Once upon a time, there was a kingdom in a faraway land. The Crown Prince at the time fell in love with a commoner but the King and Queen did not approve of this relationship. He decided to run away to live with his love and the two of them had two wonderful children.
The title of "Crown Prince" got moved to the Prince's brother. But suddenly one day, a fortune-teller came to visit the King and Queen. The Fortune Teller told the two that disaster will be brought upon the kingdom the moment they pass, only the rightful heir can prevent this. Hearing this, they only laughed stating that they do not need to worry since they still have their prince. It was only the Crown Prince who felt threatened by his older brother.
The previous crown prince had already established a small magic business because his wife was actually a Magician who specialized in potions rather than spells like the norm. But this meant that commoners had better access to magic given it was exclusive for nobles and royalty only.
The Crown Prince thought that his older brother was planning something with this and decided to send a dark magician to get rid of the previous crown prince. His wife had learned of this and the two tried to hide their children in a hidden tower that used to be her hideaway. The Wife told her son who was the eldest the truth of his father's origins. She gave him his father's brooch that would prove his right as the rightful heir to the throne for when the time comes.
"I'll take care of Alice" Gideon cried as his mother kissed the two children goodbye.
Alice thought that her mother would only be gone for a few days but Gideon knew that she will no longer return. It was hard to accept but he needed to be strong for his little sister.
Years had already passed and they already grew accustomed to living in that tower. Gideon would often leave the tower to go to the nearby town and sell the medicine that he and his sister would make. If their Mother knew that Alice had inherited her skills in potion making and could even perform basic magic spells, she would be the proudest mother out there. Gideon sadly only knew how to make medicine since he had a magical affinity in him for some reason.
When he returned to the tower, he did not find Alice anywhere and thus he panicked. He had even dropped the basket of food he had brought for the two of them as he ran out looking for her. He was worried that she would get attacked by monsters given they were deep in the magical forest. After running for a while, he saw there were several footprints left behind. He thought it was his sister's and decided to follow it.
Following the footprints, he went deeper into the magical forest. He found himself in the outskirts of an "abandoned" castle. He never heard of a castle in the Magical forest, let alone see this while he was following the footprints. It's as if this castle just popped up out of nowhere.
"Alice?" He called out looking around outside the castle.
Maybe she's inside?
The door was open but there was no one there. He continued to call out for his sister until he heard a door slam. Gideon jumped in surprise and looked behind him. There was a person well... it looked like a person at first but Gideon saw that this person looked like a monster. It had a long tail, claws, and horns. Maybe it even had a horrifying face given it used a mask to cover it up.
"Who are you?! why are you in here? Were you the one who stole the pendant?!" The monster spoke and Gideon gulped in fear.
"No! I am just trying to look for my sister"
"Do you think I'm a fool?"
"No, I'm telling the truth"
Gideon tries to explain but he was already grabbed by the wrist. He was dragged into a dungeon despite trying to explain multiple times that he was looking for his sister. The monster muttered something along the lines of "These humans keep coming in and out like they own the place". Gideon was upset, he had no idea what rose that monster was talking about.
A day or two already passed and Gideon was already starving. The Monster that locked him in there didn't even give him any food or water. He was only living off the remaining water and snacks he had on him. In the silence of the night, with only the light of the moon to illuminate his prison cell, someone called out to him.
"Psst! Hey Human" a tiny voice called out.
Gideon looked around and did not see anyone else but suddenly a shadow-like person appeared from the darkness. He made a little wave and it spooked Gideon. Perhaps if this shadow had a face, he would be smiling at how funny the human looked.
"Hello human, I'm Amias"
"What do you want from me?"
"I believe I should be the one asking you the questions" This figure twirled something and it looked like it might have been its hair.
"I'm only looking for my sister"
"You're the only human here and that being said..." It seems like this Amias person remembered something and started to walk away. Gideon clung to the bars and called out to whoever's out there saying that he was only looking for his sister.
Amias however comes back with another person. Unlike him who was only pitch black, this person was similar to the monster that dragged him into this Dungeon. Except this person had pink hair and a different mask.
"Azzy, what do you think?"
"He looks like a commoner. He won't do." this "Azzy" person tells Amias this in a cold manner to which he got replied with a hit on the shoulder but it looks like it didn't even do anything.
"Our time is almost up and you're still being picky?!"
The pink-haired guy stayed silent for a while before a rumble could be heard. Gideon has not eaten for days now.
"Pitiful..." The pink-haired guy muttered sarcastically and Gideon's face had a tint of red due to embarrassment.
"I-I'm not hungry" he tries to say but his stomach betrayed him and had let out another growl.
"Hmm, this won't do" Amias mimicked "Azzy" and twirled his hand to reveal a set of keys.
"Amias!" The man tried to stop Amias from opening the cell but he had already unlocked it.
"We can't let him die now, can we Azazel?" Amias state as he walks up to Gideon and held out his shadowy hand.
The latter hesitated on grabbing it so Amias just went ahead to grab him by the wrist and pulled him up. Amias was taller than Gideon so he had to look up at the area where there's supposed to be a face but there's nothing but pitch darkness.
Amias led Gideon out of the Dungeon and into the kitchen. To their surprise, they were greeted by a man who had a mask that looked like a pig. He was actually surprised to see them that he dropped the food that he had been eating. They were pastries.
"Yohann! What are you doing at this hour..." Azazel began as if he was still trying to think of what to say.
Yohann did not answer but instead took out a tiny notepad and began writing. He then showed them what he had written. The penmanship was elegant as if it was written by a skilled calligrapher. The note stated that he was hungry and did not want to bother his sister so he decided to sneak into the kitchen.
Gideon wanted to ask why Yohann wouldn't speak but did not bother to ask. Thankfully, he had common sense and assumed that Yohann was mute. But it also made him curious about the situation of these people. One had been covering his face with a mask, the other was just pitch darkness, and now this person with a pig mask was not being able to speak.
Azazel continued to scold Yohann and the two would continue exchanging letters on the spot. Amias chuckled and tugged on Gideon's sleeves before handing him a pastry from the cabinet that Yohann had been rummaging through earlier.
"Feel free to eat those for now. Once you're done, you can roam around the halls but don't try to leave or else the young master will know" Amias advises Gideon to which he nodded as he hesitantly takes a bite from the pastry. It was very tasty.
Gideon left the room and looked around and noticed that there were ruined portraits of what looked like a family. Just based on the clothes of the child whose face was ripped off on the portrait, it looks like it was a very wealthy family.
Of course, he was not going to obey what that mysterious being had told him. He needed to find his sister! Gideon found himself in the Castle's Garden. While he was roaming around, he found this one wildflower that his sister had been looking for.
"It's just a little flower and there's tons of it here. I'll just take one" Just as he picked a flower, a voice spoke behind him.
"I knew that you were a petty little thief the moment I saw you"
