Chapter 39: Trapped

Meanwhile, in a very dark place with all sorts of eerie vermin and creatures roaming about, there was a boy tied to a large stone with some web-like strings, apparently made out of grey-colored saliva.

The boy was unconscious, and his legs were bloodied and in pretty bad shape to the point, it could make people wonder if he could even use his legs anymore.

However, only those who knew him would know that his legs were already disabled, and it wouldn't make much difference to him.

Still, since those legs were a part of his body, the blood loss had left him in a pretty bad shape internally.

The only reason his chest was moving up and down to breathe was that he was unconsciously holding on to every last bit of his will to stay alive.

However, he had no idea that a strange venom was flowing through his blood to keep him from dying.

*Kreee* *Kree*

A couple of Dreadlings from before, the Jawfiends were crawling about the whole place, circling around Arion as if they were waiting for something or someone.

"Ughh…" Arion stirred awake after some time but felt sluggish and fatigued throughout his body.

He strangely wasn't feeling any pain and blinked a few times to clear his blurry vision.

However, his vision was very dark except for a faint pink light illuminating the place he was in. He saw that those pink lights were coming from some strange pink crystals embedded on the walls.

However, right now, he wasn't in the state to overthink about it.

"Oh no…" His heart raced when he came out of his confused state and remembered what happened just before he lost consciousness.

He was bitten in the legs by a pair of Dreadlings and dragged away underground.

*Kreee* *Kree*

The screeches of the Dreadlings made his heart almost jump out as he remembered the terrifying experience he had before and took a good look around to see where he was, why he was stuck in some sticky cocoon-like thing and how many Dreadlings were surrounding him.

To his shock, he spotted dozens of Jawfiends crawling about without paying any mind to him. These were only the ones near him since he wasn't able to see what was farther away due to how dark it was.

'Is this an underground cave or something…Haa...why did I even try to play the hero...it's not like me at all...' Arion tried his best to calm down and think things through.

At least for now, he was glad that he was still alive, no matter how astonishing it seemed. But then again, seeing the Jawfiends around him, he wondered if being alive was indeed a good thing.

However, that did not mean he stopped thinking of a way to escape. He didn't care why he was alive or why the Jawfiends didn't kill him.

All he knew was that he had to get out before he ended up as food for these flesh eaters.

But his body was tightly fastened to the sturdy stone that he felt as if he would lose his consciousness again if he exerted too much strength.

The grey webbing around his body was so strong and tensile that he felt as if he would cut his own body if he struggled anymore after feeling stinging pain on his skin.

But he then noticed that the Jawfiends were suddenly moving towards someplace else, leaving him all alone.

He couldn't see where they all were hurrying towards except that they were screeching at something while disappearing into the darkness.

Arion couldn't be happier as he suddenly felt as if he could take in a good deep breath and think more calmly.

But suddenly, he felt a tingling sensation below his waist, making him wonder if it was an illusion or a trick his mind was playing on him.

However, he felt that tingling sensation again. This time, he confirmed that it was indeed from below his waist, including his legs!

Even if he could barely see, he was able to clearly feel the familiar feeling of wiggling his toes which was proof that he was able to finally move his legs!

"This can't be...is this a dream…" Arion mumbled to himself in disbelief and almost teared up in happiness as he began to gain more control over his stiff legs.

His legs would have been atrophied if it was not for Mei constantly massaging his body daily and making him do upper body exercises.

And right now, all the things Mei did finally paid off; otherwise, Arion wouldn't have been able to move his legs this easily.

After a lot of tries, he was finally able to lift one of his legs slowly, making him feel even more elated.

He smiled wryly, seeing that his lifelong dream of being able to walk was finally coming true but at such an inopportune time.

But he suppressed his excitement and happiness since now was not the right time to rejoice. In fact, his situation of being trapped and held hostage by these frightening monsters hadn't changed.

However, Arion's brows wrinkled when he suddenly remembered that his legs were supposed to be severely injured.

But then how was he able to move them without any problems nor feel any pain?

A confused Arion tried to bring his legs forward so he could inspect them clearly. Since only his upper body was strapped, he had no problems moving his legs.

He also noticed that he was no longer feeling the same level of sluggishness and fatigue as before. It was as if he was magically getting more energy in his body as time passed.

He somehow was able to bring both his legs forward and saw that his legs looked horrendous because of the dried blood.

But upon closer inspection under the dim pink light, his eyes widened as he mumbled in a flummoxed tone, "No injuries??"
