"You can talk about this in a civil manner without laying a hand on your very own daughter." Dante snapped angrily.
I felt my heart warm at his gesture to stop my dad from hitting me, no one ever stood up to my father like that and definitely not for my sake, yet Dante did.
"Stay out of this, this is between my daughter and I." My father shouted. "If your father hasn't taught you on how to respect yourself, I've made sure to teach it to my daughter. Yet today she's chosen to embarrass me in the worst way possible. Stay out of this and let me show her what are the consequences of her disgusting, unforgivable actions."
Dante let go of my father's hand but instead moved to stand in front of me, shielding me from my own father. I never once thought I'd live to see a day like this.
"You know Dominic, you've always had a lot of pride and always carried out yourself in a manner as though you were the perfect gentleman and father yet here you are laying a hand on your daughter for everyone to see." Dante pointed out, lowering his voice so that only those close by would be able to hear his words. "Now tell me, is that what you want everyone else to see you as from today onwards, the man who hits women?" He asked.
My father's face paled at his words.
"I thought so, if I were you I would control my emotions. This is already going to be on the headlines tomorrow, anything you do now would only make yourself look worse. Especially in the eyes of those whose opinion matters most to you." Dante added.
"Get out of my way." My father threatened glaring at Dante.
I couldn't let things get any more worse than it already was and so I touched Dante on his shoulder lightly, trying to catch his attention.
He slowly turned to me, something he saw had his eyes hardening as he reached forward and gently cupped my cheek in his hand. The hurt look in his eyes completely surprised me, it was the first time I'd ever seen Dante act like this and it made me think completely differently about him.
"GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY DAUGHTER!" My father roared causing me to jump. This was the worst my father had ever acted in public. The crowd was still silent as everyone looked on.
"Dante please." I begged. "Just go."
