Chapter 80: Faultless Alibi
“She must have noticed someone’s watching her.” Kyle Leonard switched the recorder off, his expression incomparably fierce.
Park Noah asked, loosening the strings of her cape that was tightly knotted around her neck. “Didn’t you say that the capital was monitoring Lenia? Lenia obviously got on the train to Tezeba the day you came down to Sorrent. Of course, she should be in the capital by now, but how is she in Battuanu?”
“Lenia Valtalere is in the capital.”
“Yeah? But we just…”
“I confirmed yesterday morning that the magistrate of the first district of Tezeba secretly identified and reported Lenia Valtalere. She says she’s been staying at least five days at the Valtalere mansion.” Kyle Leonard insisted.
Yet it did not make sense to Park Noah. She frowned and asked again. “How can that be? So who is the woman in the hallway now? Lenia is the only daughter of Count Valtalere. As far as I know, there are no other daughters.”
“…It is true that Count Valtalere has only one child, Lenia Valtalere, who he would call her ‘daughter’.”
“But… this situation doesn’t make any sense.”
One person cannot exist in two places more than five hundred kilometers away at the same time. If so, it meant one was a fake.
“Was it Lenia in Tezeba?” Park Noah confirmed.
“That’s according to my reports. I heard they infiltrated the Valtalere mansion and even checked Lenia Valtalere’s face. I didn’t see it myself, so I’m sure it’ll be less reliable. So far, what you and my own eyes have confirmed is that a woman believed to be Lenia Valtalere has been to Sorrent. And that she’s on this ship with us now.”
“And she knew we were looking at him.” She added.
Was it simply a mistake that the bead rolled away? But the woman’s shoe hit the bead so precisely. Park Noah sighed and dabbed the beads first. The blue screen flickered out. Meanwhile, Kyle Leonard placed his pocketbook on the side table and beckoned her. Park Noah roughly threw her cape on the floor.
“Please put it back on the right hook.”
Of course, cleanliness remained the first priority in every situation! However, Park Noah thought it would be less tiresome to listen to him than to rebel, so she hung her cape on the hanger without complaint and sat beside him.
Kyle Leonard was already writing something in his journal. When she looked closely, it was a timeline.
580.04.17: The disappearance of the egg.
L to Sorrent with eggs. (Estimated)
580.04.20: N, found the dragon egg. (L, possibly have been looking)
K, dispatched to Sorrent.
“What is K?” Park Noah interrupted.
“It’s me. Kyle. L is Lennia, N is Miss Noah. A is Minister Adrian Rossinell.”
580.04.24: K, Sorrent arrival. L, to Tezeba. (Estimated)
580.05.02: N, K to Tezeba.
A train terrorist attack on Edman’s train by Yulem.
Lunazel, Edman railroad network paralysis.
N, to Battuanu with A.
580.05.03: N, A arrives in Batuannu.
Cezanne and Tauren regional railroad network paralysis.
580.05.04: Paralysis of the entire local railroad network.
580.05.08: N, K ferryboarding to Tezeba.
L, ferryboarding to Tezeba.
Kyle Leonard explained slowly, pointing to his well-organized list of events for the past three weeks. “Based on the assumption that the dragon’s egg thief was Lenia Valtalere, there are about fifteen days from the 24th of last month to the 8th of today, when she left Sorrent. The railway has been paralyzed since the 2nd, so she had plenty of time to go up to the capital.”
“What if she wasn’t actually going straight to the capital.”
“Then there’s only one possibility. Count Valtalere has a farm in Cezanne. Based on the conversation just now, Count Valtalere had been in Cezanne since last year, so it’s no doubt that Lenia Valtalere might have stayed in Cezanne, where her father was.”
“But if I were her, I would have gone up to the capital, so why didn’t she…”
If one dared to infiltrate the Laurent Fortress to steal the dragon’s egg, it was only natural to return to the capital immediately. But if they didn’t, it was either they had a situation where it wasn’t possible to return, or…
While Park Noah racked her brain, thinking over and over, Kyle Leonard wrote another detail in the space between the 4th and 8th of May.
580.05.06: Reported L is staying in her home in Tezeba.
“…Ah.” When she saw the new information, the puzzle pieces seemed to take form. They wouldn’t have to return to the capital immediately, given that they already have a perfect alibi under their sleeves.
