby, collect some seawater and pour it into these pools.”
“Yes, Master.”
Wukong also soon returned with some shellfish and small crabs. It sensed that it would be able to eat delicious roasted fish soon. Wukong appeared to be very excited, and its expression belied the impatience it felt.
Guo Li hung the peeled scallop meat on the hook and got down to business. He waited patiently. Guo Li’s fishing skills were improving as each day passed. With the toughness of the stone fishing rod, there was no fish that he needed to fear.
He soon got his first bite. Guo Li suddenly lifted the fishing rod and swung it from left to right, following the fish’s movements. The fish in the sea had a lot of strength, so he had to exhaust it before he could pull it up bit by
bit.
With a mighty pull, he fished out a large grouper that weighed more than three catties. It kept struggling and flapping its fins about.
Guo Li was overjoyed when he saw the large grouper. Grouper meat was the most delicious. It was best cooked in a hotpot.
The crisp and refreshing fish meat would be sliced into small pieces. Each piece was crystal clear. There was no need to marinate it. It was directly dipped in the boiling water and rolled around for a few seconds. The fish meat would cook rapidly. The fish meat had to be immediately dipped into a simple sauce and consumed right there and then. It would taste really fresh, sweet, and refreshing.
He picked up the grouper and handed it over to Big Baby to place in one of the pools. He told him to watch the fish carefully and not let it escape. Guo Li then resumed fishing. Soon, a second fish took the bait; then a third fish; and then a fourth fish. Guo Li scratched his head in confusion. He had been fishing here for more than half an hour. Logically speaking, the resources in the sea were more abundant, so the chances of catching a treasure chest should have been higher. Yet, try as he might, no treasure chest came out of the water.
As he continued to patiently fish, he suddenly felt a strong tug on the line. Guo Li immediately tightened his grip on the fishing rod. This thing was heavy! It kept moving along with the current too!
Just as Guo Li was wondering what he caught, a human-shaped figure appeared before him. It was wearing a dress that was soaked in seawater, and was not moving at all. Guo Li quickly reeled it in.
“Big Baby, quickly pull her up!”
This was the first time Guo Li had seen a member of the opposite sex in the game world, so he felt a little awkward. Together with Big Baby, they managed to pull her onto the reef.
Guo Li quickly checked her pulse. Her condition did not seem to be good. Her pulse was weak because she had taken in a lot of water. Furthermore, she had been in the water for too long, so her life was in danger.
Guo Li had learned first aid before. Looking at the girl’s delicate facial features and fair skin, Guo Li took a deep breath and slowly placed his mouth on the girl’s.
He had to pry open her tightly shut mouth to perform artificial respiration. The moment his lips touched hers, the slight coldness made Guo Li feel as if he had been electrocuted.
He quickly shook off the wild thoughts in his mind and slowly transferred oxygen into the girl’s mouth and lungs. At the same time, he rapidly alternated this with chest compressions.
He took deep breaths and transferred the air into the girl’s mouth. He also continued to perform chest compressions. After repeating this sequence more than ten times, the girl suddenly coughed violently a few times.
A lot of seawater was regurgitated from her mouth. At the same time, she muttered, “Water… water… give me some water…”
Guo Li immediately got Big Baby to pass her some fresh water. He held her waist and leaned her against his body to prevent her from choking on the water. After she drank the water, she slowly laid herself back down in Guo Li’s arms again.
