On the day of the audition, Mila woke up early, put on light makeup, and took a taxi to the film company.
After Mila entered, she walked to the front desk and explained she was there to audition. The staff brought her upstairs.
As the second female lead role was more likable, many actors came to audition. The casting director only gave everyone ten minutes to act.
“Miss Sullivan, you can go in now.”
“Thank you.” Mila nodded at the staff, pushed open the door, and walked in.
It was similar to the usual auditions. There were six judges sitting opposite. The director and producer were in the middle, and the rest were the production team’s staff or investors.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Mila Sullivan. I’m 27 years old, and I’m from Big Dipper Entertainment.” Mila gracefully introduced herself and bowed to the six of them.
“Mila Sullivan? I don’t think I’ve heard of her.”
“She’s quite pretty and has a good figure. I’ll talk to her about the show alone later.”
The judges sized up Mila and chatted as if she weren’t there.
Mila stood on the spot and watched this scene quietly. Hearing frivolous remarks about her appearance was already a run-of-the-mill thing. She had seen worse. Some even tried to take advantage of her right away.
“Laila is her agent. Be careful what you say.” The director cleared his throat and reminded the others. When everyone heard Mila was Laila’s actor, they immediately shut up.
The director sized up Mila and said solemnly, “Mila, play the scene where the male lead, Matthew, gets drunk after getting dumped and pretending to be with the second female lead, Lydia. I’ll give you a minute to prepare.”
Mila quickly recalled the plot and took a deep breath. “I’m ready.”
The lights in the room suddenly dimmed, and the spotlights shone on Mila, giving off the atmosphere of a stage play.
Mila wore a black dress and took a few steps forward in her high heels, her gaze landing on the man opposite her.
In order to be fair during the audition, the director arranged for the same actor to stand at the side and act with the actress. The actor read the lines. “Lydia, why are you here?”
“I’m here to see if you’re dead. If you love Brittany so much, why don’t you get her back? Why torture yourself here?”
Mila quickly got into character, her eyes filled with anger and disappointment.
After a few seconds of silence, the man suddenly said, “Lydia, do you still love me? If you do, be my girlfriend.”
Mila was stunned for a moment. There was a flash of pain and a trace of joy in her eyes. In the end, she smiled bitterly.
She knew very well he didn’t love her. He only wanted to be with her because he was angry with Brittany. Although she knew what Matthew wanted, she couldn’t reject him.
“Alright!” Her voice was dry and muffled. The moment she agreed, she felt ridiculous. The dignified eldest daughter of the Lane family was actually willing to be another woman’s substitute.
“Brittany! Did you see that? I don’t need you!” Matthew said drunkenly, not caring about Lydia’s feelings at all.
Matthew fell onto the sofa and gradually fell asleep. Lydia looked at his sleeping face and said calmly, “Matthew, actually, I don’t need you either. I’m just giving myself a reason to give up completely.”
Then, a tear rolled down Lydia’s fair and beautiful face. She smiled, feeling relieved.
“That’ll do.”
The person who said the stop wasn’t the director but the investor’s representative. They had already decided on the role of the second female lead, but Mila’s performance was perfect. Her image and temperament were very compatible with Lydia, the daughter of a rich family who was always true to her feelings. The investor was afraid the director would choose her, so he stopped Mila.
Mila wiped her tears and bowed to everyone. “Thank you all for watching.”
The director nodded. “Alright. Please wait for further notice.”
After Mila left, the director immediately looked at the person beside him unhappily. “Mr. Wang, why didn’t you let her finish?”
“Her acting is only average. Our time is precious, so let’s not waste it on her,” Mr. Wang casually said.
“You call that average? I think she’s Lydia herself!” The director immediately retorted, and the others echoed, “I also think she acted quite well. I’m fascinated by her.”
Mr. Wang looked a little awkward. “I’m going to the bathroom. Excuse me.”
