Chapter 36 - Night, The Arrival Of The Barbarians

Chapter 36 Night, The Arrival Of The Barbarians

Night had descended over the island. Captain Jack enjoyed a moment of peace. The wind blew strongly over the island at night, turning his hair into a mess.

The coffee in the cup had run dry. Jack poured more hot water into the cup and carefully brewed the coffee residue again. He drank it and closed his eyes in enjoyment.

On the quiet island, there was only the sound of the wind and the crackling noises of the bonfire. The sailors were all sleeping very soundly.

In the depths of the island, the occasional howl of wild beasts could be heard. Jack would occasionally turn his head to look around. Seeing that there was no danger, he turned to look in the direction of the sea again.

It was pitch black at night, and Jack turnedto look at the sea in the distance in a daze. No one knew what he was thinking about. Suddenly, fires appeared over the horizon of the sea in the distance.

The fires slowly approached. Jack slowly squatted down and picked up a knife on the ground and a horn.

The fires in the distance were getting closer and closer. Jack finally saw clearly that the fires originated from two small assault boats. On them sat a few barbarians wearing grass skirts, whose faces were painted with oil!

Subconsciously, Jack immediately extinguished the bonfire in front of him so that the other party would not notice them.

“Not good! It’s the Barbarians!”

Acting without hesitation, Jack immediately blew the horn. The heavy sound of the horn spread far and wide on the quiet island.

The sailors and Guo Li who were still sleeping immediately woke up. Jack shouted, “The barbarians are attacking! Everyone, get ready for battle!”

When everyone heard that barbarians were attacking, they were all jolted from their sleepy state. When Cai Er heard that it was the barbarians, she was so scared that she curled up in Guo Li’s arms, shivering.

Guo Li told Cai Er to stay in the tent. He put on his clothes and rushed out. At this time, the two assault boats had already reached the shore. The barbarians were about to land on the island.

Because the barbarians had landed quite far away, they did not notice Guo Li and the others. When Guo Li came out of the tent and saw the barbarians landing on the island and their torches in the distance, he did not act rashly.

Guo Li held the elemental crossbow in his hand. If the barbarians dared to attack them, Guo Li would not hesitate to activate the Elemental Magic Crossbow. The terrifying elemental power would instantly kill all of these barbarians.

Seeing that the barbarians had no intention to attack, Guo Li heaved a sigh of relief. He turned to look at the sailors and warned them in a low voice not to act rashly.

After the barbarians landed, they lit a bonfire on the island and danced around the bonfire, saying something that Guo Li and the others did not understand.

“Master, these barbarians seem to be performing some kind of sacrificial ceremony.”

Jack’s words made Guo Li nod his head. These barbarians were indeed performing some kind of sacrificial ceremony. Guo Li had the universal beast language ability, so he tried to listen in. He was surprised to find that he could actually understand the language that these barbarians were speaking.

They were indeed performing some kind of sacrificial ritual. There were some strange syllables and noises that Guo Li could not understand. He could only roughly guess a portion of what they were saying.

Guo Li saw that the barbarians were not a threat. It seemed that the other party had also discovered their existence and wanted to approach them.

Guo Li held the elemental magic crossbow in his hand and prepared to negotiate. Once the other party showed any intention of attacking them, he would not hesitate to activate the elemental magic crossbow that could instantly freeze the surface of the sea. Given that it could defeat the great white shark easily, killing these barbarians would be even easier.

When Jack saw Guo Li go up to negotiate with the barbarians, he hurriedly said, “Master, these barbarians feed on raw meat and blood. They might even eat people. It’s dangerous to approach them.”

Guo Li patted Jack’s arm and said, “Nothing will happen. It’s just a simple negotiation. Moreover, these barbarians don’t seem to be hostile to us.”

Guo Li slowly walked up and greeted them in the language of the barbarians, “Good friends, I’m an adventurer who came here to explore.”

Guo Li’s words made the dancing barbarians stop. They did not say anything. After a while, a tall barbarian walked out from the group. His eyes were not fierce, only a little confused, it was as if he had never seen a human dressed like Guo Li before.

The barbarian started to talk to Guo Li. He said that he had never seen a human dressed like Guo Li before. He was very welcoming and enthusiastic about interacting with Guo Li.

The enthusiastic barbarian made Guo Li gradually let down his guard. Both sides began to talk happily. He was not a person who liked to fight, so it was best to have a friendly dialogue.

The barbarian introduced himself as the chief of this tribe. He had come to this small island to carry out a sacrificial ceremony that had been passed down through his tribe for hundreds of years. Moreover, he started bringing out a lot of animals from the assault boats and slaughtered them on the spot. All of these became delicious food as they were roasted over the bonfire.

Guo Li carefully observed the actions of the barbarians. He was puzzled to find that, when the barbarians saw the carcasses of the animals being cut open, they seemed very excited. They even wanted to rush up and feast on them.

This feeling made them seem more like wild beasts. Thinking this, Guo Li figured that these barbarians normally ate raw meat. As for why they cooked these wild beasts… this was probably due to the fact that they had outsiders around and probably did not want to appear too barbaric.

The chief kept signaling with his eyes to remind the barbarians not to eat the raw carcasses of the wild beasts.

Thinking this, Guo Li thought of a few possibilities. These barbarians must have come into contact with normal people in the game world.

Otherwise, they would not have known that normal people ate cooked food.

Could it be that what they showed him just now was done just to confuse him?!

Guo Li could not help but break out into cold sweat. If this was the case, these barbarians might have some unspeakable secrets that they were hiding.

Guo Li immediately whispered to Jack and the others, “Don’t eat their food. These barbarians look a bit strange.”

Everyone was on guard and became much more cautious.

At this time, the barbarian chief brought the cooked food to Guo Li and the others and invited them to taste the delicacies of their tribe.

Guo Li and the others were cautious and only said that they had already eaten dinner. They politely declined the chief’s hospitality.

When the chief saw that Guo Li and the others did not eat the food he gave them, on the surface, he was not angry. However, when he turned around and left, his eyes gradually turned vicious, though Guo Li and the others did not see this.
